This guide describes the 9200 meter features that are ordering options—
this edition includes meter operation of the Megawatt option.
9200 Technical Documentation
Comprehensive technical documentation for the 9200 meter is shipped
with the meter and is available online at www.sea.siemens.com/access.
The 9200 Installation and Basic Setup Instructions manual provides
operational details for your 9200 meter, and can be referenced in addition
to this Features Guide.

The Megawatt Option
The Megawatt option displays all power and energy values in millions
(e.g. megawatts) and volts in thousands (kilovolts). The Megawatt option
has a different front panel faceplate than the standard meter, with labels
for kV, MW, MVA, MVAR, MWh, MVAh, and MVARh.
Before You Use the Megawatt Option
In addition to setting up the PT1 and PT2 registers on your Megawatt
option, you must set the PTS (PT Scaling) register to “x1000.” This allows
communications software to correctly interpret megawatt and kilovolt
quantities, and enables meaningful measurements through the meter
front panel.
To learn about meter configuration, refer to the 9200 Installation and Basic
Setup Instructions section “Front Panel Navigation”—”Configuration Mode.”
What Does the PT Scaling (PTS) Setup Register Do?
The PT Scaling setup register provides an additional PT primary register to
accommodate a larger PT ratio. PTS offers a “x1000” quantity for the PT
primary register. (The standard meter model uses the “x1” default scaling.)
How PT Scaling Defines the PT Ratio
Suppose that a meter with the Megawatt option is applied to measure
power on a 500 kV system, the voltage applied to the PT primary is 288
kV, and the expected voltage on the PT secondary is 120 V. The formula
below shows how these values are used with the PT Scaling register set at
“x1000” to define the overall PT ratio.
The formula shows that the meter correctly measures 288.0 kV when PTS
is set to “x1000,” PT1 is set to 288, and PT2 is set to 120.

Basic Setup for the Megawatt Option
Basic setup determines how the meter interprets the power system it is
connected to, as well as how the meter communicates with connected
networks or workstations. You can use the meter front panel or software
to perform basic setup (e.g. PT Primary, PT Secondary, and PT Scaling set
up) on a meter with the Megawatt option.
For parameter configuration through the front panel, the meter must be in
Configuration mode. Refer to “Configuration Mode” in the 9200
Installation and Basic Setup Instructions. For meter setting defaults and
values refer to “Meter Settings” on page 21.
Using configuration software, you can access the networked meter from
your workstation. Refer to “Appendix A: Communications” on page 13.

With the meter front panel, you can view parameter values; configure
parameters; perform demand resets; perform LED checks; and view meter
information. Each of these functions can be accomplished by pressing the
Up, Down, and Enter buttons on the front panel. These button actions
achieve different results according to the mode that the meter is in:
◆Display mode (default): view parameter measurements
◆Reset mode: reset demand measurements
◆Configuration Select/Edit modes: configure a parameter
◆Information mode: verify that the front panel display LEDs operate,
and view meter information, e.g, meter options, firmware version etc.
This section describes how to interpret Display mode values on a meter
with the Megawatt option. Refer to the 9200 Installation and Basic Setup
Instructions to learn about Reset, Configuration, and Information modes.
The Megawatt option displays different values than the standard meter,
but does not differ operationally for these modes.

In Display mode, you can view values from these measurement groups:
System (total), Per Phase, Energy, Demand, and Peak Demand. (This
assumes that you have ordered Enhanced Measurements Package 2. Refer
to “Standard Measurements and Enhanced Packages 1 & 2” on page 20, or the
9200 Options Card Retrofit Instructions for information regarding Options
Cards).
Display Mode Parameter Measurements
The following table lists the parameters in each measurement group:
* Displays system (total) values.
x1000 Indicator
When the “x1000” LED is lit, multiply the displayed value by 1000 for the
actual value.
Viewing Parameter Measurements
The meter defaults to Display mode, and to the System measurements
within this mode. The following graphics illustrate how to interpret
Display mode measurements on a meter with the Megawatt option.
