Introduction 1
1.1 Basic Requirements
This Quick Start is designed to assist you with the installation and operation of the Siemens
Si-Ware software. Si-Ware allows you to interface with any Siemens flowmeter to assess the
condition of your flowmeter installation and to collect data for comparison with prior baseline
data. This Quick Start will cover system requirements as it pertains to the personal computer
(PC) as well as the SITRANS F series ultrasonic transit-time or Reflexor flowmeter, then
move on to software installation and operation.
Si-Ware is designed to work with Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating
systems. This software, developed specifically to interface with Siemens equipment, allows
you to connect your PC to your flowmeter simply and directly. You will find that Si-Ware is
very intuitive and simple to use, making it a useful tool for managing your Siemens ultrasonic
flowmeters.
PC Requirements
1. Operating Systems – Windows 2000 or XP operating systems. Operation on the Windows
98 platform was evaluated successfully using Si-Ware, but we cannot guarantee fault free
communications with this operating system.
2. 30 MB of free hard drive space.
3. Any of the following devices for communication with the flowmeter:
– One serial port (typically used for local communication).
– One Ethernet port (for local or remote communication).
– Modem (for remote communication with suitably equipped flowmeter).
4. An appropriate serial cable if this is the desired mode of communication. See Appendix A
(Page 47) for information on serial communication with flowmeter.
5. Optional port with Windows compatible printer or network printer.
Siemens Flowmeter Requirements
● Must be a SITRANS F 1010 family flowmeter with version 3.01.04E or later operating
system.
● Flowmeter must be installed and actively measuring flow (or zero flow). An uninstalled
flowmeter or inactive site will provide no diagnostic information for Si-Ware to work with.

The Si-Ware program is complex and all the error messages can not be listed here. If an
error message does occur and seems unsolvable, contact your local Siemens office or
regional Ultrasonic Flow Representative and forward the exact error message for expert help
at http://www.automation.siemens.com/partner.

2.1 Si-Ware Installation
The Si-Ware software must be installed on your PC and your PC must be connected to your
flowmeter.
Please perform the following steps to install your Siemens Si-Ware software:
1. Create a suitable folder ("Si-Ware" or desired name) on your PC hard drive.
2. Insert the Si-Ware CD into the appropriate drive.
3. Run the Install program.
Note
Si-Ware .exe program files for the following languages:
English - dv.exe
French - dvfrench.exe
German - dvgerman.exe
Spanish - dvspan.exe
4. If desired, create a short cut and icon for the appropriate .exe file and place it on the
desktop.
5. Double-click on the .exe icon to launch the Si-Ware program.

Note
Refer to Appendix A (Page 47) for the serial cable specifications required for different
SITRANS F flowmeter types.
1. Connect the appropriate serial cable between the flowmeter and free serial port on the
PC. Si-Ware can be set up to use any of the four conventional serial ports COM1 through
COM4. Make sure that there is an available free serial port since the mouse, modem and
other devices of the computer often use these ports.
Note
Many new laptop PCs are not equipped with serial ports and only have USB ports. These
PCs require a USB to RS-232 adaptor that can be purchased commercially.
2. Turn on power to the flowmeter if it is not already powered up.
3. Verify the following RS-232 configuration settings by accessing the [Meter Facilities]
menu. Scroll down to menu item [RS-232 Setup] and press the <Right Arrow>.
4. If different RS-232 settings are preferred for the flowmeter, proceed to Si-Ware
Communications Setup (Page 9) and adjust the Si-Ware communications settings as
required.
