SAFETY
1. ApplypoweronlyafterreviewingthewiringdiagramsforbothyourSmart‐TrakModel100MeterorController,
andtheCompod.SeereverseforCompodwiring,see100SeriesQuickInstallationGuideor100SeriesOperators
Manualforwiringinformation.

INSTALLATION
1. Consulttheinstrument’sDataLabel(onthebackoftheinstrument)forALLproperoperatingparameters.Ifthe
informationontheDataLabeldoesnotmatchyourprocessconditions,contactyourRepresentativeorSierra
InstrumentsCustomerService.InsureyoufollowallSmart‐TrakMetersandControllersinstallation
recommendations.
2. WireyourinstrumentperthediagramedpinoutonthebackofthiscardandintheInstructionManual(specific
wiringisrequiredforboththeSmart‐Trakitself,portP3,aswellastheCompod).Powerisappliedtoboththe
Smart‐TrakandCompodviatheHDDB15connector(P3)onyour100Series,orcanbechainedthroughmultiple
unitsusingtheCompodP1andP2connectors.PleaserefertoyourCompodmanualformoreinformation
regardingtheconvenienceofdaisychaining.

OPERATION
1. Powertheunit.IfyouareusingtheSierraprovidedpowersupply,itisrecommendedyouattachtheD‐sub
connectortotheSmart‐Trakbeforepluggingtheadapterintothewall.Theunitmaytakelongertostartthan
normalifotherwise.Thiswillnotdamagetheunitinanyway.ThegreenLEDabovetheRJ45connectorwilllight
whentheunitpowered.
2. OurMassFlowControllersareshippedwithazerosetpointinAutomaticvalveoperationmode.Forsafety
considerations,itisrecommendedyouconfirmthispriortoapplyinggastotheunit.
3. ApplythegaslistedontheDataLabeltotheinletattherecommendedpressure(listedontheData
Label/CalibrationCertificate).YourSmart‐TrakMeterwillbegintomeasuremassflow.Thiswillbedisplayedon
theusersoftwareoronyourDDCompod.YoucancyclethroughtheDDDisplayoptionsusingthebuttononthe
bottomrightcorneroftheCompod.
4. Controllerswilllikelyneedasetpointinputinordertocontrolflow.Dosocarefully!Youcandigitallyinputa
setpointusingtheRS‐232usersoftwareorviaCompodMODBUS.Youcanstillcontroldirectlywithyouranalog
setpointsourcevia100SeriesHDDB15.NOTE:YoucanchangethesetpointsourcetypeusingtheRS‐232software
ortheincludedCompodUserSoftware(RS‐485GUI).Theunitshipsintheconfigurationinitiallychosen(ordefault
ifnotspecified).ThisinformationisalsolistedontheDataLabelandontheCalibrationCertificate.This
informationisalsoinherentinthemodelcode.SeetheManualfordetails.
5. DONOTleaveasetpointappliedforanextendedperiodoftimetoacontrollerwhenthegassupplyisoffor
blocked.Damagemayresultfromexcessiveheating,andtheunitwillbecomehotenoughtoburnyou.
Alternatively,youcanmaintainyoursetpointvalue,butclosethevalvebyswitchingValveOperationtoClosed
digitallywiththeusersoftwareorthepilotmodule,orwithananaloggroundtotheappropriatepin(seeover).
6. TheCompodUserSoftwareisacompleteGUI(GraphicUserInterface)tosetanduseallCompodfunctions.Ifyou
chosenottousethisprogram,youmayuseabasictrialMODBUSprogramlikeKEPServerEX,whichcanbeusedto
accesstheregistersandmodifyaccordingly.WedonotsupportKEPServerEX.Itcanbeusedforsimple
functionalitytesting.YoumustwriteyourownMODBUSprogramifyouchoosenottousetheCompodUser
Software.



