Handling
Holding NAO by the waist is the best
way to handle the robot and avoid
pinching.
Move NAO’s legs and arms and put the robot in a Crouching or Sitting posture.

You can safely handle the robot without damage when NAO’s motors
are disengaged.

Be careful when picking up NAO: do not place your hands and
fingers near the joints or between the limbs as you could be pinched.
Do not pull NAO by the head, the arms, or the legs, otherwise you
might damage the joints.
NAO’s fingers are fragile, do not pull on them, they might come off.

Forced Turn OFF: If NAO doesn’t turn OFF using the above method, press
and hold the Chest Button for 8 seconds, then NAO will turn OFF instantly.
Be careful and hold the robot as it will disengage its motors.
When using this method you might lose your data.

Interaction Zone

Surroundings
NAO is designed for indoor use
only.
Make sure there is no bright light
or direct sunlight in NAO’s face
to avoid it being distracted.
NAO should be placed
in a quiet zone for best voice
recognition.
Do not operate NAO if non-
condensed humidity is above
80%.
NAO can fall from its own height and get up without damage.
However do not intentionally push NAO over.
Do not expose NAO to dust,
sand, moisture, or excessive
saline atmosphere (e.g. coastal
environment).
Keep NAO away from radiators,
open flames and heat sources.
Put the battery charger
aside so NAO does not
trip over the cables.

The floor should be flat, dry and cleared.
Do not use NAO on a rug or a thick carpet, as it might fall.

Precautions
NAO does not see
where the table ends.
NAO is not a doll.
Do not put any kind of clothing accessory on the robot.
Do not block the sensors and joints.
Do not put makeup or paint on NAO.
Never cover the head, in particular the air vent at the back of the robot’s head.

fragile, do not pull on them.

Use short sentences.
Don’t speak too fast!

To make sure NAO is listening, ensure
NAO is looking at you when you talk.

Notifications
There is a notification if the Chest Button blinks.
Press once
to hear the
spoken message.
A notification is a combined Chest Button LED indication and a spoken
message.
Make sure NAO’s
volume is high enough.

carry out the instructions.

Cleaning
Use a soft dry cloth or cleaning wipes.
Do not use water. Do not get NAO wet and never
handle the robot with wet hands.
Do not use alcohol or ammonia-based products.
Make sure NAO is turned OFF and unplugged.
Do not oil the joints.

Reboxing
2. Remove the battery. Do not place it in the box.
Use NAO’s box for best protection during
storage or shipping.

1. Prepare the packaging.
3. Once removed, fully charge the battery.
When the battery is removed, fully charge it at least once every 3 months.
Follow the recommendations otherwise the battery may become unusable.

4. Place NAO in its box.
5. Ensure the hands are closed when placed in its box.
6. Ensure NAO’s hands are lined up with the casing otherwise
the top casing will not fit and you might break NAO’s fingers.
When NAO turns OFF, the robot automatically closes its hands.

Before Contacting Support
Troubleshooting
1. Check if the battery is charged.
2. Ensure the Initial Setup was carried out.
3. Check if there are any notifications pending.
4. Turn NAO OFF (or perform a forced turn OFF)
and turn it ON again.
