Chapter 1: Overview
Please read the information in the user guide before using the SiteStand®mobile docking station
(SiteStand). It applies to the SiteStand, accessories, and peripherals. For information about the
accessories and peripherals, please see the manufacturer’s Operating Instructions shipped with each
product.
SiteStand
The SiteStand does the following:
•Provides a mobile, ergonomic work surface with height and angle adjustment
•Holds the SonoSite system, two transducers, a printer, a VCR, display, and certain accessories
•Charges the system battery and consolidates the following peripheral connections: two video
out, an audio out, an RS-232, a printer control, and two AC power
•Offers a connection to a personal computer (PC) to download bitmap images
•Provides a locking feature to secure system against theft
SiteStand Displays
An optional flat panel display is available for the SiteStand with the following features:
•A high resolution display
•An additional video display for patients, students, consulting professionals or others who
require shared images
•Compatibility with all SiteStands
•Convenient display positioning with an articulating arm
•Worldwide power and video

Safety
Please read the information before using the ultrasound system. It applies to the ultrasound system,
transducers, peripherals, and accessories.
•A WARNING describes precautions necessary to prevent injury or loss of life.
•A Caution describes precautions necessary to protect the products.
Electrical Safety
WARNING: To avoid the risk of electrical shock, use commercial grade peripherals
recommended by SonoSite on battery power only. Do not connect these products to
the AC power connectors on the SiteStand mobile docking station when using the
system to scan or diagnose a patient/subject. Contact SonoSite or your local
representative for a listing of the commercial grade peripherals available from or
recommended by SonoSite.
To avoid the risk of electrical shock, use only properly grounded equipment. Shock
hazards exist if the AC power adapter is not properly grounded. Grounding
reliability can only be achieved when equipment is connected to a receptacle
marked “Hospital Only” or “Hospital Grade” or the equivalent. The grounding
wire must not be removed or defeated.
To avoid the risk of electrical shock and fire hazard, inspect the AC power adapter
cord and plug on a regular basis. Ensure they are not damaged.
To avoid the risk of electrical shock, use only accessories and peripherals
recommended by SonoSite. Connection of accessories and peripherals not
recommended by SonoSite could result in electrical shock. Contact SonoSite or
your local representative for a list of accessories and peripherals available from or
recommended by SonoSite.
Caution: Electrostatic discharge (ESD), or static shock, is a naturally occurring phenomenon.
ESD is common in conditions of low humidity, which can be caused by heating or
air conditioning. Static shock is a discharge of the electrical energy from a charged
body to a lesser or non-charged body. The degree of discharge can be significant
enough to cause damage to a transducer or an ultrasound system. The following
precautions can help reduce ESD: anti-static spray on carpets, anti-static spray on
linoleum, and anti-static mats.
Excessive bending or twisting of cables can cause a failure or intermittent
operation.

Biological Safety
Observe the following precautions related to biological safety.
User Safety
WARNING: Non-medical (commercial) grade peripheral displays have not been verified or
validated by SonoSite as being suitable for diagnosis.
Do not use the system if it exhibits erratic or inconsistent behavior. Discontinuities
in the scanning sequence are indicative of a hardware failure that must be corrected
before use.
Do not use the system if it exhibits artifacts on the LCD screen, either within the
clinical image or in the area outside of the clinical image. Artifacts are indicative of
hardware and/or software errors that must be corrected before use.
WARNING: To avoid injury to user, patient, or bystander, lower the stand height prior to
transporting and pull the stand over thresholds. Failure to lower the stand and pull
over thresholds when the display is attached could result in the stand becoming
unstable, tipping, or falling over.

Guide. For information about the displays, please see the manufacturer’s Operating Instructions
shipped with your display.
Equipment Protection
To protect your ultrasound system, accessories, and peripherals, follow this precaution.
Symbol Definition
Stand may tip during transportation when pushed over a
threshold.
Lower stand height and pull over thresholds when transporting.
Caution: When the ultrasound system is in the SiteStand mobile docking station, accessories
or peripherals should be connected to the SiteStand. Connecting them directly to
the ultrasound system may cause damage to the equipment. This does not apply to
the ECG cable which must use the dedicated I/O connector on the ultrasound
system.

Chapter 2: Using the SiteStand
This chapter contains information on inserting and removing the system, connecting power,
adjusting the height, locking and unlocking the wheels, and replacing the fuse for the SiteStand.
Inserting and Removing the System from the SiteStand
To insert the system into the SiteStand:
1Press on the release lever to open the sleeve.
2Insert the transducer into the holder on the
SiteStand. Slide the system into the sleeve.
3Latch the SiteStand by using both hands to press
on both sides of the sleeve; press until an audible
click is heard.

To remove the system from the SiteStand:
Connecting the SiteStand to AC Power
To connect the SiteStand to AC power:
When AC power is connected to a system installed in the SiteStand, the system battery charges. The
system operates on battery power if the AC power is not connected to the SiteStand.
1Connect the AC line cord to the power connector at the bottom of the SiteStand.
2Connect the AC line cord to a hospital-grade electrical outlet.
1Hold the system by the handle.
2Press on the release lever to open the sleeve.
3Carefully remove the system by pulling it up and
back.
4Remove the transducer.
Caution: Charge the batteries only when the ambient temperature is between 32° and 104°F
(0° and 40°C).

Adjusting the Height of the SiteStand
To lower the SiteStand:
To raise the SiteStand:
Grasp both sides of the sleeve, press down the foot
pedal and push down on the sleeve.
Grasp both sides of the sleeve, press down the foot
pedal and pull up on the sleeve.
Note: The system should be adjusted to the proper height
prior to use.

To adjust the angle of the SiteStand:
Locking and Unlocking the Wheels
The two front wheels (nearest the foot pedal) are lockable.
To lock the wheels:
Push the locking levers down.
To unlock the wheels:
Pull the locking levers up.
1Hold the sleeve.
2Pull out the knob located under the right side of
the sleeve. Adjust the SiteStand to the desired
angle (three positions are available); adjust until
an audible click is heard.

Replacing the Electrical Fuse
To replace the electrical fuse:
1Disconnect the AC line cord from the hospital-grade electrical outlet.
2Disconnect the AC line cord from the bottom of the SiteStand.
3Use a small, slotted screwdriver to remove the fuse drawer (located directly below the input AC
connector) on the SiteStand.
4Carefully replace the blown fuse with a 250 volt, 6.3 amp, 5.0 x 20 mm Slo-Blo®-type fuse.
5Install the fuse drawer.
6Connect the AC power to the SiteStand.

back into AC power.

This chapter provides instructions on installing the accessories and peripherals to the SiteStand. The
SiteLink Image Manager and IrfanView software are also described.
For information about the display, including warnings and cautions, see the manufacturer’s
Operating Instructions shipped with the display.
Caution: When the ultrasound system is in the SiteStand mobile docking station, accessories
or peripherals should be connected to the SiteStand. Connecting them directly to
the ultrasound system may cause damage to the equipment. This does not apply to
