BBefore You Begin
Check the items supplied
Check to make sure the package contains all of the following items.
If any item is missing, get in touch with your Sony dealer or local
authorized Sony service facility.

Installing lithium batteries
The power source for the MSAC-FD1 consists of two lithium button
batteries (CR2016).
( The CR2016 lithium battery will be indicated below simply as “battery.”)
Before beginning operation, follow the steps shown below to install the
batteries.
1Remove battery covers
Place the MSAC-FD1 on a flat surface. With your finger, press and
hold the upper groove on the battery cover. Turn the battery cover
counterclockwise until it clicks and then remove the battery cover.
2Insert batteries
Insert two new batteries into the battery wells, making sure that the
plus sign faces upward.

• Always replace both batteries at the same time.
• When attaching the battery cover, make sure you do not apply too much force
in pressing on the cover. Too much force could break the cover.
PWARNING
The battery may explode if mistreated. Do not recharge, disassemble, nor
dispose of it in fire.
PLithium Battery
• Use lithium button battery CR2016. Use of any other battery may present a
risk of fire or explosion. Discord used batteries according to the
manufacturer’s instructions.
• Keep the lithium battery out of the reach of children.
• Should the battery be swallowed, immediately consult a doctor.
• Wipe the battery with a dry cloth to ensure good contact.

3Replace the battery covers
After replacing the battery cover, press down and hold the upper
groove with your finger and turn it clockwise until the mark is aligned
with the arrow LOCK mark.

Installing utility software
1Insert the CD-ROM supplied with the adaptor into the CD-
ROM drive.
2Double-click on the CD-ROM icon that appears on the desktop
to display the folder list window. Then double-click on the
ENGLISH folder.
3In the ENGLISH folder, select [MSAC-FD1 Utility] and drag-and-
drop it onto the hard disk to copy it.
That completes the installation.
PNotes
• Do not copy more than one [MSAC-FD1 Utility] onto the hard disk. If an
operating error causes more than one [MSAC-FD1 Utility] to run at the same
time, MSAC-FD1 or “Memory Stick” could be destroyed.
• MSAC-FD1 cannot be used in a network.
Uninstalling utility software

Move the [
MSAC-FD1
Utility] from the hard disk to Trash.

Inserting “Memory Stick”
Insert the “Memory Stick” as shown in the diagram all the way until it
clicks.
Terminals face upward
Make sure that “Memory Stick” is seated securely in the floppy disk
adaptor. Otherwise, it will not work correctly.
Removing “Memory Stick”
Grasp the “Memory Stick” that protrudes from part Aof the floppy disk
adaptor and pull out gently.

Using MSAC-FD1
The Floppy Disk Adaptor Utility software can only be used to download
data (images, etc.) from the Floppy Disk Adapter for Memory Stick
(referred to hereafter as the MSAC-FD1). You cannot use Floppy Disk
Adaptor Utility to write data to "Memory Stick"(delete or rename files,
format disks, etc.).
Refer to your Macintosh User's Guide for more information
on using your Macintosh computer.
Use MSAC-FD1 only when Quick Time is installed.
1Disable the File Exchange (PC Exchange)
This unit does not operate with File Exchange (PC Exchange) in
<enabled> state. Start application. Then when the menu below
appears, go to the Apple Menu, find [Extensions Manager] in the
Control Panels and disable the File Exchange (PC Exchange).
Once PC exchange is disabled, it will remain disabled in subsequent
startups.
2Startup
Double click on [MSAC-FD1 Utility] to start.

* After [MSAC-FD1 Utility] starts, insert MSAC-FD1.
If the application does not start, the menu below appears.
Always press [Eject] when this menu displays. Then repeat the steps
above from the beginning.
Do not select [Initialize]. Selecting [Initialize] will cause the
computer to crash.
3Insert Adaptor
When the startup menu appears, insert MSAC-FD1 into the floppy
disk drive. Check to make sure “Memory Stick” is correctly attached.

Folder or file appears in “Memory Stick.”
JPG file thumbnails can be displayed by placing a check in the [Show
thumbnail] check box to the right of the sub.file list.
(Some types of JPG files will not allow the displaying of thumbnails.)
4File handling
1. Select file
Selecting one folder or one file
Click on the desired file or folder.
Opening the selected folder
Double click on the folder.
Selecting more than one folder or file
•To select folders or files in consecutive order, press and hold the
shift key, and then click on the folder or file at the same time.
•To select any folder or file desired, press the command key and
click on the folder or file.
•To select all folders or files, click on [Select all] from the [Edit]
menu.

2. Copying files
(1)Click on the file to be copied.
(2)Press the [Copy] button.
(3)Click on the folder where the copy will go and press [Choose].
PNotes
• Files can be drag-and-drop copied. Drag-and-drop copying occurs
by moving the file to the location where you want it to be copied.

Copying starts.
When the copy finishes, the menu returns to the file list.
To cancel copying, press the sub.[Cancel] button.
PNotes
• If an attempt is made to copy a file into a location where a file of
the same name already exists, a message will appear to confirm
that the new file will be written over the older one. When that
message appears, select either “replace” or “cancel.”
• Write-protected files cannot be written over.

3. Sorting files
To sort files, click on [Name], [Size] and [Date] in the upper part of
the display menu.
To switch between ascending order and descending order, click on
the button at the right of [Date].
To return to the previous folder
To return to the first or any previous folder, select any menu or
items from the POP UP MENU.
4. Removing MSAC-FD1
To remove the MSAC-FD1 from the floppy disk drive, press [Eject].
That also brings the startup window back onto the screen.
5Quit
After finishing work, select [Quit] in the [File] menu that is in the file
display menu or select [Quit] in the startup menu.
PNotes
• To conserve battery power, always remove the floppy disk adaptor from the
drive when the adaptor is not in use.
• Displaying dialog window without operation for five minutes or over places
MSAC-FD1 into shutdown mode. MSAC-FD1 is then ejected in the next
processing step. If no file is stored in the “Memory Stick”, it will be ejected
without going into the shutdown mode.
• Never run more than one MSAC-FD1 utility at the same time. It may cause the
malfunction of MSAC-FD1 or destroy all data on the MSAC-FD1 or in the
“Memory Stick”.
• MSAC-FD1 cannot be formatted.

Precautions
MSAC-FD1 General precautions
•Do not carry the adaptor in your pocket or the like. It could be damaged
when you sit down.
•Do not use or store the adaptor in any area where it could be subject to
strong static electricity or electrical emissions.
•Always backup valuable data.
•To protect the floppy disk drive, remove the adaptor from the drive
when it is not in use.
•Do not stick any label other than those specially provided onto the
“Memory Stick.”
•While the adaptor is being accessed, never remove the adaptor from the
floppy disk drive, never turn off computer power, and never bump or
apply shock to the computer. Any of these moves could destroy data on
the “Memory Stick.”
•Do not touch the “Memory Stick” terminals with hands or with metal
objects.
•Do not allow foreign objects, dirt or dust to enter the “Memory Stick”
insertion slot of the adaptor.
Cleaning
•If there is any dirt on the outside surface of the adaptor, wipe it off with a
clean, soft, dry cloth.
•Keep the surface of the adaptor that contact the floppy disk drive head
clean at all times. Wipe any dirt away with a clean, soft, dry cloth. If the
contact surface gets dirty, floppy disk drive performance may
deteriorate, or when a floppy disk is operated in the drive, the floppy
disk will be scratched and its data will be lost.

Troubleshooting
Check the items listed below before calling for service. If there is still a
problem after making these checks, call your Sony dealer or local
authorized Sony Service facility.

If the adaptor is not used for approx. five
minutes, it goes automatically into sleep
mode to conserve battery power. The
adaptor cannot be accessed when it is in
sleep mode. To use the adaptor again,
remove it and then reinsert. If the adaptor
is still in sleep mode, leave the adaptor for
a while before reinserting it.
•File Exchange is <enabled>.
