Using This Manual
This manual describes the operation of the MB-8N Network Controller
software supplied with the MB-8N Tuner Base Unit.
To get the most from this manual, read it in combination with the
Operating Instructions for the MB-8N Tuner Base Unit.
Conventions used in this manual
•Operations involving clicking a menu or button, followed by a submenu,
are shown as a selection, with the sequence of menu names separated by
angle brackets.
Example: Select File > New.
•When a key on the keyboard is to be held down while pressing another
key, the key names are shown separated by a plus sign.
Example: Press Ctrl + C.
Note on the screenshots shown in this manual
The appearance of the screen may vary slightly, depending on the
operating system you are using.

Connections
Connect the MB-8N to a computer with a LAN cable.
Use the following cable types, depending on how you are making the
connection.
Connecting directly to the computer: cross-over cable
Connecting to the computer through a hub (for example): straight
cable
For details of connection, refer to the Operating Instructions for the MB-8N Tuner
Base Unit.
Network Settings
This section describes the network connection settings for the MB-8N and
computer. For the computer to be able to recognize the other devices on
the network, it is necessary to set the host name and IP address for every
device to be connected.
The following example shows the settings for four MB-8N units connected
to a computer.
a) Maximum 16 alphanumeric characters
b) The MB-8N IP addresses do not have to be consecutive.
Note
The IP addresses of the devices connected on the network must all be
different. If two devices have the same address on the network, they will
not be recognized correctly.
MB-8N network settings
1Power on the MB-8N.
The MB-8N display shows the message "Welcome" for a few seconds,
then the menu appears.
Note
Do not attempt to make the connection with the computer, or operate
the device from the computer while the message "Welcome" is present
in the MB-8N display. This might result in a malfunction.

2In the local menu, set the host name and IP address.
For details of the method of making the settings, refer to the Operating
Instructions for the MB-8N Tuner Base Unit.
3Power the MB-8N off, then on again.
This completes the settings, and the MB-8N can now be recognized by
the network.
Computer network settings
1Select Start > Settings > Control Panel, and double-click Network
(depending on the settings, this may be a single click).
The Network dialog box opens.
2In the Configuration tab, from the network component list, select
“TCP/IP”, and click Properties.
The TCP/IP Properties dialog box opens.
3In the IP Address tab, select "Specify an IP address".
Note
Do not select "Obtain an IP address automatically".
4Enter the IP address.
Note
Make sure that the IP address does not conflict with the address of any
other device connected on the network connection.

5Enter 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask.
Note
If you enter a value other than 255.255.255.0, it will take some time
for the MB-8N to be recognized on the network.
6Click OK, to close the TCP/IP Properties dialog box.
7Click OK, to close the Network dialog box.
A message appears, prompting you to restart the computer.
8Click Yes, to restart the computer.
The settings are now valid.

Starting Up and Closing Down
Setting the MB-8N to remote mode
To control the MB-8N using this software, it is first necessary to set the
MB-8N operating mode to the remote mode.
For details of the operating mode, refer to the Operating Instructions for the MB-
8N Tuner Base Unit.
Starting
1Select Start > Programs > MB-8N Network Controller > MB-8N
Network Controller v1.00.
The startup option dialog box appears.
Note
You can also double-click on a saved setting file (file extension: m8n)
to start the program. If you start in this way, the settings are
automatically restored.
For details of saving a setting file, see “FILE menu” (page 23).

2In the Display Mode list, select the number of channels that can be
displayed at one time in the monitor cells. (Select from “16ch”, “30ch’,
and “49ch”.)
For details of the monitor cells, see the section "Names and Functions of
Parts" (page 13).
Notes
•When running under Windows 98/Me in 49-channel mode, operation
may be somewhat sluggish.
•The number of monitor cells is limited according to the display
resolution, as follows.
We recommend running this software set to automatically hide the
Windows taskbar, and with a maximized window.
For details of the task bar setting, see the Windows Help information.
3Select the startup method from the following, and click OK.
Search all MB-8N: Before starting, search for all MB-8N units on
the network. Select this when starting up for the first time.
Quick start instead of searching unknown MB-8N: By searching
only for the MB-8N units that were connected on the previous
occasion, the startup time can be reduced. However, newly
connected MB-8N units will not be recognized.
Load the Setting File then start: When the MB-8N and WRU-8N
settings are saved in this software, then read in the settings file
(file extension: ctl or m8n), and reflect it in the device settings.
Note
If you read in a setting file in the ctl format of the previous
version, it is recommended to use the Save As command in the
FILE menu (see page 24) to resave in the m8n format.
When all of the MB-8N units have been recognized, the following
message appears.

Select one of the following, and click OK.
• Set all MB and WRU in accordance with Setting File: Make the
device settings according to the setting file.
•Replace all MB and WRU with present MB and WRU: Clear the
WRU-8N assignments, and start with the current settings.
Start without auto setting: Start without detecting the MB-8N units
on the network. Select this to read out the settings file after
startup.
You can also detect the MB-8N units on the network after startup
(see page 13).
Starting up when you select “Search all MB-8N”
The following dialog box appears, showing the MB-8N detection
results.
To continue the startup operation, click OK.
To repeat the MB-8N detection, click Re-search.
Starting up when you select “Load the Setting File then
start”
If the settings file read in and the current network environment do not
agree (for example, an MB-8N unit is not powered on, or the network
connections have been changed), the following dialog box appears.
To clear the WRU-8N assignment information and start up, click
Forced continue. (The startup continues.)
To check the MB-8N power and connections before restarting, click
Cancel.
While the software is processing the setting information, the following
dialog box appears.
