This instruction manual explains how to use lenses.
Precautions common to all lenses such as notes on use
are found in the separate "Precautions before using". Be
sure to read both documents before using the lens.
This lens is designed for Sony ex cameras.
This lens was developed jointly by Carl Zeiss and Sony
Corporation and designed for Sony A-mount cameras.
This lens is produced according to the strict standards and
quality assurance system of Carl Zeiss.
Notes on use
•When carrying acamera with the lens attached, always firmly
hold both the camera and the lens.
•When using this lens with an E-mount camera, attach a
separately sold Mount Adaptor. Do not attach the lens directly
to the E-mount camera
or you may damage both.
Precautionsfor flash use
When using abuilt-in camera flash, always remove the lens
hood and shoot
at least 1m (3.3 feet) away from your subject.
With certain combinations oflens and flash, the lens may
partially block the light
of the flash, resulting in ashadow at
the bottom
of the picture.
Vignetting
When using lens, the corners of the screen become darker
than the center. To reduce this phenomena (called vignetting),
close the aperture by 1to 2stops.

To attach the lens

1Remove the rear and front lens caps and the
camera body cap.
You can allach/detach the front lens cap in two ways, (1)
and (2). When you allach/detach the lens cap with the lens
hood attached, use method (2).
2Align the orange indexon the lens barrel with
the orange indexon the camera (mounting
index), then insert
the lens into the camera
mount and rotate it clockwise until it locks.
•Do not press the lens release button on the camera when
mounting the lens.
•Do not mount the lens
at an angle.
To remove the lens
(See illustration G)-[g].)
While holding down the lens release button on the
camera, rotate the lens counterclockwise until it stops.
then detach the lens.
[!J Attaching the Lens Hood
It is recommended that you use alens hood to reduce flare
and ensure maximum image quality.
Align the red line on the lens hood with the red point
on the lens, then insert the lens hood into the lens
mount and rotate it clockwise until the red point on
the lens hood is aligned with the red point on the lens
and the lens hood clicks into place.
•When using abuilt-in camera flash, remove the lens hood to
avoid blocking the flash light.
•Ifthere
is ared line or other mark, attach the lens hood
precisely
or it may be ineffective or appear in pictures.
•When storing.
fit the lens hood onto the lens backwards. '
6] Focusing
To switch between AF (autofocus) and
MF (manual focus)
Focusing can be switched between AF and MF on the lens.
For AF photography, both the camera and lens should be
set to AF.
For MF photography, either or both the camera
or lens should be set to MF.
To set the focus mode on the lens
(See illustration 6]-[1].)
Slide the focus-mode switch to the appropriate mode, AF
orMF.
In MF, turn the focusing ring to adjust the focus while
looking
through the viewfinder (See illustration [!]-[g]).
The focus signal in the viewfinder indicates the current
focusing state.
To use acamera equipped with an AFt
MF control button
•Press the AF/MFcontrol button to switch AF to MF when
both the camera and lens are set to
AF.
•Press the AF/MF control button to switch MF to AF when the
camera
is set to MF and the lens is set to AF.
Directmanualfocus (DMF)
Rotate the focusing ring to set the correct DMF when the
focus is locked in AF-A (automatic auto focus) or Af-S
(singleshot auto focus).
•DMF
is not available in the following cases:
-When the image is out of focus
-When AF-C (continuous auto focus) is selected
-When focusing of the second photo is complete in
continuous recording in AF-A
Shooting at infinity in MF
The focusing mechanism turns slightly past infinity
to provide accurate focusing
under various operating
temperatures. Always confirm the image sharpness through
the viewfinder, especially when the lens is focused near
infinity.
Focus-hold button

Notes on use
• Do not leave the lens exposed to the sun or abright light
source. Internal malfunction of the camera body and lens,
or a flre may result due to the effect oflight focusing. If
circumstances necessitate leaving the lens in sunlight, be sure
to allach the lens caps.
• Be careful not to subject the lens/teleconverter to mechanical
shock while attaching it.
• Always place the lens caps on the lens/teleconverter when
storing.
•Do not keep the lenslteleconverter in avery humid place for a
long period of time to prevent mold.
• Do not touch the lens contacts. Ifdirt, etc" gets on the lens
contacts, it may interfere or prevent the sending and receiving
of signals between the lens and the camera, resulting in
operational malfunction.
Condensation
Ifyour lens is brought directly from acold place to awarm
place, condensation may appear on the lens. To avoid this,
place the lens in aplastic bag or something similar. When
the air temperature inside the bag reaches the surrounding
temperature, take the lens out.
Cleaning the lens
• Do not touch the surface of the lens directly.
•If the lens gets dirty, brush offdust with alens blower
and wipe with asoft, clean doth (Cleaning Cloth is
recommended).
•Do not use any organic solvent, such as thinner or benzine, to
dean the lens or the camera cone.

Para evitarlo,
colaque el objetivo en una balsa de plastico

Cuando la temperatura del interior de la balsa
akance la temperatura ambientt', extraiga el objetivo.

Feuchtigkeitskondensation
Wird das Objektiv direkt von einem kalten in einen warmen
Raum gebracht, kann sich auf der Linse Feuchtigkeit
niederschlagen. Um dies zu vcrmeiden, legen Sie
das
Objektiv in einen Plastikbeutel oder etwas Ahnliches. Wenn
die Lufttemperatur im Plastikbeutel die glekhe Ternperatur
hat wie die Umgebung, nehmen Sie das Objektiv heraus.
Reinigen des Objektivs
•Beriihren Sic die Linsenoberfliiche nieht direkt.
•
1st die Linse verschmutzt, entfernen Sic den Staub mit einem
Staubbliiser und wischen
Sie mit einem sauberen, weichen
Tuch nach (empfohlen wird das Reinigungstuch).
•Verwenden
Sie zum Rcinigen von Objektiv und
Kamerafassung keine organischen
LOsungsmiUel wie
Verdunner oder Benzin.
