T ere is not ing complicated about operating and maintaining your T ermo
King unit, but a few minutes studying t is manual will be time well spent.
Performing pre-trip c ecks and enroute inspections on a regular basis will
minimize operating problems. A regular maintenance program will also elp
to keep your unit in top operating condition. If factory recommended
procedures are followed, you will find t at you ave purc ased t e most
efficient and dependable temperature control system available.
All service requirements, major and minor, s ould be andled by a T ermo
King dealer for four very important reasons:
• T ey are equipped wit t e factory recommended tools to perform all
service functions
• T ey ave factory trained and certified tec nicians
• T ey ave genuine T ermo King replacement parts
• T e warranty on your new unit is valid only w en t e repair and
replacement of component parts is performed by an aut orized T ermo

dealer and to be aware of several general safety practices.
Safety advisories appear t roug out t is manual as required. Your personal
safety and t e proper operation of t is unit depend upon t e strict
observance of t ese precautions.
Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not
avoided, will result in death or serious injury.
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in death or serious injury.
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in minor or moderate injury and unsafe practices.
Indicates a situation that could result in equipment or property-
damage only accidents.

General Safety Practices

Keep ands and loose clot ing clear of fans and belts at all times w en t e
unit is operating wit t e doors open.

Do not apply eat to a closed cooling system. Before applying eat to a
cooling system, drain it. T en flus it wit water and drain t e water.
Antifreeze contains water and et ylene glycol. T e et ylene glycol is
flammable and can ignite if t e antifreeze is eated enoug to boil off t e
water.

Temperatures above 120 degrees F (50 degrees C) can cause serious burns.
Use an infrared t ermometer or ot er temperature measuring device
before touc ing any potentially ot surfaces.

Exposed coil fins can cause lacerations. Service work on t e evaporator or
condenser coils is best left to a certified T ermo King tec nician.

Automatic Start/Stop Operation
CCAAUUTTIIOONN

T e unit can start and run automatically any time t e unit is turned on. Turn
t e Microprocessor On/Off switc Off before doing inspections or working
on any part of t e unit. Please note t at only Qualified and Certified
personnel s ould attempt to service your T ermo King unit.
Battery Installation and Cable Routin

HHaazzaarrdd ooff EExxpplloossiioonn!!
An improperly installed battery could result in a fire, explosion, or injury. A
T ermo King approved battery must be installed and properly secured to
t e battery tray.

Improperly installed battery cables could result in a fire, explosion, or
injury. Battery cables must be installed, routed, and secured properly to
prevent t em from rubbing, c affing, or making contact wit ot, s arp, or
rotating components.

Do not attac fuel lines to battery cables or electrical arnesses. T is as
t e potential to cause a fire and could cause serious injury or deat .

A battery can be dangerous. A battery contains a flammable gas t at can
ignite or explode. A battery stores enoug electricity to burn you if it
disc arges quickly. A battery contains battery acid t at can burn you.
Always wear goggles or safety glasses and personal protective equipment
w en working wit a battery. If you get battery acid on you, immediately
flus it wit water and get medical attention.

Always cover battery terminals to prevent t em from making contact wit
metal components during battery installation. Battery terminals grounding
against metal could cause t e battery to explode.

Set all unit electrical controls to t e OFF position before connecting battery
cables to t e battery to prevent unit from starting unexpectedly and causing
personal injury.

Do not connect ot er manufacturer’s equipment or accessories to t e unit
unless approved by T ermo King. Failure to do so can result in severe
damage to equipment and void t e warranty.

Alt oug fluorocarbon refrigerants are classified as safe, use caution w en
working wit refrigerants or in areas w ere t ey are being used.

Refrigerant in t e presence of an open flame, spark, or electrical s ort
produces toxic gases t at are severe respiratory irritants w ic can cause
serious injury or possible deat .

Do not in ale refrigerant. Use caution w en working wit refrigerant or a
refrigeration system in any confined area wit a limited air supply.
Refrigerant displaces air and can cause oxygen depletion, resulting in
suffocation and possible deat .

PPeerrssoonnaall PPrrootteeccttiivvee EEqquuiippmmeenntt ((PPPPEE)) RReeqquuiirreedd!!
Refrigerant in a liquid state evaporates rapidly w en exposed to t e
atmosp ere, freezing anyt ing it contacts. Wear butyl lined gloves and
ot er clot ing and eye wear w en andling refrigerant to elp prevent
frostbite.

Observe t e following precautions w en working wit or around refrigerant
oil:

Protect your eyes from contact wit refrigerant oil. T e oil can cause serious
eye injuries. Protect skin and clot ing from prolonged or repeated contact
wit refrigerant oil. To prevent irritation, was your ands and clot ing
t oroug ly after andling t e oil. Rubber gloves are recommended.
First Aid
RREEFFRRIIGGEERRAANNTT
•EEyyeess:: For contact wit liquid, immediately flus eyes wit large amounts
of water and get prompt medical attention.
•SSkkiinn:: Flus area wit large amounts of warm water. Do not apply eat.
Remove contaminated clot ing and s oes. Wrap burns wit dry, sterile,
bulky dressing to protect from infection. Get prompt medical attention.
Was contaminated clot ing before reuse.
•IInn aallaattiioonn:: Move victim to fres air and use Cardio Pulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) or mout -to-mout resuscitation to restore
breat ing, if necessary. Stay wit victim until emergency personnel
arrive.
•FFrroosstt BBiittee:: In t e event of frost bite , t e objectives of First Aid are to
protect t e frozen area from furt er injury, warm t e affected area
rapidly, and to maintain respiration.
RREEFFRRIIGGEERRAANNTT OOIILL
•EEyyeess:: Immediately flus wit large amounts of water for at least 15
minutes. Get prompt medical attention.
•SSkkiinn:: Remove contaminated clot ing. Was t oroug ly wit soap and
water. Get medical attention if irritation persists.

Resuscitation (CPR) or mout -to-mout resuscitation to restore

control center or p ysician.

minutes. Get prompt medical attention.

EELLEECCTTRRIICCAALL SSHHOOCCKK
Take IMMEDIATE action after a person as received an electrical s ock. Get
quick medical assistance, if possible.
T e source of t e s ock must be quickly stopped, by eit er s utting off t e
power or removing t e victim. If t e power cannot be s ut off, t e wire
s ould be cut wit an non-conductive tool, suc as a wood- andle axe or
t ickly insulated cable cutters. Rescuers s ould wear insulated gloves and
safety glasses, and avoid looking at wires being cut. T e ensuing flas can
cause burns and blindness.
If t e victim must be removed from a live circuit, pull t e victim away wit a
non-conductive material. Use wood, rope, a belt or coat to pull or pus t e
victim away from t e current. DO NOT TOUCH t e victim. You will receive a
s ock from current flowing t roug t e victim’s body. After separating t e
victim from power source, immediately c eck for signs of a pulse and
respiration. If no pulse is present, start Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
(CPR). If a pulse is present, respiration mig t be restored by using mout -to-
mout resuscitation. Call for emergency medical assistance.

Move victim to fres air and use Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or
mout -to-mout resuscitation to restore breat ing, if necessary. Stay wit
victim until emergency personnel arrive.
