T is manual was written to assist wit t e general installation of T ermo King®components onto trucks designed and
built for refrigerated applications. T e TT eerrmmoo KKiinngg IInnssttaallllaattiioonn SSttaannddaarrddss aanndd PPrroocceedduurreess GGuuiiddee (TK 56430)
provides more detailed information t at must be followed to safely and properly complete t e entire installation.
Due to its complexity, you s ould not attempt t is installation unless you:
• Are an experienced mec anic.
• Can safely lift 34 kg (75 lbs.).
• In t e U.S., EPA 608 certified and trained in t e repair and maintenance of transport refrigeration systems.
• Have a basic understanding of electricity and electrical wiring.
• Have t e necessary tools and equipment to complete t e installation.
• Have a truck body designed and built to meet t e requirements of t is installation.

Engine Driven ompressor Installation

IImmppoorrttaanntt Failure to add the correct amount and type of oil will damage the compressor! Refer to “Compressor Oil
Requirements,” p. 23.
IImmppoorrttaanntt It is critical that a P–trap is installed in the suction line bbeeffoorree the roadside compressor. See Section 6 –

Evaporator Installation
Preparing Evaporator for Installation
over Removal (All Models)
1. Remove plastic cover assembly to access t e unit mounting oles.

Installing the Accumulator Assembly (Heat Option Only)
NNoottee ES500 shown, ES300 similar.
Wit evaporator cover removed, position accumulator assembly at rear of evaporator:
1. Remove cap and connect 7/8” tube from accumulator to mating tube inside evaporator.
IImmppoorrttaanntt Ensure O–ring is oiled and properly inserted.
a. Tig ten fitting to 28–33 lb-ft.
2. Secure accumulator to rear of evporator wit supplied ardware.
a. Tig ten ardware to 5.8–7.8 lb-ft.

Preferred Installation Method — Pre-Installed Support Plate
T ermo King recommends installing a support plate wit mounting studs or t readed inserts (installer supplied) to t e
truck’s interior roof structure to safely support t e weig t of t e evaporator(s). T e plate s ould be installed prior to
insulating and finis ing t e cargo area. T e plate s ould also position t e evaporator t e required distance from t e
front bulk ead wall to allow for refrigerant and drain ose connections.
1. Secure evaporator onto ceiling mounted support plate, install mounting ardware and tig ten securely.

Alternate Installation Method — Backer Plates
An alternate met od for securing t e evaporator(s) to t e cargo ceiling is by using backer plates (installer supplied).
1. Locate and mark center line ((CC//LL)) of interior compartment ceiling.
2. Center evaporator onto ceiling ((oorr uussee tteemmppllaattee)) and mark t e location of t e four mounting oles.
3. Inside t e cargo box:
a. Drill four guide oles into t e compartment ceiling and up t roug t e roof.
b. Enlarge guide oles to proper size.
4. Outside on t e rooftop:
a. Apply silicone sealer around all mounting oles, place backing plates over oles and insert mounting bolts
down into cargo box.
5. Inside t e cargo box:
a. Position evaporator onto mounting bolts, install was ers and locking nuts and and tig ten ardware securely.
b. Trim excess bolt lengt s as needed.
IImmppoorrttaanntt Apply silicone sealer to exterior bolt heads to prevent water from migrating into the cargo box.

Alternate Installation Method — Lag Bolts and Adhesive
An alternate installation met od for securing t e evaporator(s) to t e cargo ceiling is by using lag bolts and was ers
(supplied) and applying neutral/alco ol cure silicone sealer (installer supplied).
1. Locate and mark center line ((CC//LL)) of interior compartment ceiling.
2. Center evaporator onto ceiling ((oorr uussee tteemmppllaattee)) and mark t e location of t e four mounting oles.
3. Drill four 5mm (3/16 in.) mounting oles into t e ceiling.
4. Install t e supplied 1/4” lag bolts and was ers only a few turns into t e ceiling.
5. Apply neutral/alco ol cure silicone sealer (installer supplied) per t e manufacturer’s instructions to t e top surface
of t e evaporator.
6. Position evaporator onto t e lag bolts and and tig ten securely.

Refrigeration Module Installation
NNoottee Component dimensions are provided at the back of this manual.
Preferred Installation Method — Pre-Installed Support Plate
T ermo King recommends installing a support plate wit mounting studs or t readed inserts (installer supplied) to t e
truck’s interior roof structure to safely support t e weig t of t e refrigeration module. T e plate s ould be installed
prior to insulating and finis ing t e cargo area.
1. Remove plastic cover from module and trim t e foam gasket away from t e two drain oles located in t e corners
of t e module.
NNoottee The access hole must be located behind bulkhead and inside the cargo compartment. This is necessary so the
refrigeration hoses and electrical harness will be located on the inside of the cargo compartment, not in the
passengers compartment.
2. Mark and drill access ole completely t roug roof and into interior compartment.
3. Apply silicone sealant around access ole and install supplied gasket.
4. Apply silicone sealant around all mounting oles or inserts on t e roof of t e ve icle.
5. Use a 2-point lifting device wit locking ooks attac ed to module’s two lifting brackets and raise into position on
ve icle’s roof.
6. Secure module to support plate and tig ten ardware securely.
IImmppoorrttaanntt Apply silicone sealer to exterior mounting hardware to prevent water from migrating into the cargo box.

Alternate Installation Method — Lag Bolts
An alternate installation met od for securing t e Refrigeration Module to t e ve icle’s roof is by using t e supplied lag
bolts and was ers. Multiple mounting oles are provided along t e sides of t e module for mounting options. C oose
four mounting oles, ideally one in eac corner to secure t e module to t e ve icle’s roof.
1. Remove plastic cover from module and trim t e foam gasket away from t e two drain oles located in t e corners
of t e module.
NNoottee The access hole must be located behind bulkhead and inside the cargo compartment. This is necessary so the
refrigeration hoses and electrical harness will be located on the inside of the cargo compartment, not in the
passengers compartment.
2. Mark and drill access ole completely t roug roof and into interior compartment.
3. Apply silicone sealant around access ole and install supplied gasket.
4. Use a 2-point lifting device wit locking ooks attac ed to module’s two lifting brackets and raise into position on
ve icle’s roof.
5. Mark and drill four 5mm (3/16 in.) mounting oles only into internal ceiling roof supports.
6. Apply silicone sealant around eac mounting ole.
7. Secure module to roof wit supplied 1/4” lag bolts and was ers and and tig ten ardware securely.

Power Pack Module Installation
MMooddeellss 2200 aanndd MMAAXX 2200,, 5500,, MMAAXX 5500 aanndd SSPPEECCTTRRUUMM OONNLLYY..
NNoottee It is recommended the suction and discharge copper tubing (supplied) be installed onto the standby compressor
prior to raising the Power Pack Module onto the roof of the vehicle. It is much easier to install the tubes on a
workbench rather then on the roof of the vehicle.
IImmppoorrttaanntt The standby compressor in the power pack module contains oil. Tip the module up slightly on a workbench
and place rags under the compressor’s ORS fittings before removing the protective caps.
1. Remove plastic cover assembly from t e Power Pack Module.
2. Tip module up slig tly and place rags under t e ORS fittings.
3. Remove protective caps from t e ORS fittings.
4. Lubricate t e O-rings and install t em onto t e copper tube fittings.
5. Position t e tubes onto t e compressor fittings and secure wit supplied manifold old down bracket and retaining
screw. Tig ten screw securely.
6. T e Power Pack Module can now be installed onto t e ve icle.

1. Apply silicone sealant around all mounting bolts or inserts on t e roof of t e ve icle.

Alternate Installation Method — Lag Bolts
An alternate installation met od for securing t e Power Pack Module to t e ve icle’s roof is by using lag bolts and
was ers (supplied). Multiple mounting oles are provided every two inc es along t e sides of t e module for mounting
options. C oose four mounting oles, ideally one in eac corner to secure module to t e ve icle’s structural roof
supports.

3. Use t e modules’s mounting oles as a template and drill four 5mm (3/16 in.) oles into t e internal structural roof
supports.
4. Apply silicone sealant around eac mounting ole.
5. Secure module to roof wit supplied 1/4” lag bolts and was ers and and tig ten ardware securely.
