ABD shoulder immobilizer

1. Introduction
Prior to use of our products you should inspect the equipment for any defects which may have
occurred during transport. If this happens, please contact your retailer.
Then, please read this instruction which includes important information for the user.
Please contact us if you have any questions concerning the use of the equipment. Our advisors will
provide you with any information you require on an ongoing basis.
Please note that if you have questions other than those concerning the use of our products, you
should contact your doctor, nurse or physical therapist.
2. Characteristics
ABD shoulder immobilizer consists of a sling which is attached to the Velcro adjustable strap, a
profiled abduction pillow attached to the transverse circumferential strap and a system of Velcro and
clips for individual adjustment.
3. Application
ABD shoulder immobilizer is used after physical injuries of glenohumeral joint. The immobilizer is
used to relieve and stabilize glenohumeral joint in frontal plane position and to align humerus bone
in intermediate position.
Indications for use:
•Twists and subluxation of glenohumeral joint
•Injuries of brachial plexus
•In acute and chronic pain syndrome
•Fractures of head and neck of humerus bone
•Inflammation of synovial bursae
•Injuries of muscle attachments i.a. Rotator cuff
•In preventive and post-surgical treatment
4. Contraindications
Do not use in case of:
•Skin abrasion
•Eczema
•Wound and other skin injuries
•After application of warming gel or ointment
•Individual contraindications which were determined by the doctor during interview and
physical examination

5. Notes and recommendations
•Note! Do not use the product without doctor’s advice.
•Note! Use the product according to doctor’s or physiotherapist’s recommendation.
•Do not use the product in case of contraindications listed in point 4.
•Note! The immobilizer must be adjusted and fitted properly in terms of size. Too loose or too
tight immobilizer may cause skin abrasion.
•Note! Remember that the time of wearing the immobilizer should be shortened
systematically and determined by the professional doctor or physiotherapist who possesses
proper medical qualifications.
•Note! Check the condition of the product regularly. In case of any damage, report
immediately to the point of sale.
•Do not make any repairs or modifications by yourself.

6. Fitting instruction
Note! Do not use the immobilizer when you notice any visible or perceptible damage.
Note! Follow the information contained in this manual while fitting and adjustment. Users with
severe pain in upper limb and reduced mobility may need help from a third person who has
appropriate skills.
•Put on the immobilizer in sitting or standing position.
•Put the circumferential strap with abduction pillow around patient’s trunk and fasten with
the use of the clip, and then, adjust the length.
•The abduction pillow should be placed in frontal-lateral part of the trunk.
•Put the forearm into the sling so that the elbow joint is at the back of the sling.
•Wrap the opposite shoulder with strap from the back to the front, lead the strap through the
buckles of the sling and attach to the Velcro strap. Then, adjust the length of the strap.
•Stabilize the sling at the abduction pillow with the use of Velcro and included short straps.
•Foamed pillow which is attached at the main wedge 30° is used to stabilize the position of
the forearm and to prevent free arm drop.
•Remember that only properly matched size of the immobilizer guarantees correct
stabilization and relief of the upper limb.

8. Maintenance
•Hand wash in warm water. Do not tumble, chlorinate, iron, bleach, dry clean, use tumble
dryer.
•Ensure Velcro is fastened in order not to damage the material.
•Dry at room temperature far from intensive heat source.
Note! Maintenance information can be found on the material label.
Note! Lack of personal hygiene, usage of improper preservative and washing agents may cause
abrasions and other damage as well as increased perspiration and development of bacterial flora.
9. Warranty information
All products distributed by our company are under a warranty, the terms of which are described in
the warranty card received at the time of purchase. Please, keep in mind that for warranty purposes,
the proof of purchase (receipt or invoice) should be retained.
