1. Definitions and symbols used
1.1 Definitions
The terms used in this manual have the following meanings:
"Anchorage system": Safety equipment
"Qualified person": An authorized specialist is considered to be someone who has undergone specialist training
and has sufficient knowledge in the field of anchorage systems and is familiar with the relevant government
industrial safety and accident prevention regulations, directives and the recognized technical regulations of
other EU member statesto the degree that they are capable of evaluating the safe working condition and proper
application of anchorage systems (BGG 906)
"Operator": Person or department that is assigned with the use of the product for the purpose that it is intended.
"Fitter": Person or department that is responsible for the assembly of the elements of the products received,
installation to operational readiness, disassembly, deinstallation and also transportation for the purpose of
storage and holding.
"User": Qualified person that is responsible for the maintenance work described and permitted in this manual and
is competent and familiar with the use of the product.
"PPE": Personal protective equipment, e.g. safety shoes, gloves
"PPE against falls": Personal protective equipment against falls, e.g. safety harness, lanyard

1.3 Safety instructions
l) If faults or damages are found during operation or any
circumstances arise, which would endanger safety:
Stop working immediately and inform the supervisor
or contractor!
m) Damaged parts may not be used and must be
replaced.
n) If load bearing parts are being repaired or replaced,
a qualified person must check the operating safety
of the system.
o) Guarantee claims lodged against the manufacturer and
the CE approval will be invalidated if replacement parts
other than original replacement parts are used.
p) It is forbidden to make any modifications, retrofits
or conversions to the anchorage system without the
manufacturer's written authorization.
q) The manufacturer will not accept any liability for damages
resulting from modifications and conversions made to
the devices, or from the use of non-original parts that
have not been authorized by the manufacturer.
a) Only those personnel that are familiar with the
assembly and / or operation of the anchorage
system and its suspension should be assigned.
They must have been authorized by the contractor
to carry out the respective tasks.
b) The assembly personnel assigned must be healthy
and at least 18 years of age. They must know the
relevant accident prevention regulations
and have received the corresponding
training. They must have read and
understood this installation manual.
They must have received training in
the use of "Personal protective equipment against
falls".
c) A copy of this installation manual must be
provided and readily available to operating and
maintenance personnel at all times.
d) If more than one person is entrusted with the
above-mentioned tasks, the contractor must
appoint a supervisor who is authorized to issue
instructions.
e) During operation all persons moving on the
anchorage system must wear
personal protective equipment
against falls from a height which
they must fasten to the rigging points
provided for this purpose.
The clearance beneath the anchorage system
must be left free.
f) During operation, communication means such as
a mobile telephone must be carried in case of an
emergency.
g) Only technically sound anchorage systems,
anchorage devices and rigging must be used.
h) Before beginning installation check that all parts
are present and in perfect condition.
i) The user has to be mentally and physically eligible
for working at heights.
k) Prior to installing the anchorage system, make
sure that the sub-construction has an adequate
load bearing capacity.

2. Presentation
2.1 Delivery state and scope of the anchorage
system
2.1.1 Delivery state of the anchorage system
The anchorage system is supplied disassembled.
2.1.2 Scope of delivery
The following accessories are not included in the scope of
supply:
– Guide rails (Fig. 1)
– Joint connector (Fig. 2)
– Clamps for I-120 beam (Fig. 3a) (optional)
– Fixing clamps (Fig. 3b)
– Detachable catch (Fig. 4a)
– Fixed catch (Fig. 4b)
– Optional: Guide rails as peripheral rail (Fig. 5a)
– Optional: Guide rails for right-angled bends (Fig. 5b)
– Optional: Guide rails for other bend routes (Fig. 5c)
– Optional: Junctions (Fig. 6)
The scope of delivery depends on the customers requirements.
2.1.3 Documentation
The following documents are supplied along with the anchorage
system:
– Original installation manual
– Original inspection book
– Manufacturer's declaration
– If applicable, project designation (in case of customized
production according to customer requirements)
2.2.1 Intended use
The FABA™anchoring system is a "permanently installed
anchorage system with a fixed horizontal guide rail" according to
EN 795, Class D and is designed to protect the user from falling from
a height. It is fixed directly onto the structure or a sub-construction
using support brackets which are appropriate for the subsurface.
The max. distance between support brackets for the anchorage
system is 1.50 m. FABA™anchorage systems must not be used
by more than three persons at the same time. The load-bearing
capacity of the subsurface has to be at least 12 kN for each
support bracket.
2.2.2 Working procedure
The anchorage device W3 travels in the guide rail which is connected
to the personal safety equipment (PPE) to protect against falls from
a height as a travelling rigging point. The anchorage device follows
the user as it is travelling along the system without the user having
to manually handle the anchorage device. In the case of a fall, the
anchorage device secures the fall protection system and prevents
the user from falling any further.

2.2.3 Limits of the anchorage system
The FABA™ anchorage system AW1 is designed for the protection against falls from a height on horizontal walkways
only. It must not be used on inclinations. The FABA™anchorage system AW1 must not be used by more than three
persons at the same time. Transporting loads using the anchorage system is not permitted.
The FABA™anchorage system AW1 must be used only in conjunction with approved personal protective equipment
against falls (according to EEC 89/686/CE and national regulations).
Before each use, the user should carry out a visual inspection of the anchorage system and the associated PPE
against falls in order to ensure that they are in good condition for use, compatible, and correctly in place and
connected.
The necessary clearance to be maintained above the base must be obtained from the respective operating
instructions of the harness together with the PPE against falls. Before using the safety harness in conjunction with
another PPE against falls each time, the necessary clearance must be ensured beneath the system so that the
person does not hit the ground in event of a fall.
2.3 Guidelines and specifications
2.3.1 Commissioning
Following professional installation, the FABA™anchorage system AW1 must be inspected and cleared for use by a
technical expert. The results of the inspection must be documented in the inspection book.
Moreover, the regulations and legal guidelines as stated in 2.3.3 apply. Other national regulations must be
observed.
2.3.2 Maintenance and inspection
Only persons authorized by TRACTEL Greifzug GmbH are allowed to perform maintenance and inspection on the
anchorage system (see definition and chapter 10).

The guide rail (Fig. 9) is used for mounting the anchorage
device W3.
Length: 1,000 mm – 6,000 mm

The joint connectors (Fig. 10) are used to make the joint
between two guide rail sections.

The clamps and support brackets (Fig. 11a – d) are used to
fix the guide rail (Fig. ) to the different subsurfaces.
The fixing clamps (Fig. 11a) are used to fix the guide rail
to the different sub-constructions on which a push-through
assembly can be carried out.

The clamps for the I-120 beam (Fig. 11b) are used for fixing
the rail to the supporting construction (I-120 beam).

The support bracket for ceiling assembly (Fig. 11d) allows
the guide rail to be mounted, e.g. under the ceiling, using

direction within a system.

Other bend routes are possible.
These are customized designs that are produced especially
according to your desires.
The junctions (Fig. 14) are used to make a joint between
two guide rails that cross each other at an angle of 90°.
The crossing rails can be used without having to remove
the anchorage device.
The junction is a customized design that can be produced
according to your requirements.

3.4 Products forming part of the anchorage system
3.4.1 Anchorage device W3
5. Inspection book
An inspection book must be implemented in which the following details must be provided:
– Testing, maintenance and troubleshooting
– Fault report
The inspection book for the system is supplied and must be stored by the system operator.
The anchorage device W3 (Fig. 15) is inserted at one end of the
guide rail of the system. It is used to secure persons. Only one
person per anchorage device can be secured on the anchorage
system using PPE against falls. A maximum of three persons may
be secured on the system at the same time.
The anchorage device accompanies the user over the complete
path by running along automatically.
4. Other accessories
4.1 Personal protective equipment against falls
Each person attached to the anchorage system must remain secured with their PPE against falls at all times. This PPE
is not included in the scope of delivery of the anchorage system. It must however, fulfil all standards and guidelines.
The PPE against falls that is intended for securing on the anchorage system must provide the user with the possibility
to move freely along the entire anchorage system and without impairing their freedom of movement in any way. Exiting
the anchorage system is only permitted at a place where it is safe to stand without falling.
6. Installation and maintenance
6.1 Important notes on the guide rail assembly
– When using anchor fastenings, only use those
authorized by the building authorities. Ask the
manufacturer of the anchor fitting you wish to use
whether it is suitable for the respective subsurface
conditions.
– Check that the subsurface or building has a sufficient
load-bearing capacity prior to installation.
– This must be checked by a qualified specialist engineer.
– The possible fall distance must be reduced to a
minimum.
– There must be a sufficient clearance underneath the
anchorage system.
– The guide rails must be installed horizontally without any
inclinations.

3.3 Technical data and weights
3.3.1 General information
The technical data and weights can be found in the description of the individual components.
– The distance of the support brackets must not exceed
1,500 mm.
– The last support bracket at the end of the guide rail
must be mounted 125 mm before the end.
– In the area of the joint connectors, two support
brackets must be mounted each at a distance of
125 mm to the joining point.
– In the area of the junctions, two support brackets must
be mounted at a distance of 250 mm to the centre of
the junction.

6.3 Check the scope of delivery
Prior to the installation, the scope of delivery has to be checked for completeness using the delivery note and,
where necessary, the project drawing.
The components must not be deformed or damaged in any way.
Do not try to repair or use any damaged components. They must be replaced with original parts only.
16.4.1 Fixing clamps (Fig. 16 – 17a)
1. The fixing clamps (Pos. 2 of the general view) is fixed
to the sub-construction using an M12 screw (2).
2. The M12 screw (2) is guided through the middle, anti-
twist protected hole (1) of the clamp.
3. Fix the M12 screw above the sub-construction with a
spring washer and a self-locking nut.
Torque for the screw connection: M12 (2) = 60 Nm
M 8 (3) = 18 Nm

already installed on-site and pre-assembled hand tight.
2. After inserting the guide rail (see 6.4.5), the screws (1)
are screwed tight.

1. The support bracket (Pos. 6) is fixed to the concrete wall
(concrete strength, min B25) using anchor fittings approved for
use by the building authorities.
2. Then mount the fixing clamps as described under point 6.4.1.
The anchor fastenings must have a load bearing capacity of
12 kN (Fig. 17d).
1. The support bracket (Pos. 9) is fixed overhead to the ceiling
using two anchor fittings approved for use by the building
authorities.
2. Then the fixing clamps are mounted to the support bracket
as described under point 6.4.1.
The anchor fastenings must have a load bearing capacity of
12 kN (Fig. 17f).
6.4.5 Guide rail (Fig. 18 and 19 a and b)
6.4.6 Joint connector (Fig. 20 a – c)
1. The guide rail (Pos. 1) is inserted at an angle into one side
of the fastening clamp (1).
2. Secure by pressing into the support bracket.
3. Then the guide rail is fixed in place by tightening the two
screws M8 (2).
Torque for the screw connection: M8 = 18 Nm
First it is pre-assembled on one end of the rail:
1. The pressure piece is placed on the guide rail from outside
and screw bolt from the inside.
2. Then the screw is screwed into the screw bolt hand tight from
the outside.
3. The second guide rail is pushed in-between the screw bolt and
the pressure piece of the joint connector on the other guide rail.
4. Then the M8 screws are guided through the holes in the guide
rail and screwed into the screw bolts.
Torque for the screw connection: M8 = 18 Nm

6.4.7 Fixed catch (Fig. 21)
6.4.8 Detachable catch (Fig. 22)
The length of pipe for the fixed catch (Fig. 21) is inserted
into the end of the guide rail and the M8 x 80 screw is
pushed through the holes in the guide rail from the outside
and through the length of pipe.
Then the screw is locked using a self-locking nut according
to DIN 985.
Torque for the screw connection: M8 = 18 Nm
The bolt of the detachable catch (Fig. 22) is guided from
the inside through a hole at the end of the guide rail.
On the outside of the guide rail, first a washer, then a
spring and finally another washer are pushed on the bolt.
Then the washer and the spring are secured using a cotter
pin. The cotter pin must be bent over at the ends so that it
is secured against slipping out. Then the protective cover
is attached to the end of the bolt.

6.4.9 Bends (Fig. 23 a – b)
The bends are connected to the guide rails using joint
connectors (Fig. 12).
The support brackets are mounted as described under
point 6.4.1-6.4.4. At least two support brackets must be
mounted per bend.
Then the bends are fixed in the support brackets as
described in point 6.4.5 and joined together with the joint
connectors as described under point 6.4.6.
Torque for the screw connection: M8 = 18 Nm

6.4.10 Junction (Fig. 24 a + b)
The guide rails are mounted at right angles under the ceiling
as previously described under point 6.4.5.
The junctions (Pos. 11) are mounted to the ends of the rails
with joint connectors as described under point 6.4.6.
Open junction connections that do not have rails connected
to them must be secured with a fixed catch that belongs to
the junction.
Torque for the screw connection: M8 = 18 Nm

6.3 Inspection prior to initial commissioning
Write down the results of this inspection and store them in a safe place.
An authorized specialist must carry out and document the inspections according to the inspection book.

8. Use, misuse and handling
7. Rescue
8.1 Authorized use
The anchorage system complies with the state of the art and also complies with the safety regulations applicable
when it was launched onto the market in the scope of its authorized use.
The design can prevent neither predictable misuse nor the residual dangers without restricting the authorized
functionality.
Information about potential dangers is provided via special warning notices either directly on the anchorage system
and / or in the technical documentation.
The anchorage system must be operated according to the specifications in the technical documentation.
Any non-authorized use or activities on the anchorage system not described in this manual are prohibited misuse
outside the statutory limits for liability of TRACTEL Greifzug GmbH.
8.2 Predictable misuse or handling
Your safety is guaranteed if the anchorage system is used according to the specifications in the technical
documentation. Any unauthorized use endangers your safety and must be avoided in all cases.
• Never anchor more than three persons on the anchorage system at the same time and always maintain
the minimum clearance to the impact area.
• Never use another anchorage device or similar element on the guide rail other than the original FABATM
anchorage device W3.
• Never test the anchorage system by having it fall on purpose.
• Never attempt to forcefully pull the anchorage device over an obstacle in the guide rail.
• Never use an anchorage system for which the last inspection was more than 12 months ago (date of the
last inspection).
• Never attach anything other than PPE against falls to the anchorage device
• Never use the anchorage system prior to training or when ill
• Never use vertically
• Never use in inclinations
• Never use without having clearance under the system
• Never use the anchorage system if you are pregnant
• Never use an anchorage system if the labelling is not fitted or is illegible.
• Never use PPE against falls that is not approved according to the EEC guideline 89/686/CE
• Never use the anchorage system if there is no rescue or emergency plan available
• Never use the anchorage system outside the permissible temperature ranges (-30°C and +60°C)
A rescue plan must always be drawn up before starting work. The rescue plan, which must be tailored with regard
to the respective working situation, must list the measures and the apparatus that will be used to ensure that, in
the event of an accident, the person is rescued within 15 minutes. The person's life will be endangered if rescue
operations last longer than this.

During transport and storage of the anchorage system, ensure that none of the components are damaged.
Damaged parts may only be replaced with new original parts.
The anchorage system must be checked every 24 months by means of an inspection book.
In event of faults during operation or falls, this inspection must be carried out before reusing the system. Damaged
parts may only be replaced with original parts.
