SAFETY
The printer has been tested for the connections and
intended purposes documented in these operating
instructions. It is your responsibility to perform the
necessary tests related to the methods and purposes of
its intended use. Observe the following safety measures.
CAUTION! The printer must only be used indoors
and never in hazardous areas.
• The electronics of the printer are protected
against splashing water and dust. However,
since the printer housing is not watertight, it
should not be used in the presence of liquids.
• Follow cleaning instructions on page 8.
Protect power plug against wet conditions.
• Never open the printer housing. If you have
any problems with your printer, contact Uline
Customer Service at 1-800-295-5510.
• If the equipment is used in a manner not
specified by the manufacturer, the protection
provided by the equipment may be impaired.
POWER SUPPLY
The printer is supplied with an AC adapter with a country-
specific power cable. The power supply is suitable for all
line voltages in the range: 100 – 240V AC, 50 – 60 Hz.

CAUTION! First, check the local line voltage is
in the range 100 – 240V AC, 50 – 60 Hz and
determine whether the power plug fits your
local power supply connection. If this is not the
case, do not connect the printer or the
AC adapter to the power supply. Contact Uline
Customer Service at 1-800-295-5510.
• Only plug adapter into a grounded socket.
WARNING! Before operating, check all cables
for damage.
• Guide the cables so that they are not damaged
or interfere during the weighing process.
• Make sure that the AC adapter cannot come
into contact with liquids.
• The power plug must always be accessible.
PRINTER SETUP
• Default printer settings are shown below. (See Figure 1)
There are two ways to change the default setting:
• Use accompanying software.
• Operate on the printer only.
PRINTER SETUP USING ACCOMPANYING SOFTWARE
1. Attach the interconnecting cable to the printer
interface on the computer and to the printer.
2. Connect printer to the main power supply.
3. Use the main switch <I/O> to power on.
4. Insert CD into the computer and install the printer
software.
5. Run the software and set up the RS-232 parameter of
computer, then click the Connect button.
(See Figure 2)
6. The following window will appear if connection is
successful. Click OK to continue. (See Figure 3)
7. The printer Menu setting is now activated and all
settings can be changed. (See Figure 4)
a. Date Time: Sets date and time for the printer.
• Keep Printer Time: Keep existing date and time
in the printer.
• Current System Time: Get date and time from
your computer.
• Custom: Set date and time manually.
b. Header: Sets the header of the printing content.
• No Header: No header for printing content.
• Date/Time: Header with date and time.
• Date/Time/Balance: Header with date, time
and S/N.
c. Date Format: Sets date format.
d. Time Format: Sets time format.
e. Char Set: Sets code page for different
languages.
• CP 1252 Windows Latin1: Covers Western
European languages such as English, German,
French, Spanish and Italian.
• CP 1251 Windows Cyrillic: Covers languages
that use the Cyrillic alphabet such as Russian,
Bulgarian and Serbian Cyrillic.

• CP437 MS-DOS Latin US: Covers Western
European languages such as English, German,
French, Spanish and Italian.
• CP852 MS-DOS Latin2: Covers Central
European languages that use Latin script such
as Polish Bosnian, Czech, Hungarian, Croatian,
Romanian, Serbian and Slovak.
• CP860 MS-DOS Portuguese: Covers Portuguese
language.
f. Balance Features:
1. Enable/Disable a function: 0/T, Statistics,
Totalization.
2. Printer connection status: LED light will either
blink or stay lit.
• Balance Feature Enabled: 0/T, Statistics
and Totalization functions are enabled. The
printer connection status LED light will blink
if the connection with balance is lost.
• Balance Feature Disable: 0/T, Statistics,
Totalization functions are disabled. The
printer connection status LED will be lit even
if the connection with balance is lost.
g. 0/T Setting: Set up the function of the 0/T button.
• Perform Zero: Perform Zero function when
pressing the button.
• Perform Tare: Perform Tare function when
pressing the button.
h. Baud rate, Data bits, Parity, Stop bits, Flow
Control: Set the parameters of RS-232 setting.
• Settings should be the same as the scale to
be connected. For the scale RS-232 settings,
please see scale manual.
Reset printer to factory default setting.
Get current setting from the printer.
Save the setting to the printer.
8. Click the Save Status button to save the setting and
click Exit to finish the setup.
PRINTER SETUP USING PRINTER ONLY
1. Connect the printer to the main power supply.
2. Use the main switch <I/O> to power on.
3. Press and hold the button to enter the menu list,
the printer will print "----------Menu-------".
• Press to choose which item to change.
• Press to change the parameter.
• Press and hold to save and exit.
• Press to exit without saving.
The printer will print the content to show the result of
every operation. See Operation for total menu structure.

INSTALLING THE PRINTER
CONNECTING THE PRINTER TO THE SCALE
Before connecting, make sure the scale and printer
have the same RS-232 parameter setting. For scale
Baud rate settings, see Recommended Settings on
pages 6 -7.
1. Attach interconnecting cable to the printer interface
of the scale and to the printer.
2. Switch the scale on.
SWITCHING THE PRINTER ON
1. Connect printer to the main power.
2. Use main switch <I/O> to power on. (See Figure 5)
3. RS-232 interface only: The pilot lamp will flash until
scale is connected. If pilot lamp continues to flash,
see Troubleshooting on pages 9-10.

INSERTING PAPER
1. Pull back of paper cover (1) to remove. (See FIgure 6)
2. Insert paper rotary axis through the core of the paper roll (2).
3. Feed paper through the slot in the printing unit in the direction
of the arrow (3).
4. Press and hold until enough paper has been fed (4).
5. Replace paper cover (1).

PRINTER TEST
The printer is equipped with a self-test that automatically prints out the character set (standard IBM/DOS).
• Starting the Test – Press the key and power on the printer. The printer prints out the current settings.
• Terminating the Test – Power off printer.

The SF40A printer is equipped with an RS-232C interface
to connect Ohaus scales. (See Figure 7)
• 9-pin male connector
• Matching to other devices (transmission parameters).

RS-232C INTERFACE
Under normal conditions, the printer requires practically
no maintenance. If servicing is required, contact Uline
Customer Service at 1-800-295-5510
CHANGING THE PAPER ROLL
Insertion of a new roll of paper is described in Inserting
Paper on page 4. (For paper roll order number, see
Consumables and Spare Parts on page 10)
NOTE: You may obtain the paper rotary axis
from the old paper roll.
REPLACING THE RIBBON
1. Remove the paper cover (1). (See Figure 8)
2. Pull paper out of printing unit (2)
3. To remove the ribbon cartridge, press in direction of
arrow (3). (See Figure 9)
4. Insert new ribbon, and if necessary, take up slack
with tensioning wheel (4).
NOTE: For the ribbon cartridge order number,
see Consumables and Spare Parts
on page 10.
NOTE: For insertion of a new roll of paper, see
Inserting Paper on page 4.
CLEANING
• Since the printer housing is made of top grade
materials, all commercially available mild cleaning
agents may be used. (See Safety Precautions on
pages 1-2)

SEGURIDAD
La impresora ha sido probada para las conexiones
y finalidad documentadas en estas instrucciones de
operación. Es su responsabilidad el llevar a cabo las
pruebas necesarias relacionadas con los métodos y
propósitos de su uso previsto. Observe las siguientes

¡PRECAUCIÓN! Se debe usar la impresora solo
en interiores y nunca en áreas peligrosas.

• Perform Zero (Puesta a Cero): Hace la función
de Puesta a Cero cuando se presiona el botón.
• Perform Tare (Realizar Tara): Hace la función
de Tara cuando se presiona el botón.
h. Baud rate, Data bits, Parity, Stop bits, Flow Control
(Velocidad de transmisión, Bits de datos, Paridad,
Bits de parada, Control de Flujo): Establece los
parámetros de la configuración RS-232.
• La configuración debe ser la misma que la
de la báscula para ser conectada. Para la
configuración RS-232 de la báscula, vea el
manual de la báscula.
Restablezca la impresora a la configuración
predeterminada de fábrica.
Tome la configuración actual de la impresora.
Guarde la configuración en la impresora.
8. Haga clic en el botón "Save Status" para guardar la
configuración y clic en "Exit" para terminar el ajuste.
CONFIGURACIÓN DE LA IMPRESORA USANDO
SOLO LA IMPRESORA
1. Conecte la impresora al suministro de energía principal.
2. Use el interruptor principal <I/O> para encenderla.
3. Presione y mantenga el botón para ingresar a la
lista del menú, la impresora imprimirá "----------Menú-------".
• Presione para elegir cuál artículo cambiar.
• Presione para cambiar el parámetro.
• Presione y mantenga para guardar y salir.
• Presione para salir sin guardar.
La impresora imprimirá el contenido para mostrar el
resultado de cada operación. Vea Funcionamiento
para la estructura total del menú. (Vea páginas 16-19)
INSTALAR LA IMPRESORA
CONECTAR LA IMPRESORA A LA BÁSCULA
Antes de proceder, asegúrese de que la báscula y la
impresora tengan la misma configuración de parámetros
RS-232. Para la configuración de la velocidad de transmisión,
vea Configuración Recomendada en las páginas 17-18.
1. Acople el cable de interconexión a la interfaz de la
báscula y la impresora.
2. Encienda la báscula.
ENCENDER LA IMPRESORA
1. Conecte la impresora al suministro de energía principal.
2. Use el interruptor principal <I/O> para encenderla.

3. Solo interfaz RS-232: La luz del piloto parpadeará
hasta que la báscula esté conectada. Si la luz del
piloto sigue parpadeando, vea la Solución de

INSERTAR PAPEL
1. Tire de la parte posterior de la cubierta del papel (1) para retirar.
(Vea Diagrama 6)
2. Inserte el eje de rotación del papel por el núcleo del rollo de papel (2).
3. Alimente el papel a través de la ranura en la unidad de impresión
en dirección de la flecha (3).
4. Presione y sostenga hasta que haya alimentado suficiente papel (4).
5. Vuelva a colocar la cubierta del papel (1).
PRUEBA DE LA IMPRESORA
La impresora está equipada con una autoprueba que automáticamente imprime el set de caracteres (IBM/DOS estándar).
• Comienzo de la Prueba – Presione la tecla y encienda la impresora. La máquina imprime la configuración actual.
• Final de la Prueba – Apague la impresora.

INTERFAZ RS-232C
Bajo condiciones normales, la impresora prácticamente
no requiere mantenimiento. Si requiere servicio,
comuníquese con Servicio a Clientes de Uline al
800-295-5510.
CAMBIAR EL ROLLO DE PAPEL
Se describe cómo insertar un nuevo rollo de papel
en la sección Insertar Papel en la página 15. (Para el
número de orden del rollo de papel, vea Consumibles
y Partes de Repuesto en la página 21)
NOTA: Podría tomar el eje de rotación del
papel del rollo anterior.
REEMPLAZAR LA CINTA
1. Retire la cubierta del papel (1). (Vea Diagrama 8)
2. Saque el papel de la unidad de impresión (2)
3. Para retirar el cartucho de la cinta, presione en
dirección de la flecha (3). (Vea Diagrama 9)
4. Inserte la nueva cinta, y si es necesario, afloje con
la rueda de tensión (4).

vea Consumibles y Partes de Repuesto en la
página 21)
NOTA: Para insertar un nuevo rollo de papel,

LIMPIEZA
• Ya que la cubierta de la impresora está hecha
de materiales de alta calidad, se pueden utilizar
todos los limpiadores suaves comerciales. (Vea
