Introduction
Thismanualcovers theoperationofinternalcom-
bustionpoweredmodelsoftheSB60Boom.
Pre-Operation and Safety
Inspection
Carefullyread,understandand followallsafety
rules,labels,andoperatinginstructions,then
performthefollowingstepseachdaybeforeuse.
Perform acompletevisualinspectionoftheentire
unitpriortooperating.Checkthefollowingareasfor
discrepancies:
1.Open panelsand check hydraulic components /
hoses for damage orleaks. Check electrical compo-
nents/wiring for damage orloose connections.
2.Inspectchassis,axles,hubs,andsteeringlinkage
fordamage,deformation,buckledpaint, looseor
missinghardware,andcrackedwelds.
3.Checktiresfordamage,punctures, and inflation;
tirepressuremustbe80psi(5.5bar)
4.Checkallhoses/cablesforwear.
5.Inspectelevatingassemblyfordamage,defor-
mation,buckledpaint,looseormissing
hardware,andcrackedwelds.
6.Inspectplatform andguardrailsfordamage,
deformation,buckledpaint,looseormissing
hardware,andcrackedwelds.Insurethatgate
operatesfreelyand latchessecurely.
7.Check Hydraulicfluidlevel withplatformfully lowered.
8.Checkfluidlevelin batteries(seebatterymain-
tenance,page2-8).
9.Checkfuel level,add fuel if necessary(see
fueling,page 2-8).
10.Checkengine oillevel.
11.Checkairfilter.Replaceifnecessary.
12.Setgasoline/propaneselectorto desired position.
Settocenterpositionto purgethesystemwhen
switchingfuels.Ifthemachineistobeoperated
on propane, open the supply valveon the tank.
NOTE:When usingLP gas,use clean,waterfree
liquid petroleumgas,preferablyfromabulk
storagetank.
NEVERremovethecapfromahotradiator.
Hotcoolantcancausesevereburns.
Ifyousmellpropane,closethesupplyvalve
onthetankimmediatelyuntilyouhave
locatedandcorrectedtheleak.
SYSTEMFUNCTIONINSPECTION
Note:Refertofigures 2-2through2-5for
chassisandplatformcontrollocations.
1.Beforeperformingthefollowingtests, check
areaaroundmachineand overheadforobstruc-
tions, holes, drop-offs,anddebris.
2.Turnchassiskeyswitchtochassis, and pullout
emergencystopswitchesatthechassiscontrol
panelandattheplatformcontrolpanel.
3.Retractlockingbolt.Seefigure2-1.
4.Presstheenginestartbuttontocranktheen-
gine;releasewhenengine starts.Ifengineis
cold:presstheglowplugbuttonandholdforsix
secondspriortostartingdieselmodels.
5.Pushinthechassisemergencystopbutton,
engineshouldstop. Repeatforplatformemer-
gencystop button.Returnbothemergencystop
buttonstotheon
position,andstartengine.
6.Operateeachfunctionswitchtoraise/lower,
extend/retract,rotateleft/right,eachsectionof
theelevatingassemblyandobservetheopera-
tionofthemachine.Allfunctionsshouldoperate
throughfullcyclesmoothly.
7.Turnchassiskeyswitchtoplatform.
8.Mounttheplatform,andattachapprovedfall
restrainttodesignatedplatformanchorage point.
Attachonly one fallrestrainttoeach point.
9.Whileengagingthehand interlock,movethe
drivecontrolhandleforwardand reverse.
Observethat proportionalfunctionsoperate
smoothly,andthatbrakesapplyquicklyafter
controlisreleased.
10.Whileengagingthehandinterlock,operatesteer
switchtoleft
andright.Observethatsteering
wheelsturnproperly.
