PURPOSE
Thepurposeofthisserviceandpartsmanualisto
provideinstructionsandillustrationsfortheoperation
andmaintenanceoftheSB60WorkPlatformmanufac-
turedbyUpRight,Inc.ofSelma,California.
SCOPE
Themanualincludesproceduresforproperoperation,
maintenance,adjustment,andrepairofthisproductaswellas
recommendedmaintenanceschedulesandtroubleshooting.
1.1 General Description
TheSB60WorkPlatformconsistsoftheplatform,
controller,elevatingassembly,powermodule,control
module,andchassis.
Platform
Theplatformhasareinforcedsteelfloor,43.5inch(1.11m)
highguardrailswithmidrail,6inch(152mm)toeboards
andanentrancegateatthesideoftheplatform.
DONOTusethemaintenanceplatform
withoutguardrailsproperlyassembledand
inplace.
Platform Controller
Theplatformcontrollercontainsthecontrolstooperate
themachine. It is located at the frontof theplatform
cage.Thefootswitchmustbedepressedtooperateany
functionfrom theplatform. A completeexplanation of
controlfunctionscanbefoundin
Section2 .
Elevating Assembly
Thehydraulicpump,drivenbytheengine,powersthe
cylinders.Solenoidoperatedvalvescontrolraisingand
lowering.
Chassis
Thechassisisastructuralframethatsupportsallthe
componentsoftheSB60WorkPlatform.ThePlatformis
raisedandloweredusinganextendableboomwithjib.
Boomfunctions,Jibfunctions,CageRotateandLeveling
areachievedusingsinglestagecylinders.
Turret
TheTurretismountedontheChassis.Itsupportsthe
ElevatingAssembly,PowerModuleandControlModule.
TheTurretiscapableofrotating360°ontheChassis.
PURPOSE OF EQUIPMENT
TheobjectiveoftheSB60WorkPlatformistoprovidea
quicklydeployable,selfpropelled,variableheightwork
platformtoelevatepersonnelandmaterialstooverhead
workareas.
SPECIAL LIMITATIONS
Travelwiththeplatformraisedislimitedtoacreep
speedrange.
ElevatingoftheWorkPlatformislimitedtofirm,level
surfacesonly. Anydegreeofslopegreaterthan5owill
soundawarningalarmwhenmachineiselevated.If
machine is lowered, a light will illuminate on platform
controlbox.
TheelevatingfunctionshallONLYbeused
when the work platform is level and on a
firmsurface.TheworkplatformisNOT
intendedtobedrivenoveruneven,rough
orsoftterrainwhenelevated.

Pre-Operation and Safety
Inspection
Carefullyread,understandand followallsafety
rules,labels,andoperatinginstructions,then
performthefollowingstepseachdaybeforeuse.
Perform acompletevisualinspectionoftheentire
unitpriortooperating.Checkthefollowingareasfor
discrepancies:
1.Open panelsand check hydraulic components /
hoses for damage orleaks. Check electrical compo-
nents/wiring for damage orloose connections.
2.Inspectchassis,axles,hubs,andsteeringlinkage
fordamage,deformation,buckledpaint, looseor
missinghardware,andcrackedwelds.
3.Checktiresfordamage,punctures, and inflation;
tirepressuremustbe80psi(5.5bar)
4.Checkallhoses/cablesforwear.
5.Inspectelevatingassemblyfordamage,defor-
mation,buckledpaint,looseormissing
hardware,andcrackedwelds.
6.Inspectplatform andguardrailsfordamage,
deformation,buckledpaint,looseormissing
hardware,andcrackedwelds.Insurethatgate
operatesfreelyand latchessecurely.
7.Check Hydraulicfluidlevel withplatformfully lowered.
8.Checkfluidlevelin batteries(seebatterymain-
tenance,page2-8).
9.Checkfuel level,add fuel if necessary(see
fueling,page 2-8).
10.Checkengine oillevel.
11.Checkairfilter.Replaceifnecessary.
12.Setgasoline/propaneselectorto desired position.
Settocenterpositionto purgethesystemwhen
switchingfuels.Ifthemachineistobeoperated
on propane, open the supply valveon the tank.
NOTE:When usingLP gas,use clean,waterfree
liquid petroleumgas,preferablyfromabulk
storagetank.
NEVERremovethecapfromahotradiator.
Hotcoolantcancausesevereburns.
Ifyousmellpropane,closethesupplyvalve
onthetankimmediatelyuntilyouhave
locatedandcorrectedtheleak.

tions, holes, drop-offs,anddebris.
2.Turnchassiskeyswitchtochassis, and pullout
emergencystopswitchesatthechassiscontrol
panelandattheplatformcontrolpanel.
3.Retractlockingbolt.Seefigure2-1.
4.Presstheenginestartbuttontocranktheen-
gine;releasewhenengine starts.Ifengineis
cold:presstheglowplugbuttonandholdforsix
secondspriortostartingdieselmodels.
5.Pushinthechassisemergencystopbutton,
engineshouldstop. Repeatforplatformemer-
gencystop button.Returnbothemergencystop
buttonstotheon position,andstartengine.
6.Operateeachfunctionswitchtoraise/lower,
extend/retract,rotateleft/right,eachsectionof
theelevatingassemblyandobservetheopera-
tionofthemachine.Allfunctionsshouldoperate
throughfullcyclesmoothly.
7.Turnchassiskeyswitchtoplatform.
8.Mounttheplatform,andattachapprovedfall
restrainttodesignatedplatformanchorage point.
Attachonly one fallrestrainttoeach point.
9.Whileengagingthehand interlock,movethe
drivecontrolhandleforwardand reverse.
Observethat proportionalfunctionsoperate
smoothly,andthatbrakesapplyquicklyafter
controlisreleased.
10.Whileengagingthehandinterlock,operatesteer
switchtoleft andright.Observethatsteering
wheelsturnproperly.

colorcoded arrowsonthecontrol panelnearthe

operationofthemachine.
Workareaisclearofallobstructions,holes,

Surfaceiscapable of supporting wheel loads.

EmergencyStop
Atanytimeduringoperation,presstheemergency
stopbuttontostopallfunctionsinanemergency.

Steering
1.Whileengagingthehandinterlock,pushthe
steering switch (locatedontopofthecontrol
handle)totheleft toturnleft, and right toturn
right.
Note:Steeringisnotselfcentering.Wheels
mustbereturnedto thestraightaheadposition
byoperatingthesteeringswitch.
POSITIONING THEPLATFORM
Positioningtheplatformascloseaspossibletothe
workarearequiressomeplanning.First, youmust
surveythe worksitetofind asuitableplacetopark
themachine.Thismustbeafirmlevelarea asclose
aspossibletothework area.Takeintoconsider-
ationallobstructionson thegroundandoverhead
andavoidthem.
Always,beforeoperatinganyfunction,checkthe
areaaroundandoverheadforanyobstructionsor
electricalconductors.
NEVER exittheplatform whiletheboomis
elevated.Keepbothfeetfirmlyonplatform
flooratall times. Donotuseplanks,ladders,
oranyotherdeviceontheplatformfor
achievingadditionalheightorreach.
MultifunctionControls
TheUpRightSB60employstheuseofmultifunction
controls.Thismeansthat anytwofunctionscan
operateat fullspeedsimultaneously.
Theturretmayberotatedwhiledrivingifnecessary
tomaketurnsintightareas.Allotherboomfunc-
tionswill notoperatewhile driving.
LowerControlOperation
Allboomfunctionswilloperateatfixedspeed.
1.Turnchassiskeyswitchtochassiscontrols.
2.Withenginerunning,operateboomcontrol
switchestopositiontheplatform.
Leveling thePlatform
DONOToperatethemachineifthe
platformdoesnotmaintainlevelwhen
elevated.
Note:Platformlevelingcan beperformedonly
withtheboomstowedandshould bedoneonly
tocalibratetheautomaticlevelingsystem.
Whiledepressingthefootswitch, movethe
platformlevelcontrolswitchforwardtoswing
theplatform upward,rearwardtoswingthe
platformdownward.Releasetheswitchtostop
leveling.Levelingcanbeperformedonlywhen
boomisstowedandretracted.
Rotating theTurret
Whiledepressingthefootswitch, movethe
boomrotationjoysticktotherighttorotateright,
lefttorotateleft.Releasetheswitchtostop
rotation.Theturretrotationwillfunctionata
speedproportionaltothe strokeofthejoystick.
Makesuretheareaaroundtheboomisclearof
allobstructionsbeforerotatingtheturret.
ElevatingtheBoom
While depressingthefootswitch,move the
joystick forwardto elevatetheboom,rearward to
lowertheboom.Releasethecontrol levertostop
elevating/lowering.The boomelevatewillfunction
ataspeedproportionalto thestrokeofthejoy-
stick.
Extendingthe Boom
Whiledepressingthefootswitch, movethe
boomextensioncontroljoystickrearwardto
extendtheboom,forwardtoretract theboom.
Releasethecontrollevertostopextending/
retracting.Theboomextensionwillfunctionata
speed,proportionaltothestrokeofthejoystick.

1.Insurethattheplatform isfullylowered,andthat
theturretisrotatedsothattheplatformistothe
rearofthemachine.
2.Refertofigure2-7anddisengageallfourdrive
hubs.Removetwo(2)screwsandcentercap.
Reinstallcentercapintheopposite direction.
Chockwheelsbeforedisengaginghubs.
Machinemayroll.
3.Whenreadytomovethemachine,removethe
chocks.Toworwinchintopositionandreplace
chocks.
4.Attachadequatechain/cableofsufficient
strengthfortowingthemachinetothefrontor
reartiedownlugs.
5.Engageallfourdrivehubsbyreturningthe
centercapstotheiroriginalorientation.
Transportation
ElevatingtheJib
Whiledepressingthefootswitch,pushthejib
controlswitchforwardtoelevatethejib,rearward
tolowerthe jib.Releasethecontrollevertostop
elevating/lowering.
Rotating thePlatform
Whiledepressingthefootswitch,togglethe
controlswitchlefttorotateleft,righttorotate
right.Releasethe switchtostoprotation.
EMERGENCYOPERATION
Intheeventofanenginefailure,theelevating
assemblymaybelowered usingthefollowing
procedure.
NEVER climbdowntheelevatingassembly.
Ifcontrolsdonotrespond,followtheemer-
gencylowering procedure.
LoweringElevatingAssembly
1.Engagethe auxiliary powerunitswitch.
2.Operateany boomfunction inthenormalmanner.
Note:Auxiliarybatteryiscapableofoneemergency
loweringcycle beforerequiringrecharge.Battery
isrechargedwhileengineisinoperation.
EMERGENCYTOWING
DONOTtowthemachinefasterthan3mph.
Fasterspeedswill damage drivecomponents
andvoidwarranty.
Therearenobrakeswhenthecentercaps
areinstalledintheinvertedposition.
Perform thefollowingonlywhenthemachinewill
notoperateunderitsownpowerandit isnecessary
tomovethemachineorwhen winchingontoatrailer
fortransportation.
AFTER USEEACH DAY
1.Ensurethattheplatformisfullylowered.
2.Parkthemachineon levelground,preferably
undercover,secureagainstvandals,childrenor
unauthorized operation.
3.Turnthe keyswitchto OFF andremovethekey

Thecompleteinspectionconsistsofperiodicvisualand
operationalchecks,togetherwithallnecessaryminor
adjustmentstoassureproperperformance. Daily
inspectionwillpreventabnormalwearandprolongthe
lifeofallsystems. Theinspectionandmaintenance
scheduleistobeperformedatregularintervals. Inspec-
tionandmaintenanceshallbeperformedbypersonnel
whoaretrainedand familiar with mechanicaland
electricalprocedures.
Beforeperformingpreventativemainte-
nance,familiarizeyourselfwiththeopera-
tion of the machine.
Alwaysblocktheelevatingassemblywhen-
everitisnecessarytoperformmaintenance
whiletheplatformiselevated.

BATTERY INSPECTION AND
CLEANING
Checkbatteryfluidleveldaily,especiallyifworkplat-

batterylife.
Thebatteryshouldbeinspectedregularlyforsignsof
cracksinthecase,electrolyteleakageandcorrosionof
theterminals.Inspectcablesforwornspotsorbreaksin
theinsulationandforbrokencableterminals.
Cleanthebatteywhenitshowssignsofcorrosionatthe
terminalsorwhenelectrolytehasoverflowedduring
charging.Useabakingsodasolutiontocleanthe
batteries,takingcarenottogetthesolutioninsidethe
cells.Rinsethoroughlywithcleanwater.Cleanbattery
andcablecontactsurfacestoabrightmetalfinish
wheneveracableisremoved.

1. Check the fluid level. If the electrolyte level is lower

distilledwateronly.
2. Connectthechargerplugtoaproperlygrounded
outletofthepropervoltageandfrequency.
3. Usea chargerwhichturnsoffautomaticallywhen
thebatteriesarefullycharged.

GREASE FITTINGS
Wipeeachgreasefittingbeforeandaftergreasing.
Usingmultipurposegreaseinagreasegun,pumpthe
greaseintothefittinguntilgreasejustbeginstoappear
attheedgesofthepivot,wipeoffanyexcessgrease.
HYDRAULIC OIL AND FILTER
Fluid Level
With the platform fully lowered, check oil level on sight
gauge.IftheoilisNOTinoperatingrange,addhydrau-
lic fluid until oil is visible in operating range on dipstick
orvisibleinsightgauge.DONOTfillaboveoperating
rangeorwhentheplatformiselevated.
Oil and Filter Replacement
1. Operate the platform for 10-15 minutes to bring the
hydraulicoiluptonormaloperatingtemperature.

The hydraulic oil may be hot enough to
causeburns.Wearsafetyglovesandsafety
glasseswhenhandlinghotoil.
2. Provideasuitablecontainertocatchthedrained
oil.
3. Remove the drain plug and allow all oil to drain into
thecontainer.Besuretodisposeofoilproperly.
4. Reinstallthedrainplug.
5. Removefilterelementfromfilterhead(located
besidevalveblock).
6. Apply a thin film of clean hydraulic oil (ISO No. 46)
tothegasketofthereplacementfilter.
7. Threadreplacementfilter onto thefilterhead until
thegasketmakescontactthenrotate3/4ofaturn
further.
8. Fillthehydraulicoiltanktooperatinglevelonsight
gauge with ISO #46 hydraulic oil.
