1.1Function
This operating instructions manual has all the information you
need for quick mounting and setup of a replacement module.
Please read this manual before you start setup.
1.2Target group
This operating instructions manual is directed to trained,
qualified personnel.The contents of this manual should be
made available to these personnel and put into practice by
them.

2.1Authorised personnel
All operations described in this operating instructions manual
must be carried out only by trained specialist personnel
authorised by the operator.
During work on and with the device the required personal
protection equipment must always be worn.
2.2Appropriate use
Oscillator,emitting electronics,housing or process compo-
nents are replacement components for existing sensors.
2.3Safety instructions for Ex areas
Please note the Ex-specific safety information for installation
and operation in Ex areas.These safety instructions are part of
the operating instructions manual and come with the Ex-
approved instruments.
2.4Environmental instructions
Protection of the environment is one of our most important
duties.That is why we have introduced an environment
management system with the goal of continuously improving
company environmental protection.The environment man-
agement system is certified according to DIN EN ISO 14001.

3Product description
3.1Configuration
The scope of delivery encompasses:
lEmitting electronics
l4pcs.Torx screws size 15 (with version A)
lDocumentation
-this operating instructions manual
The emitting electronics is available in three versions suitable
to the respective mechanical version of VEGASON 64,65 and
66:
lFor version A(compact with flange)
lFor version B(with swivelling holder)
lFor versions Cand D(separate with swivelling holder or
thread)

3.2Principle of operation
The emitting electronics VEGASON 64,65,66 is suitable as
replacement unit for VEGASON 64,65 and 66 ultrasonic
sensors.It is located between sensor housing and transducer.
With version A,the emitting electronics is mounted directly to
the flange adapter,with version Bto the transducer tube.With
version Cand D,it is mounted separately and connected via a
connection cable to the transducer.

3.3Packaging,transport and storage
Your instrument was protected by packaging during transport.
Its capacity to handle normal loads during transport is assured
by a test according to DIN EN 24180.
The packaging of standard instruments consists of environ-
ment-friendly,recyclable cardboard.For special versions,PE
foam or PE foil is also used.Dispose of the packaging material
via specialised recycling companies.
Transport must be carried out under consideration of the notes
on the transport packaging.Nonobservance of these instruc-
tions can cause damage to the device.
The delivery must be checked for completeness and possible
transit damage immediately at receipt.Ascertained transit
damage or concealed defects must be appropriately dealt
with.
Up to the time of installation the packaging must be closed and
stored according to the orientation and storage markings on
the outside.
Unless otherwise indicated,the packaging must be stored only
under the following conditions:
lNot in the open
lDry and dust free
lNot exposed to corrosive media
lProtected against solar radiation
lAvoiding mechanical shock and vibration
lStorage and transport temperature see "Supplement -
Technical data -Ambient conditions"
lRelative humidity 20 …85 %

4Mounting
4.1General instructions
If the emitting electronics is defective,it can be replaced by the
user.
If there is no emitting electronics available on site,it can be
ordered from the VEGA agency serving you.
The emitting electronics are suitable for all VEGASON 64,65
and 66 in the appropriate mechanical version.First of all check
by means of the following overview if you have the suitable
electronics module.

Electronics module SN-SE.64Cis suitable for VEGASON 64,
65,66 version Cand D.
The following tools are required for dismounting and subse-
quent re-mounting of the emitting electronics:
lmagnetic Phillips screwdriver size 1
lmagnetic Phillips head size x
lSlotted screwdriver 4mm (only with stainless steel and Alu
double chamber housing)
lpliers for locking ring (version axle)
lTorx key T15 (only with version A).
lhexagon spanner size 4(only with version b).
4.3Dismounting steps for all versions
First of all the electronics module is dismounted and the
existing housing removed.
The electronics module is located in the electronics compart-
ment.The below illustrations show the respective position of
the electronics compartment in a single or double chamber
housing.

1Switch offpower supply
2Remove the housing cover from the electronics compart-
ment,or from the connection compartment of the Alu
double chamber housing,as the case may be
3Disconnect the connection cables according to the
operating instructions manual of the respective sensor
4Loosen the two holding screws with a screwdriver (Torx
size T10 or slot size 2)

5Pull the electronics out by holding the opening levers.
Proceed as follows:
1Loosen the screws of the check angle and the locking ring
with a Phillips screwdriver size 1

4.4Mounting steps version A
Danger:
Individual wires of the transducer cable have a voltage of
approx.70 Vduring operation (see chapter "Mounting
preparations"). There is danger of electric shocks!Carry out
the mounting steps only in the complete absence of line
voltage.

Proceed as follows:
1Loosen the Torx screws on the housing socket with the
suitable key T15
2Remove the previous emitting electronics from the flange
adapter

3Remove the plug connector to the transducer on the lower
side of the emitting electronics,therefore press the lug
Warning:
Idle condition must be provided before separating the
transducer cable.Non-observance will cause damage of the
electronics!
Proceed as follows:
1Plug the new emitting electronics to the plug connector

Danger:

therefore press the lug
Warning:

1Pull the plug out of the instrument housing of the new
emitting electronics and insert it in the socket on the
transducer tube

tube.Do not squeeze any cables.The housing is in the
correct position,if the lower notch (2)of the transducer
tube is no longer visible.

4.6Mounting steps version C/D
Danger:
The individual wires of the transducer cable have a voltage of
approx.70 Vduring operation (see chapter "Mounting
preparations"). There is danger of electric shocks!Carry out
the mounting steps only in the complete absence of line
voltage.
Warning:
Idle condition must be provided before separating the
transducer cable.Non-observance will cause damage of the
electronics!
Proceed as follows:

4.7Mounting steps for all versions
1Place the housing back on.
2With Aluminium double chamber or stainless steel housing
tighten the locking screw on the socket with a screwdriver
3Tighten the screws of the limit angle and the locking ring
with a Phillips screwdriver size x
4Insert the locking ring with the pliers
5Insert the electronics carefully.Make sure that the plug is in
the correct position.The notch must be in position "6.00
o'clock".

8Screw the housing cover back on
The emitting electronics is exchanged.
As a rule,the exchange of the emitting electronics must be
documented internally when used in Ex applications.

manual of the respective sensor.

6.1Instrument repair

You can download a return form (23 KB)from the Internet on

and certificates -Repair form".
By doing this you help us carry out the repair quickly and
without having to call for needed information.
lPrint and fill out one form per instrument
lClean the instrument and pack it damage-proof
lAttach the completed form and,if need be,also a safety
data sheet outside on the packaging
lPlease ask the agency serving you for the address of your

7Dismounting
7.1Dismounting steps
Take note of chapters "Mounting"and "Connecting to power
supply"and carry out the listed steps in reverse order.
7.2Disposal
The replacement module consists of materials which can
recycled by specialised recycling companies.We have
purposely designed the electronic modules to be easily
separable.
WEEE directive 2002/96/EG
This instrument is not subject to the WEEE directive 2002/96/
EG and the respective national laws (in Germany,e.g.
ElektroG). Pass the instrument directly on to a specialised
recycling company and do not use the municipal collecting
points.These may be used only for privately used products
according to the WEEE directive.
Correct disposal avoids negative effects to persons and
environment and ensures recycling of useful raw materials.
