INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION
STEP 33 Bumper re-installation
Summary of Update Procedure
Remove and discard the 2 center Bumper Spoiler bolts
remove & save associated j-clip nuts
Replace bolts with a low profile M6 cap head, Ford
Standard Part W711581S450B.
Insert from topside
Re-install j-clip nuts on to Spoiler
This improves winch roll winding by allowing the winch
rope to pass freely over the spoiler bolt.
Image shows spoiler bolts as installed relative to the winch rope spool.

End Step 4) Bolt Replacement image W711581S450B or like standard M6 bolt with chassis head
to allow the rope to freely pass over the head

This winch has 12,000LBS of pull strength
Improper line rope stowage will cause damage to the vehicle, winch and winch
mounting brackets.
✓Power-in the remaining slack in the winch rope by “pulsing” the power-in button on the
remote until there is minimal slack between hook and fairlead.
Do not power the hook into the fairlead.
×Do not continue to power-in winch after rope first becomes taut.
✓Stow to ‘Passenger-side’ tow hook only

2. Disconnect the battery cable to ground. Please follow the Workshop Manual (WSM) procedures in
section 414-01.
NOTICE:
Negative cables must be disconnected from the batteries to interrupt the vehicles electrical
system power. Failure to disconnect both of the negative battery cables may cause vehicle
damage.
3. Remove the air cleaner. Please follow the WSM procedures in section 303-12.
4. If equipped, release the retaining clips and remove the front license plate mounting bracket.
5. Remove the front bumper. Please follow the WSM procedures in section 501-19.
• Place the front bumper on a workbench covered with a non-marring surface.

7. If equipped, remove the studs from the front side of the cruise control module bracket.
NOTE:
Save the top cruise control mounting stud for installation.

6. Position aside the wire harness. Remove and discard the 6 retainers and the bumper center support.

9. Remove and discard the retainers and the bumper opening trim.

8. If equipped, remove and discard the retainers and the cruise control module bracket.

11. Install the Y bracket and the oblique bracket using four washers, two 3/8 in (9.52 mm) bolts and
nuts.
• Leave retainers loose at this time.
NOTE:
Ensure to align the Y bracket and oblique bracket using the curve as a focus point and the Y
bracket tang facing downwards.

10. Remove the inboard retainers from the vehicle frame.

12. Install the center mounting bracket to the Y bracket using four washers, two 7/16 in (11.11 mm)
carriage bolts and two nuts.
• Leave the retainers loose at this time.

13. Install the end mounting brackets to the left hand (LH) and right hand (RH) inboard sides of the
vehicle frame and to the center mounting bracket, using three 1/2 in (12.7 mm) bolts, six washers,
and three nuts per side.
• Leave the retainers loose at this time.
NOTE:
Use the curvature on the end mounting bracket and the vehicle frame to aid in the alignment of
the end mounting brackets.

14. Install the 1/2 in ( 12.7 mm) bolts, four washers, and two nuts through the end mounting bracket and
center mounting bracket on both RH and LH sides.
• Leave the retainers loose at this time.

15. Tighten the LH and RH end mounting bracket retainers to the vehicle frame.
• Torque: 75 lb.ft. (101.7 Nm).

16. Tighten the LH and RH end mounting brackets to the center mounting bracket.
• Torque: 50 lb.ft. (67.8 Nm).

17. Install the four rectangle nuts into the winch with the non-chamfered edge of the nut to face
outward. A small piece of tape can be used to cover the opening to prevent the nuts from falling out
during assembly.
NOTE:
The bolt hole will not align if the rectangle nut is not installed properly.

19. Install the four M10 (.393 in) winch retaining bolts.
• Leave the retainers loose at this time.

Winch shown from the back side off of the vehicle for clarity.

18. Align the winch to the center mounting bracket.

20. Tighten the center mounting bracket to the Y bracket retainers.
• Torque: 50 lb.ft. (67.8 Nm).

22. Tighten the winch retaining bolts.
• Torque: 45 lb.ft. (61 Nm).
NOTE:
Winch shown from the back side off of the vehicle for clarity.

21. Tighten the oblique bracket and Y bracket retainers.
• Torque: 30 lb.ft. (40.7 Nm).
NOTE:
Center mounting bracket and winch removed for clarity.

23. Assemble the winch control pack assembly to the winch control pack assembly bracket with two
M6 (.236 in) nuts and two flat washers.
• Torque: 35 lb.in. (2.9 Nm).
NOTE:
Assembled control pack and bracket will not be secured until the bumper is installed.
