SWITCHES
The opfion switches on the 50A55-84i] control are used to
determlnethe length
ofthecooldelay-to-fan-off,
heatdelay-to-
fan-on and heat delay-to-fan-off
periods.The followingtable
showsthe time periods
thatwill resultfrom the variousswitch
positions.

HEATMODE
In a typixl system, a call for heat is initiatedby closingthe
thermostat contacts. This starts the 5OA55confol's heatng
sequence. The inducer blower and optional humidifier are
energized
andthe lgnitoris powered
withinonesecond.
Thiscontrollerhasanadaptive
algorithmthatadjuststhedura-
tion of the ignitorwarm-up,to extend ignitorlife. Upon initial
applicationof power, the warm-up time is 17 seconds.The
ignitor
on-timewillthen be increasedor decreaseddepending
onwhetherornotflameis
achieved.Thewarm-uptime
islimited
to a maxlmum of 21 seconds. During the first 64 warm-up
periods
following
power-up,
thewarm-uptimemay notbe less
than 17seconds.
Upon
acallforheat,ifthewarm-uptimehasnotbeenlocked,
il
willbedecreased
byonesecond.Thisreduction
oftheignitoron-
timewillcontinue
until
flamelailstobeachieved
(resulting
ina
retry).
lntheeventofaretry,
thewarm-uptime
willbeincreased
bytwo
secondsandlockedinatthatduration.
Once
thewarm-uptime
is locked,
it remainsfixeduntilanother
callfor heatresultsina
retry,inwhichcasethewarm-up
timeisagain
increased
bytwo
seconds
and remains
locked.
Intheeventoftwosuccessiveretry
attempts,thewarm-up
time
will
beunlockedand
set
to21seconds.lfflameisthen
achieved,
thewarm-uptimewillbegin
adaptingagainwiththenext
callfor
heat.lf, however,this third attemptfailsto achieveflame,the
controlwill go intosystemlockout.
At the endof the ignitor
warm-uptime, bothvalvesinthe 36E
manifold
gasvalveareopened.
Flamemustbedetectedwithin
4 seconds.
lfflameisdetected,thedelay-to-fan-on
period
begins.Afterthe
delay-to-fan-on
period
ends,the optionalelectronicaircleaner
isenergizedandthe circulator
fan is energizedat heatspeed.
Whenthethermostatissatisfied,
thegasvalveisde-energized.
After
proof
offlameloss,theheat
delay-tofan-offperiod
begins
andtheinducer
blowerremainsenergizedto purge
thesystem
for15seconds.Whenthe
purge
is
complete,
theinducer
blower
and humidifierarede-energized.Afterthe delay-to-fan-off
pe-
riodends,the clrculator
fan and electronicair cleanerare de-
energized.
lfflameisnot
detected,bothvalvesarede-energized,theignitor
is turned off, and the 50A55 control goes into the "ret4f se-
quence.
The
"retq/ sequence
provides

ignition
attempt
(flame
notdetected).After
thiswait,the ignitionsequenceisrestartedwithan additional2
seconds of ignitor warm-up time. lf this ignition attempt is
unsuccessful,one more retrywill be made beforethe control
goesintosystemlockout.
lfflameisdetected,thenlost,the50455 control
willrepeat
the
initialignition
sequence
for a totalol four"recycles".
Afterfour
unsuccessful
"recycle"
attempts,
the
control
will
gointo
system
lockout.
lf flame isestablished
for moretlmn 10secondsafterignition,
the 50A55 controllerwrll dear the rgnitirn attempt (or retry)
countef.
lfflameislostafter'10
seconds,
rtwrllrestartthe
Onition
sequence. This can occur a maximum of five times before
systemlockout.
During bumer operation,a momentaryloss of power of 50
millisecondsor longer will de-energizethe main gas valve.
Whenpower
isrestored,thegas
valvewlllremain
de-energized
anda restartofthe ignitionsequence
will beginimmediately.
A momentaryloss
of
gas
supply,
flame
blowout,orashortedor
open
conditionintheflame
probe
circuitwillbesensedwthin 2.0
secpnds. The gas valve will de'energlze and the confol wrll
restart
theignition
sequen@.
Recydeswill
@in andthebumer
will operate normally if the gas supply retums, or the fault
conditionis corrected,beforethe last ignitionattempt.Other-
wise,thecontrolwillgo intosystemlockout.
lfthecontrolhas
goneinto
system
lockout,
itmaybepossible
to
reset the control by a momentarypower intenuption of one
second
or longer.

MODE

thermostatcontacts.Thisenergizes

compressor.The cooldelay-to-fan-on
periodbegins.Afterthe
delay periodends, the optionalelectronic
air cleaneris ener-
gized,
and
thecirculatorfanisenergized
atcool
speed.
Afterthe
thermostatissatisfied,
thecompressorisde-energizedandthe
cool
mode
delay-to-fan-off
perlod
begins.Afterthedelay-to-fan-
off period ends, the circulatorfan and electronicair cleaner
(optional)
arede-energized.
MANUAL
FAN
ON
MODE
lf the thermostatfan switch is movedto the ON position,
the
circulatorfan
(cool
speed)andoptionalelectronicaircleanerare
energized.Whenthe fan switchis retumedto theAUTOposi-
tion,the circulatorfan and electronicair cleaner(optional)
are
de-energized.
