Recycling
This symbol means that your appliance must not be thrown into a normal bin. It will be selecvely collected for the purpose
of reuse, recycling or transformaon. If it contains any substances that may be harmful to the environment, these will be

WARNINGS
GENERAL WARNINGS
• Failure to respect the warnings may cause serious damage to the pool equipment or cause serious injury, even death.
• Only a person qualied in the technical elds concerned (electricity, hydraulics or refrigeraon) is authorised to perform any
servicing or repairs to the appliance. The qualied technician working on the appliance must use/wear personal protecve
equipment (such as safety goggles and protecve gloves, etc.) in order to reduce the risk of injury occurring when working on
the appliance.
• Before handling the machine, ensure that it is switched o and isolated from the power supply.
• The appliance is intended to be used for pools and spas for a specic purpose; it must not be used for any purpose other than
that for which it was designed.
• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) having a physical, sensory or mental disability, or by
persons lacking experience or knowledge of the appliance, unless they are rst instructed or are supervised during the use of the
appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
• Keep the appliance out of the reach of children.
• The appliance must be installed according to the manufacturer’s instrucons and in compliance with local and naonal standards.
The installer is responsible for installing the appliance and for compliance with naonal installaon regulaons. Under no
circumstances may the manufacturer be held liable in the event of failure to comply with applicable local installaon standards.
• For any work other than the simple user maintenance described in this manual, the product should be referred to a qualied
professional.
• Incorrect installaon and/or use may cause serious damage to property or serious injuries (possibly causing death).
• All equipment, even postage and packing paid, travels at the risks and perils of the recipient. The laer shall issue reserves in
wring on the carrier's delivery slip if damage is detected, caused during transport (conrmaon to be sent to the carrier within
48 hours by registered leer). In the event that an appliance containing coolant has been turned on its side, menon your
reservaons in wring to the carrier.
• If the appliance suers a malfuncon, do not try to repair it yourself; instead contact a qualied technician.
• Refer to the warranty condions for details of the permied water balance values for operang the appliance.
• Deacvang, eliminang or by-passing any of the safety mechanisms integrated into the appliance shall automacally void the
warranty, in addion to the use of spare parts manufactured by unauthorised third-party manufacturers.
• Do not spray inseccide or any other chemical (inammable or non-inammable) in the direcon of the appliance, as this may
damage the body and cause a re.
• Zodiac® heat pump, lter pump and lter appliances are compable with the most commonly used types of pool water treatment
systems.
• Do not touch the fan or moving parts and do not place objects or your ngers in the vicinity of the moving parts when the
appliance is in operaon. Moving parts can cause serious injury or even death.
WARNINGS CONCERNING SAND FILTERS
• The lter is not a water disinfecon system. Use a water treatment system complementary to ltraon.
• Use only suitable lter medium (special swimming pool ltraon glass or sand).
• Do not operate the lter without water.
• Switch o and disconnect the lter pump electrically then then close the isolaon valve before working on the lter or the
mulway valve.
• Never open the lter when the lter pump is in operaon.
• It is strictly prohibited to handle the mulway valve when water is owing in it.
• Do not immerse the appliance in water (with the excepon of cleaners) or mud.
• Check that there is no air in the lter before turning it on; the presence of pressurised air could damage the lter.
• The proof pressure of the lter is 2.5 bar (36 psi); never operate the lter above this pressure.

❷ Installaon
2.1 I Selecng the locaon
• The lter must be installed:
- aer the circulaon pump (see image ),
- before the heang and/or water treatment system (see image ),
- ideally 0.5 metres below the water level (see image : ),
- ideally less than 5 metres from the pool (see image : ),
- in a dry venlated equipment room protected against frost.
• The lter must not be installed:
- in an area subject to ooding, splashing, rain or exposed to direct sunlight,
- more than 1.5 metres above the water level (see image : ),
- near a heat source or source of ammable gas,
- in an equipment room where chemicals are stored, since the emanaons could damage the lter.
• Easy access is required for maintenance work (cover, hydraulic connecon, valves, draining).
• The hydraulic circuit before the lter must be as short as possible to prevent air pockets from becoming lodged in the
pipes, and with the fewest obstacles possible (bends, other appliances), to avoid head loss.
• Place on a stable, level and solid surface (e.g. concrete oor).
• Secure the lter to the ground using stainless steel screws (not included).
• Check that the lter is installed more than 1.5 metres from the pool switch box (see image : ) in order to be able
to stay clear when turning on.
• We strongly recommend ng a check valve if the lter is installed above the water level.
• Installaon of valves upstream and downstream from the lter is mandatory if it is installed below the water level.

2.2 I Assembling the lter
2.2.1 Assembling the pressure gauge and air release
• Only ghten parts by hand.
• Screw the T-connector provided ( ) into the central orice ( ) of the translucent cap. Use the gasket provided
() to seal. Do not use Teon tape.
• Screw the air release ( ) onto the large threaded orice of the T-connector ( ).
Tip: installing the bleed screw
The bleed screw already contains its own seal; do not use Teon tape to seal.
• Screw the pressure gauge ( ) onto the small threaded orice of the T-connector ( ).
Tip: installing the pressure gauge
Teon tape (not included) may be required to improve the sealing of the pressure gauge on the T-connector.

2.2.2 Installing the mulway valve
• Insert the gasket ( ) into the threaded orice marked "TOP" of the mulway valve. Pass a nut ( ) around the short
pipe ( ), then ghten the pipe rmly on the mulway valve to ensure sealing (see image ).
• Place an O-ring ( ) in the groove of the upper connecon of the lter. Posion the valve with its short pipe by gently
ghtening the nut ( ) so that the assembly can sll move (see image and ).
• Place an O-ring ( ) in the groove of the lower connecon of the lter. Pass a nut ( ) around the bent pipe ( ), then
posion the assembly without bonding in this step (see image ).
• Gently ghten the nut ( ) and rmly ghten the nut ( ) to obtain perfect alignment between the mulway valve
and the lter (see image ).
• Remove the nut ( ) and bent pipe ( ). Prepare and coat the smooth end of the bent/curved secon of pipe
() with a non-toxic adhesive which is suitable for this applicaon and the orice marked "BOTTOM" of the mulway
valve.
• Reposion the bent pipe/nut assembly and rmly ghten the nut ( ). Allow the adhesive to dry before turning on
the lter.

2.2.3 Filling the lter
• Remove the bolts and washers holding the translucent cover shroud. Set aside.
• Remove the shroud, the cover and its seal. Set aside.
• Check that the diuser, the manifold and its strainers are in good posion and correctly posioned.
• Unscrew the diuser and replace with the protecve cap provided.
• Fill the lter with one third of water so as to cover the strainers.
Tip: protect the bolt threading
Cover the bolts with adhesive tape to protect them and make the cover easier to close.
• Carefully pour in the coarse grain lter media up to the required level (take care not to damage the manifold and its
strainers).
• Level the lter media as it is poured in.
• Then pour in the ne grain lter media up to the required level.
See the label on the lter for the amounts of lter media to use.

• Remove the protecve cap and screw the diuser back in place.
• Clean of any remaining lter media around the groove of the seal and the bolts (if necessary, take the protecon o
the bolts).
• Posion the cover and its gasket on the opening.
• Fit the washers and nuts on the bolts. Tighten the 8 nuts diagonally to obtain a hermec seal.
• Fit the protecve caps provided on the nuts.

• The nuts must be screwed with a ghtening torque of 6 to 7 nm.

❸ Use
3.1 I Operang principle
The lter is essenal for a swimming pool since it contributes to water treatment and ensures its clarity.
Water passes through the lter media in the lter vessel and impuries are removed.
The greater the accumulaon of impuries, the more the pressure in the lter will increase. Idenfy the normal operang
pressure on the pressure gauge when turning on. When the pressure reaches +0.3 to 0.5 bar (+4 to 7 psi) relave to the
normal operang pressure , the lter media must be cleaned by backushing.
3.2 I Mulway valve posions
Posion "Filter"
Water is sent to the lter media and returned to the pool.
: Pool sucon = open
: Pool discharge = open
: Filter inlet or outlet = open
: Discharge to the drainage system = closed
Posion "Backwash"
The lter media is backushed. The water circulaon direcon in
the lter is reversed and the water discharged to the evacuaon to
eliminate the impuries.
: Pool sucon = open
: Pool discharge = closed
: Filter inlet or outlet = open but reverse direcon of ow
: Discharge to the drainage system = open
Posion "Rinse"
Water is sent to the lter media and sent to the evacuaon. This is
carried out to complete the washing procedure and sele the lter
media in the lter, as well as to clean the lter pipes aer backushing.

Posion "Waste"
This is carried out to drain the pool or lower the water level. The water
is sent directly to the evacuaon without going through the lter.
• In this case, and if the pool has a boom plug hole,
aspirate the water through the boom plug hole only to
prevent air from geng into the pipes.

: Filter inlet or outlet = closed
: Discharge to the drainage system = open
Posion "Recirculate"
Water is circulated without going through the lter and sent directly
to the pool.
: Pool sucon = open
: Pool discharge = open

Posion "Closed"
Water no longer circulates in the mulway valve or the lter.
• Do not run the ltraon pump when the valve is in this
posion!

Tip : winterizing the lter
• When the pool is winterised (reduced water level and pipes drained), set the valve to the intermediate
posion (between any 2 sengs). This posion sets the internal gaskets of the mulway valve to standby
to protect them and keep them in good condion.

3.3 I Operaon
• To prevent against any risk of explosion that may cause material damage, serious injury or
even death, make sure that the hydraulic circuit is free of any debris or blockage and is not
subject to excessive pressure, and that the lter cover is properly posioned and ghtened.
• Ensure that all valves are open and/or that the power of the ltraon pump is suitable for the
size of the lter if the inial pressure is greater than 1.2 bar (17 psi).
• Never change the posion of the mulway valve when the lter pump is in operaon.
• Never dismantle the valve when the lter is pressurised.
• Check:
- the correct ghtening of the hydraulic connectors,
- the stability of the lter, which must be level,
- that the hydraulic circuit is drained and does not contain any debris,
- that the lter cover is closed properly,
- that the valves are open.
• Open the lter isolaon valves and the drain valve to the evacuaon.
• Open the lter cover air bleed screw.
• Set the mulway valve to posion "backwash".
• Start the pump.
• When the lter level is at maximum (water comes out of the air bleed screw), close the cover air bleed screw.
• Check that there are no leaks on the hydraulic circuit.
• When starng for the rst me, stay in posion "backwash" unl the water is clear in the transparent window on the
side of the mulway valve.
• Stop the water circulaon.
• Set the valve to posion "rinse" and switch on the water circulaon unl the water is clear.
• Stop the ltraon pump.
• Set the mulway valve to posion "lter" and start a normal ltraon cycle.
• Record the inial lter pressure shown on the pressure gauge to serve as reference value.
• Make sure that the pressure indicated lies within the operang range (see §"1.2 I Technical specicaons").
Tip: installaon with a variable speed pump
• For an installaon with a variable speed pump, it is normal to have a low inial pressure if the ltering
speed is low, and vice versa. In such a case, always use the same ltering speed as a comparison reference.
Tip: to save water
• To consume less water, stop the washing and rinsing procedure as soon as the water is no longer cloudy
in the transparent window on the side of the mulway valve.

❹ Maintenance
4.1 I Winterizing
• Stop the water circulaon.
• Clean the lter (see §4.1.2 Backushing).
• Drain the water out of the lter (see §4.1.3 Replacing the lter media), and the enre hydraulic circuit.
• If the lter is posioned below the water level, close the isolaon valves at sucon and discharge.
• Turn the lever of the mulway valve to an intermediate posion (between any 2 sengs) to preserve the internal
gasket.
4.2 I Maintenance
4.1.1 User maintenance
• Clean the outside of the appliance, do not use solvent-based products.
• Check the lter pressure and the condion of the pressure gauge and the air release once a week.
• Remove debris from the pump's pre-lter basket (see pump manual).
• Check that there are no leaks in the hydraulic circuit.
4.1.2 Backushing
• Stop the lter pump and make sure to switch o your water treatment appliance if any, since water will not ow in
this part of the hydraulic circuit.
• Check that the pressure shown on the pressure gauge is 0 bar.
• Set the valve to posion "backwash" and switch on the lter pump again.
• When the water appears clear through the transparent window on the side of the mulway valve, switch o the lter
pump.
• Set the valve to the "rinse" posion and switch the ltraon system back on.
• When the water appears clear through the transparent window on the side of the mulway valve, switch o the lter
pump.
• Set the valve to the "lter" posion and switch the lter pump back on.
Tip: backushing
• Quickly switch back and forth between the "backwash" and "rinse" posions in order to unclog and more
easily clean the lter medium. This process reduces water consumpon.
• Backush when water circulaon becomes more dicult (pressure more than 0.3 to 0.5 bar above normal
pressure, in the yellow or red area of the pressure gauge).
• Backushing is recommended once a month.
4.1.3 Replacing the lter media
• Stop the water circulaon.
• Set the valve to posion "closed" and close the other valves as a precauon.
• Open the air bleed screw on the cover and unscrew the drain plug to drain the water from the lter.
• Take o the cover then remove the lter media manually or using a water and dust vacuum cleaner (take care not to
damage the diuser, the manifold and its strainers).
• Fill the lter with new lter media (see §2.2.3 Filling the lter).

❺ Troubleshoong
• If a problem occurs, before you contact your retailer, please carry out these few simple checks
using the following tables.

• Check the lter media grain size, change if
necessary (see §4.1.3 Replacing the lter media).
• Remove some lter media to obtain the correct
level (see §2.2.3 Filling the lter).
• Replace the damaged manifold and/or manifold
strainers.
The pressure gauge
needle shakes violently.
• Air leak in the circuit.
• Sucon valves half-closed.
• Check the connecons and gaskets.
• Adjust the valves.
The water is cloudy.
• Filter media clogged.
• Water balance incorrect.
• Filtraon me is insucient.
• Wash the lter media to eliminate the foreign
bodies. If washing is insucient, change the lter
media and check the condion of the manifold
and/or its strainers.
• Check and adjust the water balance.
• Wash the lter media and increase the ltraon
me if this proves insucient.
The lter must be
cleaned more frequently.
• Water balance incorrect.
• Filter media clogged.
• Organic proliferaon in the
lter media.
• Check and adjust the water balance.
• Wash the lter. If washing is insucient, change
the lter media.
• Clean the lter media using a special "lter
cleaner".
The mulway valve
scks.
• The valve is clogged or contains
foreign bodies.
• Rinse the mulway valve. If this is
insucient, dismantle it (respect precauons in
§2.2.2 Installing the mulway valve), change it if
necessary.
