TWO-PORT ATA
Your Two-Port ATA comes with a power cube and
Ethernet cable. Some models also include other items,
such as a phone cord, phone-jack adapters, phone filter,
or service provider flyer.
Quick Start
To complete the installation, you need the following:
•A broadband Internet connection using a cable
modem, ADSL, T1, E1, SDSL, or any other high-speed
"always on" Internet connection.
•An account set up with a VoIP service provider. If
you do not have an account set up, please look for a
Read Me First! flyer in the box for your VoIP Two-Port
ATA and follow its instructions. If there is no flyer, go to
your service provider's Web site and sign up for service.
•A router that uses your broadband Internet
connection. This can be an ADSL modem with a built-
in router, a cable modem with a built-in router, or some
other router connected to a broadband Internet
connection. The router needs at least one available
LAN port, and the router needs to be set up for 10/100
or 10/100/1000 or 10 Mbps. (Most routers use 10/100
unless you change them.)
•A telephone or telephones so you can place and
receive phone calls.
Now you're ready to connect the Two-Port ATA to
telephones, a router, and a "live" power outlet.
Follow these easy steps:

1Plug your telephones or cordless phone base stations
into the PHONE jacks on the left side of the ATA’s
back panel. You can use either one of the phone
jacks or both:

Note: If the plugs on your telephone cords do not fit the
PHONE jacks, you have two options.
a) Unplug the line cords from your telephones, if possible. In
their place, plug in cords that have RJ-11 phone plugs on
each end. One end plugs into a telephone, and the other end
plugs into an ATA PHONE jack. (Your ATA may come with
these RJ-11 phone cords.) OR
b) Plug adapters between your telephone line cords and the
PHONE jacks. (In some countries the ATA comes with
adapters.)

2Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the ATA’s
Ethernet port and the other end into a LAN port on
your router.

3Plug the ATA’s power cube into the PWR jack and the
other end into a live power strip or wall outlet.

4The ATA goes through a power-up and registration
sequence, and some of the LEDs turn on. This can
take up to 3 minutes. Then the READY light turns on
and – provided that your ATA has been preconfigured
– you are all set to make phone calls!
Note: If your ATA is not working properly, it may be because your
router is set up to enable IP filtering. You can solve this problem
by configuring a DMZ for the router port connected to the ATA.
Your router’s documentation should show you how to do this.
Making Phone Calls
Default operation
When you use a phone connected to either of the ATA's
ports, by default you make calls using an available VoIP
account configured in your ATA. If you have phones
connected to both phone ports, when you receive a call

the phones on both ports will ring. This mode of operation
would suit a small company where there are two customer
service representatives, each with a telephone, and it
doesn’t matter which person answers a call. This mode is
also fine if you are connecting just one phone.
If you want to assign separate phone numbers for each
ATA phone port, you need to set up two VoIP accounts as
described below.
Two Ports, Two Phone numbers
You can choose to have each ATA port associated with a
separate VoIP telephone number. Calls to and from one
phone will be associated with one telephone number, and
calls to and from the other phone will be associated with a
different number. Received calls will ring only the phone
associated with the number that was called.
This mode of operation is appropriate for a small business
that, for example, needs to track the calls made by two
different sales people, and also wants to allow their
customers with Caller ID to recognize who is calling them.
In addition, callers to the numbers associated with the
ATA’s VoIP accounts can expect to be connected to the
particular person assigned that number.
Two phone numbers are also appropriate for residential
use. For example, families may want one number for the
adults and another number for the teenagers.
Mapping Phone Lines to VoIP Accounts
Note: There are separate pages for outgoing and
incoming calls.

After you make your entries, click Save These
Settings.

variations and combinations of the modes as you wish, by
following this same online help.
Power or Internet Connection Failure
If the ATA loses power or loses its Internet connection,
you will not be able to place calls through the Internet.
Controlling the ATA from Your Phone
Your ATA has a number of features that relate to calls
traveling through the Internet. These features can be
controlled from either phone plugged into your ATA as
described below. For all these commands you first take
the phone off-hook and then enter the command.
Note: these features apply only to VoIP calls, not calls that
travel through the traditional phone network.
*55 Enable call waiting on all calls. When a call is waiting, you
will hear a tone. Press the Hook-flash button or do a manual
hookflash to go back and forth between your two callers.
*56 Disable call waiting on all calls.

*59 Disable caller ID for call waiting calls.
*70 Turn off call waiting for the next call.
*71 Turn on call waiting for the next call.
*72 Forward all calls to <phone number>. After you dial *72,
dial 8, enter the phone number, then press #.
*73 Disable call forwarding.
*82 Enable caller ID for all outbound calls.
*62 Block caller ID on all outbound calls.
*65 Enable caller ID on all inbound calls.
*85 Disable caller ID for all inbound calls.
*67 Enable caller ID for the next outbound call.
*68 Block caller ID for the next outbound call.
*66 Redial the last number you dialed.
*69 Call the last person who called you.
*77 Block all calls that don’t have a caller ID.
*87 Stop blocking calls that don’t have a caller ID.
*78 Do not disturb. Your phone won’t ring!
*79 Turn off “Do not Disturb.” Lets your phone ring.
Resetting Your ATA
To return your ATA to the most recent settings given to
you by your service provider, insert the end of a pin or
paper clip into the RESET hole in the back panel of the
ATA and hold for at least five seconds.

customers’ needs and location, and the service provider’s

Tu Two-Port ATA viene con un cargador (power cube) y

Siga estos pasos sencillos:

1Conecte su(s) teléfono(s) o la(s) unidad(es) de base
de su(s) teléfono(s) inalámbrico(s) en los enchufes
TELEFÓNICOS del lado izquierdo del panel posterior
de su ATA. Puedes usar cualquiera de los enchufes
telefónicos o ambos.
Nota: si los enchufes de los cordones de su teléfonos no
empatan en los ENCHUFES telefónicos, usted tiene dos
opciones:
a) Desconecte los cordones de sus líneas telefónicas si es
posible. En su lugar conecte los cordones del RJ-11 que
trae enchufes telefónicos en cada extremo. Un extremo se
conecta a un teléfono y el otro extremo se conecta a un
enchufe TELEFÓNICO de ATA. (Es posible que su ATA
venga con estos cordones telefónicos RJ-11). O
b) Conecte los adaptadores entre los cordones de su línea
telefónica y los ENCHUFES telefónicos. (En algunos países
el ATA viene con adaptadores).

2Conecte un extremo del cable Ethernet en el Puerto
Ethernet del ATA y el otro extremo en un Puerto LAN
de su enrutador (router).

una multi-toma o en un tomacorriente de pared.
