Das D12 VR ist ein dynamisches Großmembran-Mikrofon mit
nierenförmiger Richtcharakteristik. Es wurde speziell für die Abnahme
von Kick-Drum entwickelt und besitzt dafür eine sehr dünne und
dadurch leichte Membran, die hervorragend mit tiefen Frequenzen
arbeiten kann.
Das Mikrofon besitzt einen Schalter mit dem Sie Filtereinstellungen
vornehmen können. Ohne Phantomspeisung wird Ihnen der pure Klang
der Schallquelle geliefert. Mit eingeschalteter Phantomspeisung gibt es
3 am Mikrofon schaltbare Aktivfilter-Voreinstellungen für eine schnelle
Anpassung an die jeweiligen Anforderungen bei der Kick-Drum
Abnahme. Die Lautstärke wird dabei automatisch um 10 dB
abgesenkt.

Beschreibung
Arbeitsweise des aktiven Filters:
Die Art der Verwendung eines aktiven elektronischen Filters in einem
dynamischen Mikrofon ist eine von AKG patentierte Lösung. Den
notwendigen Strom dazu "Phantom Power" liefert das angeschlossene
Mischpult. Das Funktionsprinzip des Filters ist die eines analogen
Rechners mit einer Transformator-Schaltung. Dabei werden die zu
bearbeitenden Frequenzen über eine Filterschaltung geführt und
anschließend zum Nutzsignal im Transformator addiert oder
subtrahiert. Die Unterschiede in den Anschlussimpedanzen sind somit
ausgeblendet und das Ergebnis ist immer ein perfekter Sound
unabhängig vom angeschlossenen Audiogerät. Das Klangergebnis ist
besonders eindrucksvoll bei Signalspitzen wo der Transformator seine
Stärken ausspielen kann.

Beschreibung
a Wird das D12 VR nicht mit Phantomspeisung versorgt, arbeitet es
wie ein herkömmliches dynamisches Mikrofon. Keine der 3
Filtereinstellungen hat einen Einfluss auf das Audiosignal.
b Wenn Sie die Phantomspeisung aktivieren (P48V) können Sie mit
einem 3-stufigen Schalter jeweils einen der 3 Filter-
Voreinstellungen auswählen. Die Lautstärke wird dabei
automatisch um 10 dB reduziert.

Die jeweilige Position wird gut sichtbar durch eine LED angezeigt und
ist somit auch in der Kick-Drum positioniert klar erkennbar.

Anwendung / Reinigung
Man ist sich allgemein darüber einig, dass es für die Abnahme der
Bassdrum von Vorteil ist, das Resonanzfell zu entfernen. Einen vollen
Trommelklang erhält man, indem man das Mikrofon von außen in die
Trommel hineinschauen lässt. Einen weniger trommelartigen,
trockeneren Klang kann man dadurch erzielen, dass man das Mikrofon
immer weiter in die Trommel hineinschiebt, wodurch zusätzlich
bessere akkustische Abschirmung gegenüber den übrigen
Schlagzeugkomponenten gewährleistet ist. Richtet man das Mikrofon
in einer Linie mit dem Schlägel aus, kommt ein härteres Klangbild
zustande, das schließlich zum "Klick" wird, wenn das Mikrofon nur
mehr etwa 2 bis 3 cm vom Anschlagpunkt des Schlägels am Fell
entfernt ist. Wird das Mikrofon nicht entlang dieser Achse und mehr
auf den Schlagfellrand hin ausgerichtet, ergibt sich ein weicherer
Klangcharakter.
xReinigen Sie die Gehäuseoberfläche des Mikrofons mit einem mit
Wasser befeuchteten Tuch.

The D12 VR is a large-diaphragm cardioid dynamic microphone.
Designed specifically for kick-drum recording applications, the
microphone has a thin diaphragm to enhance the low frequency
performance.
Without phantom power, the microphone delivers the pure character of
the sound source. With phantom power enabled, one of three
switchable active-filter presets can be used to quickly adapt the
microphone response to suit the desired kick-drum. The filter setting
can be controlled using a switch on the microphone body. In this mode
the output level is also reduced by 10 dB automatically.

Description
Active filter operation:
The implementation of an active electronic filter in a dynamic
microphone is an AKG patented solution. “Phantom Power” must be
supplied from the connected mixing desk in order to power the active
filter circuitry. The operating principle of the active filters is based on
analogue circuitry combined with a transformer. Frequency processing
is performed in the filter circuit and then combined with the audio
signal in the transformer. Impedance differences between the
microphone and other equipment are cancelled out enabling a perfect
sound regardless of the connected device. The resulting sound is
especially impressive at high signal levels at which the transformer
enhances the audio signal.

Description
a Without phantom power the D12 VR operates as a normal
dynamic microphone. The three active filters are bypassed and do
not affect the audio signal.
b When connected to a standard phantom power supply (P48V) the
output level is automatically reduced by 10 dB and one of three
active filter presets can be selected using the three-way switch.
1) Switch in left position (green LED)
The midrange filter is applied as
in Position 2 and a low-end
boost enhances the power of
the kick drum.
Recommended for use with

A mid-range attenuation filter is
active, providing more space for
other instruments in the mix.
Recommended for achieving a vintage sound.
3) Switch in right position (blue LED)
The mid-range and low-end filters are applied as in positions 1
and 2 as well as a high-end boost to enhance the presence of
the kick.
Recommended for use with closed kick drums.
The switch position is clearly represented by the colour coded LEDs
and hence the filter selection can be determined with ease.

Application / Cleaning
Most engineers agree that it is beneficial to remove the front head
when miking up the bass drum. A full drum sound is obtained by
placing the microphone just outside the drum. The further inside, the
drier and less boomy the sound and the better the acoustic separation
of the bass drum from the rest of the kit. Pointing the microphone right
toward the beater produces a harder sound culminating in a "click"
when the microphone is as close as 1 or 1.5 inches to where the
beater strikes the head. Directing the microphone away from this
point, toward the rim of the head, will mellow the sound.

Le D12 VR est un microphone dynamique à large membrane à
caractéristique de directivité cardioïde. Conçu spécifiquement pour la
prise de son de la grosse caisse, il est équipé dans ce but d'une
membrane très fine dont la légèreté permet d'obtenir un excellent
comportement dans les basses fréquences.
Le microphone est doté d'un commutateur permettant la configuration
du filtre. En l'absence d'alimentation fantôme, vous obtenez une
retranscription très fidèle de la source sonore. Le micro est équipé de
3préréglages de filtre actif sélectionnables directement sur l'appareil
lorsqu'il est utilisé avec une alimentation fantôme. Ils permettent une
adaptation rapide aux exigences spécifiques de la prise de son de la
grosse caisse. Lorsque le filtre est activé, le niveau sonore est
automatiquement réduit de 10 dB.
