3 Operating Instructions
3.1
General Information
The follow ng nformat on should be observed when conduct ng breath test analys s us ng th s
nstrument:
For accurate testing results, food, beverages, medications, smoking, vaping or
substances t at contain alco ol s ould not be consumed for at least 15
minutes prior to testing.
Allow 15 minutes for any potential interfering alco ol to be cleared from t e
donor before testing again.
Blood alco ol concentration can continue to rise for up to 2 ours after t e
cessation of drinking and care s ould be taken if a result close to t e
designated blood alco ol concentration is indicated.
W en a ig blood alco ol level as been reac ed, it can take 10 ours or more
for t e blood alco ol level to return to zero.
If t e test result is above t e operational maximum limit, a plus sign (+) after
t e result will be displayed.
CAUTION
Wh le the LE5 s a robust nstrument, t does conta n sens t ve nstrumentat on and should not be
subject to rough handl ng or become submerged n water.
Do not store the nstrument n d rect sunl ght or places where extreme temperature cond t ons
can occur.
NOTE
The LE5 has opt onal features wh ch may or may not be act ve on your nstrument. The screen

Cleaning requirements
T e instrument s ould be cleaned wit a soft clot and antibacterial spray or anti-
bacterial wipes. It is recommended t at t e instrument is turned off before
cleaning.
T e outside of t e instrument can be cleaned by wiping it over wit a soft moist clot
followed by a soft dry clot .

Do not use alco ol based cleaners.
Do not use ars cleaning agents, abrasive cleaning pads or c emicals.
Rubber gloves s ould be used during cleaning of t e instrument.
3.2
Testing Types
The LE5 can perform both Mouthp ece and Pass ve test ng:
Standard – Mout piece test
Passive Standard – If alco ol is present, t e instrument will require a
Mout piece test
Passive Only – T e instrument will not automatically require a Mout piece
test following an alco ol present passive test
Mouthp ece test ng prov des a BrAC read ng n g/210L (or other measur ng un ts as requ red).
Pass ve test ng w ll d splay the presence of alcohol n breath. If a Pass ve test nd cates the presence
of alcohol, a Mouthp ece test should be performed f an accurate BrAC s requ red.
NOTE
Mouthp ece test ng s also referred to as Standard or Act ve Test ng.

When the BrAC read ng s calculated, t w ll be d splayed on the screen together w th the un t of
measurement (e.g. g/210L BrAC, g/100ml BAC) and be reta ned unt l the recover ng per od has
ended. The screen colour w ll vary depend ng on the percentage of alcohol present; green for zero
to 0.019 g/210L BrAC, yellow for 0.020 g/210L BrAC to 0.049 g/210L BrAC and red for read ngs
greater than 0.050 g/210L BrAC. The Recover ng per od s
nd cated by ‘Recovering’ shown on the d splay (Refer F gure 12).
Refer to Sect on 9 for nstruct ons on how to change the Setpo nt values.

Passive Testing
Pass ve test ng s a test that s performed n a non- nvas ve manner and w thout us ng mouthp eces.
Pass ve test ng on the LE5 can act vated n one of two ways, e ther button act vated by the operator
or pressure act vated by the donor blow ng.
A pass ve test by button act vat on s performed by hold ng the nstrument 5 cm n front of the test
subject’s mouth, Press the Test Key and ask them to count or talk so that exhaled breath may be
p cked up by the nstrument and analysed for the presence of any alcohol.
Pressure Act vated Pass ve s performed by hold ng the nstrument approx mately 5cm n front of
the test subject mouth and ask ng them to blow nto the Pass ve Cup. The pressure of the blow
act vates a pass ve test.
When us ng Pass ve Standard test ng, a Mouthp ece test s automat cally enabled, should the
nstrument detect alcohol on the subject’s exhaled breath. Pass ve Only test ng does not prompt the
user for further test ng.
3.5.5
Enabling Passive Standard

Position t e mout 5cm away from t e breat entry port. Blow steadily into
t e passive cup, listening until a long beep is eard indicating t e breat
collection is complete. Stop blowing. T e instrument will take a s ort moment
to analyse t e sample followed by displaying t e result.
Dur ng these three pump act vat ons, the operator must hold the nstrument steady and at the same
d stance from the subject. After the three pump cl cks, the nstrument w ll sound a long beep
nd cat ng the test s complete. Analysing Sample w ll then be d splayed (Refer F gure 11).
3.5.7
Analysing a Passive Breat Sample
After a val d breath sample s taken, the Analysing Sample message s d splayed unt l the
nstrument determ nes f alcohol s present. Th s w ll normally take a few seconds. In cold cl mate
cond t ons t may take longer to d splay the result.
When the Pass ve standard read ng s calculated, t w ll be d splayed and reta ned unt l the
recover ng per od has ended.
If a Pass No Alcohol read ng s d splayed the nstrument has nd cated that no alcohol was detected
n the near v c n ty of subject’s exhaled breath. When the recover ng per od has ended the
nstrument s ready for the next Pass ve Standard Breath Test (Refer F gure 16).
Figure 16- Pass No Alco ol Message
To perform another Pass ve Standard breath test, repeat steps n paragraph 3.5.6.
If a Warn ng Alcohol Present read ng s d splayed, the nstrument has nd cated that alcohol
