Solutions for better hearing

Intended use of hearing aids
audifon hearing aids are used to compensate for impaired
hearing of the wearer. They require individual adjustment of
their amplification setting by the hearing care professional.
The devices function by intercepting airborne sounds,
performing digital signal processing and reproducing the
amplified sound.
CROS/BiCROS hearing systems are used in particular when one
ear is not directly aidable for audiological/medical reasons.
With the CE mark audifon GmbH & Co. KG confirms that the
products specified in these operating instructions satisfy the
requirements of the Medical Device Directive 93/42/EC and the
R&T TE Directive 2014/53/EC on radio and telecommunication
terminal equipment.
In-The-Ear devices meet the above provisions although they do
not bear a CE mark.
The declaration of conformity can be consulted at the premises
of audifon GmbH & Co. KG, Werner-von-Siemens-Straße 2, 99625
Kölleda, Germany.

 Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of your new audifon hearing
aids. Your hearing care professional has adjusted the hearing
aids to your individual requirements. These instructions are
therefore intended to help you use your audifon hearing aids
properly.
Please read through the following operating and care
instructions carefully to avoid malfunctions and faults.
If you follow these instructions, your hearing aids will prove
an invaluable help in your day-to-day communication with
your surroundings and other people.
The specific model of your hearing aids is shown on the sticker
on the packaging, on the warranty card or printed on the
hearing aids themselves.
If you have any further questions, please contact your hearing
care professional.

Keep batteries, hearing aids and tinnitus retraining
instruments away from children and pets. There is a risk
of swallowing! If a battery is swallowed, consult a doctor
immediately.*
If any unexpected side eects should occur from using your
devices (e.g. skin irritation, increased build-up of earwax),
consult your doctor or hearing care professional.
In very rare cases the dome may remain in the ear canal on
removal. Should this occur, consult a doctor immediately.
Do not use hearing aids or tinnitus retraining instruments
in environments in which there is a risk of explosion (e.g. in
mines or industrial installations with a risk of explosion).
Hearing aids are adjusted to the individual hearing loss
of each wearer and should therefore only be used by this
person. If the hearing aid or tinnitus retraining instrument is
worn by someone else, this may damage the hearing.
Tinnitus retraining instruments should only be used
on the recommendation of your doctor or hearing care
professional.
Remove hearing aids whenever you go for a CT or MRI scan
or other magnetic field-based examination.

Devices with the Auto T-Coil/Auto Phone function include
a magnet. Please therefore observe the following safety
instructions:

Keep magnets away from children. If a magnet is
swallowed, contact a doctor immediately.

Magnets can cause malfunctions in life-support
equipment (e.g. pacemakers, magnetic valves etc.).
Only use magnets if you are sure of the safety distances.
The safety distance between a pacemaker and a magnet
should be at least 10 cm.

Magnets pose a risk when they are placed close to
magnetic storage media. Please therefore keep magnets
away from computers, colour monitors, television sets,
computer disks, video cassettes, audio cassettes and
electronic devices.
Hearing aids and tinnitus retraining instruments are susceptible
to impact. Therefore avoid any heavy knocks (e.g. by dropping
the device).
To prevent damage to your devices, please do not wear them in
the following situations:
when swimming, in the shower, in the bath
when washing or blow-drying your hair
when using hair spray
during high-frequency heat therapy treatment
during X-rays
when exposed to heat
when exposed to electromagnetic radiation (e.g. microwave)

Do not force the battery into the battery compartment. If it
does not fit, check whether you are inserting it correctly and
that it is the correct type of battery.
If you are not going to use your devices for a long period, remove
the battery to increase its life expectancy, to avoid leakage and
to prevent corrosion on the battery contacts.
When not in use, store your devices in the case provided.
Arrange for your devices to be checked regularly by a hearing
care professional.

Low battery warning
An audible signal indicates the end of the battery life (approx.
30 minutes before the battery runs out).
Transmitters and receivers dier here in terms of their tone
sequence. Your hearing care professional will be pleased to
demonstrate the dierent tone sequences.
We recommend you use audifon zinc air batteries. Please follow
the instructions on the battery packaging. Please dispose of
used batteries in the appropriate containers at your health care
professional’s premises. Always switch your hearing aid o after
use. Remove the battery if your hearing aid is out of use for long
periods.

Your CROS/BiCROS system consists of a transmitter and
receiver, which include the following elements:
Note: Your hearing aids may dier from the illustrations.
The markings on the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) can be
found on the battery compartment inside the devices.

. Startup
To start your hearing aids first insert a
battery in the battery compartment.
Remove a battery from its packaging.
Note: If you are using zincair batteries,
remove the protective film and wait a few
minutes before inserting.
Open the battery compartment carefully
with your fingernail at the opening edge and
swing it right out.
Insert the battery in the battery
compartment. Make sure the + symbol on
the battery matches the + symbol on the
battery compartment.
Note: If the battery is not inserted correctly,
the battery compartment will not close!
Please do not use force.
Do not open the battery compartment any
further than indicated. The device may be
damaged.

Switching on
Close the battery compartment securely by
moving it past the OFF position detent into
the casing.
You will feel the battery compartment
clicking into place as you close it.
The devices are switched on. After a preset
delay, the first program will activate and the
devices will be ready for use.
Switching o
To switch o, press the battery compartment
out to the first detent position. This is the
OFF position.
If the devices will be out of use for a long
time, open the battery compartment fully
and remove the battery.
Your devices are switched on and o via the battery
compartment.

. Inserting the hearing aids
Place the concha clip optional in the concha and switch the
device on by closing the battery compartment securely.

.. Multifunctional rocker switch
Your devices feature a multifunctional
rocker switch for controlling the volume and
selecting the dierent programs. The rocker
switch can be activated by pressing the top
end + and the bottom end .
The rocker switch can be programmed with one of three
functions. Your hearing care professional has marked here
which of the functions has been set for your devices:
Volume control
Press briefly to adjust the volume (see also 6.2).
Program selector switch
Press briefly to change the program (see also 6.3).

Press the switch briefly to adjust the volume, and hold the
switch down for approx. 1 second to change the program.
easyclick
If the easyclick feature is activated, all operating inputs will
be automatically transferred to the second hearing aid.
Your hearing aids can be operated from both sides.

.. Volume selection
The volume can be adjusted in steps using
the rocker switch.
Briefly pressing the top end of the switch
increases the volume, while briefly
pressing the bottom end reduces the
volume.
When you switch your devices on, they will
be set at the volume programmed for you.
You can only increase or reduce the volume
in steps, and each time you press the
switch you will hear audible confirmation.
Once you have reached the upper or lower
volume limit, you will hear a clear signal.
Note: Volume control and program
selection are optional functions. Your
hearing care professional will set your
devices to your individual requirements.

.. Selecting the hearing programs
Sound Dynamix
Rocker switch
Your hearing care professional will have adjusted your hearing
aids to various hearing situations with you and assigned these
to specific hearing programs. The rocker switch allows you to
switch between the hearing programs. Simply hold down one
end of the rocker switch until you hear audible confirmation
of the change of program. The number of signals indicates the
number of the selected program. You can move up or down
through the hearing situations.
via pro hearing aids feature automatic situation recognition,
i.e. the program is automatically adjusted to your hearing
environment. The hearing aids can recognise six dierent
situations: quiet, speech in a quiet setting, speech in
interference, noise, wind and music.

Automatic telephone program
via pro hearing aids can automatically switch to an adapted
telephone program as soon as you hold a telephone receiver
with magnetic sticker to your ear. This option can be enabled
in addition to the Sound Dynamix hearing program.
Note: Volume control and program selection are optional
functions. Your hearing care professional will set your devices to
your individual requirements.

.. Changing the earwax protection filter
Hearing aids with an external receiver are equipped with a
protective filter to prevent earwax building up on the inside of
the receiver. The filter must be replaced regularly to ensure your
hearing aids function perfectly. To replace the filter, proceed as
follows:
First remove the dome from the receiver
unit and clean it.
Remove the changing tool from the filter
dispenser and insert into the filter.
Remove the filter.
Turn the changing tool round so that the
new filter is at the bottom.
Press the new filter with the changing tool
into the filter opening of the device until it
clicks into place. Then simply pull o the
changing tool and discard.
