1 Preface
The Audionet Team congratulatesyou to your purchaseof thisunit.
AMP IV isAudionet'slatestpower amplifier addressing the committed
music loverexpectingthe maximum from their loudspeakers.Comprising
four channels,AMP IV isprimarily designed for Bi-Amping ofhigh-
quality speakers.Thereby, the low-range and the mid/high-range signals
are amplified separately foreach stereo channel. Each group ofspeaker
chassisisfed by amaximum of information, freed from retroactive
efffectson sound quality of theothers.Connoisseursknow, that most
loudspeakersare not able to tap their full potential and play way beyond
their limitsthe listenerisaccustomed to until used in aBi-Amping envi-
ronment.
AMP IV accomplishesthe feat tocombine outstanding performance and
matchless sound character with utmostcompactly dimensions.Withthese
features,theAMP IV ispredestined primarily for Bi-Amping solutions
suitable for your living space.
AMP IV captivatesitsaudience with an authenticity rarely to be experi-
enced. Itssound isfast, vigorousand thoroughly honest, but simultane-
ously full of concinnity, grace and accuracy. Paired with itscontagious
delight of performance, an amazingly realistic sound experience arises.
Additionally, the Bi-Amping effect providesfor intensification of the
muscial volume: Improved resolution, subtler distinguishness,more com-
prehensiblespatiality and more realistic timbres.
AMP IV representsthelateststateof Audionet'saward-winning amplifier
technology and audiophile passion: Engineered and produced in Bochum,
Germany.
Like in all our mono and stereo power amplifiers,we consequently real-
ized Audionet'sultra linear amplifier concept in the AMP IV, too. The
circuitry isdesignedto achieve exemplarylow distortion, celerity and
stability. The internalstructure of the AMP IV wasdeveloped inaway
that all four channelswork independently asfar aspossible. Only exclu-
sively selected high-grade componentsareused. Influencesharmful to
the sound quality of the amplifierhave beencompletely eliminated, and
an exemplary stability of performance isgranted.
AMP IV iscontrolled and monitored by acapablemicroprocessor. It
providesaneasyhandling, comforting reliability andeven checksthe
correct polarization of the mainsplug. Ofcourse, the AMP IV can be
remotely controlled by the Audionet Link interface.
But before you start listening to your new Audionet AMP IV, pleaseread
thismanual carefully soyou are able to useand enjoy all functionsof this
unit without drawbackon music quality.

1.2 Transport
Important
· Please transport the AMP IV only in the included package.
· Alwaysuse the plastic bag to prevent scratcheson the housing.
· Pleaseallow the AMP IV to adapt to the climatic conditionsin your
listening room before you switchon the unitfor the firsttime after
transport.

4 Installation and powersupply
Important
· For connecting or removing loudspeakersand/or the pre ampli-
fier the your AMPIVmustbe switched off to prevent damageon
the amplifier or the connected units.
· Pleasemakesure that all cablesare in absolute bestconditions!
Broken shieldsor short-cut loudspeakercablescould damage
speakersand/or amplifiers.
4.1Placement
Pleasefind aplace for your Audionet AMP IV that issufficiently venti-
lated to allow the heat to dissipate. It isrecommended to place the
AMP IV into ahigh quality rack or onto astable table. Do not exposethe
unit to direct sunlight.Do not place theunit in closerange to heat sources
like radiators. Do not cover the ventilation slotsof the AMP IV.
4.2Mains connection
The mainsinput 7 *ison the backpanel of the AMP IV. Toconnect the
unit to mainsusethe included mainscord. If you want to useadifferent
power cord make sure that it meetsthe specificationsfor your home
country.
Important
· The electrical specificationsprinted onto the backpanel mustmeet
the electrical specificationsof your home country.
· The AMP IV isaClass I unit and mustbe earthed. Pleaseensurea
stable earthconnection. 'Phase'('hot'pin)ismarked on the back panel
('PHASE')6.
· Never pull the mainsplug while the AMP IV isswitched on. Always
power down the unit to stand-by mode first, before you usethe mains
switch 5 on the back panel or pull the mainsplug.

Only in caseof extended absence(like vacations)or if massivetrouble on
the mainspower isto be expected you should disconnect the unit from
mains.Todisconnect the AMP IV completely from mainspull themains
plug.
4.3Orientation of mains plug
The correctpolarizationof mainsisimportant for reasonsof audioclarity
and stability. Pleaseconnect the mainscord that the hot pin of the wall
outlet isconnected to the pin of mainsinput 7 marked 'PHASE'6 on
the back panel of the unit.
Note
· Your Audionet AMP IV isable todetect awrong polarization of the
mainsplug.The LEDin the front panel will flashquickly while pow-
ering up from stand-by mode using the power key.In thiscase,
power done the unit and flip the mainsplug (see section 'Mainsphase
detection').

5 Inputsand outputs
Important
· For connecting or removing loudspeakersand/or the pre ampli-

5.1 Line inputs
At first, connect your pre amplifier to the lineinputs8 ,9 ,12 and 13
of the AMP IV. Go bythe namesof the channelsprinted above the input
jacks.
Note
· If you aresetting up abi-amping system,pleaseusechannel pair
1 & 5 or 3& 4 for onespeaker each. Connect the high pass inputof
your speakerspreferably to channel 1or 3; usechannels4&5forthe
low pass input respectively. Also, keep warningsregarding bi-amping
in the following section in mind!
· Pleasereferto the following table for somerecommended setupsof
typical speaker configurations:

5.2 Speaker terminals
Now, connect your speakerstothe gold plated terminalson the back
panel. The assignmentto the respective line input isclearly indicated.
Note
· Look out for the correct connection of yourspeaker cables.Usually,
the terminalsof yourspeakers(1 ,2 ,3 and5 )are marked '+'and
'-'. The AMP IV usesthe same marks.
· Wrong speaker polarization will result in severe lossof sound qual-
ity!
Important
· Althoughthe AMPIVhasan effective protection system to pre-
vent damage to the circuits,switch off theunit while working on
the speaker and/or audio cables.
· Ifyou use2or moreamplifiersof yourAMPIVfor bi-amping,
pleasemakeabsolutely sure,that you removed any jumpersat
the terminalsof your speakers(pleaseconsult the user'smanual
of your speakers), before you switch on the system.Otherwisethe
speakersand/or amplifierscould suffer damage!
· The nominal loudspeaker impedance should be 4 Ohmsor higher.
· Never use force or toolstightening the terminal screws.
6 Operating
6.1 Switching on/off
Firstswitch on the AMP IV using the mainsswitch 5on the back panel.
For about 2secondsthe LEDwill flashrapidly while the unit isinitial-
ized. Afterwards, the AMP IV isin stand-by mode; the LED isoff.
Press power key on thefront panel to switch on the unit. The LEDon the
front panel reportsthepolarizationof mainsphasefor afew seconds(see
sections 'Mainsphasedetection')until the speaker outputsare enabled.
The AMP IV isnow ready to playback music.
Toswitch off the AMP IV press power key on the front panel again. The
unit isin stand-by mode; the LED isoff.

Note
· During shut down procedure the LEDwillflash7times.Before you
can switchon the AMP IV again, you have to wait until the shut
down procedure isfinished andthe LEDif off. Do not switch off the
amplifier with the mainsswitch 5 at the backpanel duringshut
down procedure.
6.2 Mains phase detection
The AMP IV isable todetect thecorrect polarization of the mainsplug.
After pressing the power key until the speaker outputsare enabled, the
LED will flash in different rhythms:
· If the polarization iscorrect, the LED flashesslowly: Ä___Ä___Ä…
· If you see the LEDflashing rapidly: Ä_Ä_Ä_Ä_Ä…pleaseswitch
off the unit and flipthe mainsplug. Ifyou nowswitch on the
AMP IV again, the unit should show the correct mainspolarization
by a slowlyflashing LED.
6.3 Audionet Link
For your convenience,the AMP IV can be controlled remotely by one of
Audionet'smulti-channel pre amplifiersMAP or MAP 1, aswell asone
of Audionet'sstereo pre amplifiersPREorPRE1 using the 'Audionet
Link'interface.
You only need asimple optical 'Toslink'cable to connect the'Audionet
Link'output of your Audionet pre amplifier to the 'Audionet Link'input
11 of yourAMP IV.Now, the AMP IV will be switched on/off auto-
matically, when you switch on/off your pre amplifier at the front panel or
by remote control.
In caseyouwould like to automatically control further Audionet unitsin
your systemwith the 'Audionet Link'interface, pleaseconnect the
'Audionet Link'output10 of your AMP IV to the 'Audionet Link'input
of the next Audionet unit using a simple optical 'Toslink'cable.
Note
· The 'switch on'signal isissued to any further Audionet unitsdaisy
chained tothe 'Audionet Link'output of your AMP IV with alittle
delay to avoid all unitsswitching on at the samemoment, which
could cause an overload of your mainsfuse.
· Independently from the 'Audionet Link'interface, you can switch
on/off yourAMP IV at any time by using the power keyon the front
plate.

7 Protection system
Your Audionet AMP IV isequipped with apowerful protection system
that safeguardsyour speakersand itself.
In caseof an error theAMP IV will report the causeintwo steps.First,
the LEDonthe frontpanel will flashthe number of the error occurred.
Justcount how often the LEDflashesand check that number with the
following table:
1x DC failure:
dangerousDC voltage level at the speaker output: defective pre am-
plifier, source or active crossover carrying DC
2x High frequency (HF):
high frequency oscillation, pleasecheck yourinput source
3x Overload:
short-circuit of a loudspeaker cable or speaker isdefective
4x Temperature:
do not cover the ventilation slotsof your AMP IV
Press power key at the frontpanel. Now, the AMP IV reportsthe number
of the erroneouschannel. Counthow oftenthe LEDflashestoget the
channel number. The channel number isprinted on theback panelright
beside the speaker terminals1 ,2 ,3 and 4 ,and alsoprinted below
the line inputs8 ,9 ,12 and 13 .
Press power key againto enter stand-by mode.
Important
· Remove cause of error before switching on the AMP IV again!
Note
· The AMP IV will report the error code or channel number repeatedly
until you press the power key at the front panel.
· Betweeneach repetitionof the error report isasmall pauseof about1
second. During thispause the LED isoff.

Example
An error occurred. The AMP IV switchesoff the speakers,andthe LED
on the front panel flashes:

According to the tableabove 2 flashesdenote 'High Frequency Error'.
Now, pressthe power key. The AMP IV willreport the channel number.
The LED flashes:
Ä_Ä_Ä_Ä______Ä_Ä_Ä_Ä______Ä_Ä_Ä_Ä...
Between thepauses,you can count 4flashesof the LEDwhich denotes
that the error occurred in channel nr. 4.
To enter stand-by mode please press the power key again.

8 Security notes
Important
· Avoid packaging material, especially plastic bags,coming into chil-
dren'shands!
· Store and operate theunit in adry room at areasonable room tem-
perature only!
· Avoid moisture, any liquids,dirty or small objectsgetting into the
unit!
· Set up the unit in a sufficiently ventilated environment!
· Do not cover the unit!
· Do not open the unit. Unauthorised openingwill void warranty!
· Do not short circuit the outputs!
· If you use2or more amplifiersof your AMP IV for bi-amping,
pleasemakeabsolutely sure, thatyou removed any jumpersat the
terminalsofyour speakers(pleaseconsultthe user'smanual of your
speakers), before youswitchonthe system. Otherwisethespeakers
and/or amplifierscould suffer damage!
· For connecting orremoving loudspeakersand/or the pre amplifier the
your AMP IV mustbeswitchedoff to prevent damage on theampli-
fier or the connected units.
· Use dry cloth for cleaning!
