Important
·During connecting and removing ofsourcesor amplifiers tothe
SAMG2all unitsofyouraudiosystem havetobeswitchedoffto
preventdamage ofthe SAM G2 oranyofthe other connectedunits.
·Pleasemakesurethatall cablesareinabsolutebestconditions!
Broken shieldsor short-cutcablescoulddamage the SAM G2
and/or any other connected unit.
4.1Placement
Important
·Itisrecommended toplacethe SAMG2intoahighqualityrackor
onto a stable table.
·Do notexposetheunitto directsunlight.
·Do notcovertheventilation slots.
·Do notplace the SAMG2 in close range to heatsourceslike radiators.
·Donotplace theSAMG2on topofotherunits,especiallynoton top
ofpoweramplifiers,preamplifiers orsimilarthatproduce heat.Both
unitscouldsufferdamage fromthermaloverload.
·Do notuse the unit in placeswhereitisexposed to vibrations.
·Donotplace the unitclosetoloudspeakers orintothe cornerofa
roomwhereitisexposed tohighlevelsofsonicenergy,which might
reduce the sound qualityofthe unit.
4.2Mainsconnection
The mainsinput9 *isonthe backpanelofthe SAMG2. Toconnectthe
unit tomainsuse the included mainscord.Ifyou prefertouse adifferent
powercordmakesure thatit meetsthe specificationsforyourhome country.
Important
·The electricalspecificationsofyour homecountry mustmeetthe
electricalspecificationsprinted ontothe back panel.

·The SAMG2isaClass Iunit andmustbe earthed. Pleaseensurea
stableearthconnection. Phase('hot'pin)ismarked onthebackpanel
('phase')11 .
·Ifyou connectthemainscordpleasemakesurethatmainsswitch
10 atthebackpanelisswitchedoff.
·Neverpull the mainsplugwhile the SAMG2 isswitchedon!Beforeyou
pull the mainscordoff itssocket9 atthe backpanel,powerdownthe
unit to stand-bymode and switch off the unit usingmainsswitch 10.
Onlyincasesofextended absence– likevacations–orifmassivetrouble
on themainspoweristobeexpected you shouldswitch offtheSAMG2
fromthe mainsusingthe mainsswitch 10.Todisconnectthe unitcom-
pletelyfrommainspullthe mainsplug.
Tip
·Theuseofhighqualitymainscords(e.g.AudionetP10)couldim-
prove sound quality. Askyourlocaldealerformore information.
4.3Orientation ofmainsplug
Thecorrectpolarizationofmainsisimportantforreasonsofaudioclarity
and stability.Pleaseconnectthe mainscordsothatthe hotpinofthe wall
outletisconnected tothepinofthe mainsinput11marked 'PHASE'9 .
YourAudionetSAMG2isabletodetectawrongpolarization ofthe
mainsplugduringstart-up. Ifthe message

5Inputs and outputs
Important
·During connectingandremoving ofsourcesor amplifierstothe
SAM G2all unitsofyouraudiosystemhave tobe switched off to
preventdamage ofthe SAM G2or any ofthe other connected
units.
·Pleasemakesurethatall cablesareinabsolutebestconditions!

5.1Inputs
The SAMG2isequippedwithfiveRCA inputs2 to6 and one bal-
anced (XLR)input1 forconnectingsignalsourcesatline level.
Pleaseconnectthe leftand rightinputofthesamenumberprinted onthe
backpanelofthe SAMG2tothe correspondingoutputofthe source you
would like toconnecttotheSAMG2.
5.2Speakerterminals
Connectyourspeakers tothe goldplated terminals7 and 8 on the
backpanelofthe SAMG2.You can usebanana plugsorspadesaswell
assimplecableends.Lookoutforthecorrectconnection ofyourspeaker
cables.Usually,the terminalsofyourspeakersaremarked '+'and '-'.The
SAMG2 usesthe same marks.
Note
·Wrongspeakerpolarization will result in severe lossofsound quality.
·Incaseyou wouldliketobi-wireyourspeakers pleaseinsertthe ca-
bletothe tweetersfromtherearusingbanana plugsand mountthe
cablestothe bassspeakersfromthe side.Indoubtpleaseaskyour
dealerforassistance.
Important
·Although theSAM G2hasan effective protection systemtopre-
ventdamage tothecircuits,switch off theunit whileworkingon
the speaker and/or audiocables.

·The nominalloudspeakerimpedance shouldbe atleast4 Ohmsor
higher.
·Neveruse force ortoolstighteningthe terminalscrews.
5.3Preamplifier Output
TheSAMG2isequippedwithapair ofRCA preamplifieroutputsto
connecte.g. an additionalamplifierora subwoofer.
Pleaseusehighqualityinterconnectorstoconnectthe PREOUT 16 of
yourSAMG2 withan additionalamplifierorsubwoofer.
5.4Recording devices
You can connectone recordingdevice tothe SAMG2forrecordingand
playback.
Connectyourrecordingdevice (likeDATortaperecorder)tothere-
cordingoutput REC OUT 15 ofthe SAMG2. Forplaybackpleasecon-
nectyourrecordingdevice onlytoinputno. 5 IN 5 5 ofthe SAMG2, if
it isalsoconnectedtotheoutput REC OUT 15 ofyourSAMG2.Ifyou
selectinputno. 5 IN 5 5 the output REC OUT 15 isswitchedoff to
preventanyfeedbackloopsbetweenyourrecording device and the
SAMG2.
Pleaseuseinputsno. 1 1tono. 4 4andno. 66 toconnectsources
you like to recordfrom. With theseinputsthe recording output REC OUT
15 isalwaysactive.
5.5Phono
TheSAMG2canbe upgraded withaphono preamplifierboard.Inthis
caseusethe inputno. 6 IN 6 6marked as PHONO toconnectyour
turntabletothe SAMG2. Connecttheearthwireofyourturntabletothe
earthconnector GND 13 .Forfurtherinformation on the optionalphono
preamplifierboardpleaserefertoitsuser'smanual.
Important
·Ifthe SAMG2isupgradedwiththe optionalphonomodule, input
no. 6 IN 6 11 mustonlybe used toconnecta turntable.
·You cannotuseinputno. 6 IN 6 11forBy-Pass mode (see section
'SetChannelforBy-Pass Mode'on page 22).

5.6Headphones socket
A6.3 mmheadphonessocketislocatedattherearofyourSAMG2. The
signalatthissocketcan beswitched on andofftoallowthe headphones
tobeplugged inpermanently.Switchingiseasilydoneon thefrontpanel,
pleasereferto section 'SetOutputMode'on page 20.
5.7Audionet Link
Foryourconvenience, theSAMG2can switch on/off all otherAudionet
units(e.g.poweramplifiers) connected viaAudionetLinkbyasimple
touch on the remote controlorthe power keyon the frontpanel.
You onlyneed asimpleoptical'Toslink'cable. Connectthe Audionet
Linkoutput Link OUT 12ofyourSAMG2totheAudionetLinkinput
ofthe unit to be controlled.

6Usage
All functionsoftheSAMG2aremicroprocessorcontrolled.Thisguaran-
teeshighestprecision,exclusivefunctions,easyhandlingand protection
againstoperatingerrors.
6.1Powering up
Firstofall, please make sure yourSAMG2 isconnected correctlyto your
signalsourcesandmains(see section 'Installation andpowersupply'on
page 8 and 'Inputsand outputs'on page 11).
TheSAMG2isastand-by unit.Pleaseoperatethe mainsswitch 10 on
the backpanel.The display showsawelcomemessageforabriefmo-
ment. Afterthatthe SAMG2 isin stand-bymode.
Onlyincasesofextended absence (likevacations)orif massivetrouble
on the mainspoweristobe expected(e.g.thunderstorms) itisrecom-
mended to disconnectthe SAMG2 fromthe mains. While the SAMG2 is
instand-bymode, operatemainsswitch 10 onthe backpanel.Todis-
connecttheSAMG2frommainscompletely,you havetopullthemains
cord off the mainsjack9 .
Important
·Before you switch offthe SAM G2frommains,power downand
discharge completelyallunitsconnected tothe outputsofthe
SAM G2.
6.2Switching on and off
Topowerup the SAMG2fromstand-bymode, pressthe power keyon
the frontpanel.The SAMG2displaysthemessage Waking up....In
casethemainsplughastheincorrectpolarization awarningwill appear
inthe display(see section 'Mainsphasedetection'on page15).Afterthat
the unitisin normaloperatingmode and readyto use.
Ifyou would like to switch off the unit, please press the power keyon the
frontpanel.Thedisplayshowsthe message Going to sleep.. and
unit entersthe stand-bymode.

·Ofcourse,you mayswitch on/offtheSAMG2withtheAudionet
MetalRemoteControl RC 1 or RC 2.Fordetailedinformation please
referto section 'AudionetMetalRemote Control'on page 26.

6.3Mainsphase detection
Thecorrectpolarizationofmainsisimportantforreasonsofaudioclarity
and stability.Pleaseconnectthe mainscordthatthe 'hot'pinofthewall
outletisconnected to the pin marked 'phase'11 ofthe mainsinput9on
the backpanel.TheSAMG2recognizestheincorrectpolarization ofthe
mainsplugautomatically.Rightafterswitchingon the unit fromstand-by
mode bypressingthe power key on the frontpanelthe followingmes-
sage willappearinthe displayin casethe mainspolarization isincorrect:

Ifyou read the abovemessage, switch offthe unit bypressingthe power
key.Pleasewaituntilthedisplayno longerreads Goingto sleep....
Disconnectthe SAMG2frommainsbyoperatingthemainsswitch 10 .
Nowpullthe mainsplugand re-insertitintothemainssocketrotatedby
180°.
Ifyou switch on the unit again, the warningshouldnotappearnow.
Important
·Ifthe SAMG2issuesthe mainspolarization warningorno warning
atallforbothpositionsofthemainsplug,checktheconnection to
earthofyourmainssocketand mainscord. You havetoensure a
stableconnectiontoearthfor the mainsphasedetection ofthe
SAM G2 towork correctly!
6.4Using Audionet Link
The SAMG2isequipped withan AudionetLinkoutput Link OUT 12
allowingyou toswitch on/off furtherAudionetunits(e.g.poweramplifi-
ers,CD playerortuner)connected viaAudionetLink (alsoseesection
'AudionetLink'on page 13).
Ifthe restofyourAudionetsystemisconnected toyourSAMG2via
AudionetLink,alllinked unitswillbeautomaticallyswitchedon/offas
soon asyou switch on/offyourSAMG2usingthe power keyon the
frontpanelorthekey PRE on the AudionetMetalRemoteControl RC 1
or RC 2.

·Pleasereadsection'AudionetLink'on page13. Also, consultthe
user'smanualofyourAudionetcomponentsconnectedviaAudionet
Linkforfurtherinformation.

·Ifyou switch offyourAudionetchainusingAudionetLink,it isim-
portanttowaituntil all devicesareshutdownbeforeyou restartthe

6.6Volume control
Whilethe SAMG2isinnormaloperatingmode usekeys up and down
on the frontpaneltoadjustthe volume. up increases, down decreasesthe
volume.
The volume controlofthe SAMG2 runsin a range from–80 dBto +0 dB
relativelyto the leveloftheinputsignal.

·Usekeys up and down alsotochangean option fromthe setup menu

Pushthe set keyon the frontpanelonce forlessthantwoseconds,then
selectthedesired inputchannelwiththekeys up and down.The2nd line
ofthedisplayprovidesthe numberand the (user-definable)nameofthe

currentlyselected inputchannel.Push set againtoactuallyswitch tothe
desired inputchannel.
Note
·Leavethe inputselection function byholdingdownthe set key
longerthan 2 seconds.
·Usingthe AudionetMetalRemoteControl RC 1 or RC 2,selectan
inputchannelbyusingthe keys CH+ and CH- toswitchtothe next
orpreviousinputchannelwithoutusingthe SelectInput func-
tion.
·Ifyou dedicated oneoftheinputchannels1to5totheBy-Pass func-
tion(seesection 'SetChannelforBy-Pass Mode'on page 22),thisinput
channelismarked by'*'afterthechannelnumberinthe displaydur-
inginputselectiontoremind you thatswitchingtothisinputchannel
will activatethe By-Pass Mode.
6.9Muting
Note
·ThemutefunctionisonlyavailableontheAudionetMetalRemote
Control RC 1 or RC 2.
Press keyon the AudionetMetalRemoteControl RC 1 or RC 2 to
mute orun-mute yourSAMG2.
The SAMG2uses'soft'muting,i.e.volumeisstepped downgentlyto
-80 dB.The displayinformsthe userofamuted unitwiththe text MUTE.
Even if the brightnesslevelissetto Off, the textisdisplayed (see section
'SetDisplay Brightness'on page 20).
Toun-mutethe SAMG2presskeyagain. Hereaswell,the volumeis
stepped up gentlytoitsoriginallevelafterswitchingonthe outputs.
Note
·Whilethe unit ismuted, you mayofcourseselectadifferentinput
channelas described above. Butthe SAMG2 will staymuted until you
press thekeyagaintoun-muteand restorethe originalvolume
level.
·Ifyouturnup the volumebyusingthe key up or VOL+,whilethe
SAMG2ismuted, the mutingfunction will bedeactivated andthenew
volume levelset.

7Setup menu
Toadjustthe SAMG2 to yourpreferences, please use the setup menu.
Pushthe set keyon the frontpanellongerthantwosecondstogotothe
firstitemofthe setupmenu. Navigatetothe nextmenu item,bypushing
the set keyagainforlessthan twoseconds.Belowisalistofallmenu
itemsofthe setup menu.
Afterthe lastmenu itemyouwill leavethe setup menu automatically.Of
course, you mayleavethe setup menu fromeach menu itembyholding
the set keydown forlongerthan twoseconds.The SAMG2 willreturn to
the normaloperatingmode.
Theorderofitemsinthe setup menu is:

Change anysettingofamenu itembyusingthe keys up and down on the
frontpanel.
Note
·Ifyoumakeno adjustmentsforlongerthan 12 secondsthe SAMG2
will automaticallyleavethesetupmenu and returntonormaloperat-
ingmode.
·Whileyou areinthesetup menu the displaybrightnessissetto 100%
forbetterreadability.Afterleavingthe setup menu the display
brightness isautomaticallyresetto itsuserselected level.

·Ifyou powerdowntheSAMG2tostand-bymodeallsettingsare
stored automaticallyinthe non-volatilememoryofthe unit.Even af-
terdisconnectingfrommainsthe SAMG2will stillrememberyour
settings.
In the followingalloptionsofthe setup menu are explained in detail.
7.1Set OutputMode
Pushthe set keyon thefrontpanellongerthantwosecondstoenterthe
setup menu and gettothe menu item SetOutputMode.Nowusethe
keys up and down to selectthe desired outputconfiguration.
Thetwosymbols and inthe displayshowif thespeakerand/orthe
headphonesoutputisactivated.
Speakers only The headphonesoutput PHONES 14
isdisabled.
Headphones only Onlythe headphonesoutput PHONES
14 isactive. The speakeroutputs7
and 8 are disabled.
Speakers & Headphones The headphonesoutput PHONES 14
and thespeakeroutputs7 and 8 are
active.
Note
·Ifthe option Headphones only isselected, the preamplifierout-
put PREOUT 7 will be automaticallydisabled.
7.2Set DisplayBrightness
Toadjustthe brightness ofthe displayon the frontpaneloftheSAMG2
pushand holdthe set keylongerthan 2secondstoenterthesetup menu.
Thenpushthe set keyonceforless than twosecondstogettomenu item
SetDisplay Brightness.Nowusekeys up and down toselectthe desired
brightness.Key up increases, key down decreasesthe brightness.
Important
·Long-termusage ofthe display settomaximumbrightness (set-
ting 100%)may causeextended signsofwearresulting inadecay
ofcontrastor brightness ofindividualdots inthe display. Donot
