4 Installation and powersupply
Important
·During connecting and removing of sources or amplifiers to the
SAM G2 all unitsofyour audiosystemhaveto beswitchedoffto
prevent damage of the SAM G2 or any of the other connected units.
·Pleasemakesure that all cablesare in absolute bestconditions!
Broken shieldsor short-cut cablescould damagethe SAMG2
and/or anyother connected unit.
4.1Placement
Important
·It isrecommended to place the SAMG2 into ahigh quality rack or
onto a stable table.
·Do not expose the unitto direct sunlight.
·Do not cover the ventilation slots.
·Do not place the SAM G2 in closerange to heat sourceslike radiators.
·Do not place theSAMG2 on top of other units,especially not ontop
of power amplifiers,pre amplifiersor similarthat produce heat. Both
unitscould suffer damage from thermal overload.
·Do not usethe unit in placeswhere it isexposed to vibrations.
·Do not place theunitcloseto loudspeakersor into the corner of a
room where it isexposed to highlevelsof sonic energy, which might
reduce the sound quality of the unit.
4.2Mains connection
The mainsinput 9 *ison thebackpanel oftheSAM G2. Toconnectthe
unit to mainsusetheincluded mainscord. Ifyou preferto useadifferent
power cord make sure that it meetsthe specificationsfor your home country.
Important
·The electrical specificationsof your home country mustmeet the
electrical specificationsprinted onto the backpanel.

·The SAMG2 isaClass I unit and mustbeearthed. Pleaseensurea
stable earth connection. Phase('hot'pin) ismarked on the backpanel
('phase')11.
·If you connect the mainscord pleasemakesure thatmainsswitch
10 at the back panel isswitchedoff.
·Never pull the mainsplug while the SAMG2 isswitched on! Before you
pull themainscord offitssocket9attheback panel,power downthe
unit to stand-by mode and switch off the unit using mainsswitch 10 .
Only in casesof extended absence–like vacations–or if massive trouble
on the mainspower isto be expected you should switchoff the SAMG2
from the mainsusingthe mainsswitch 10 .Todisconnect theunit com-
pletely from mainspull the mainsplug.
Tip
·The useof high quality mainscords(e.g. Audionet P10) couldim-
prove sound quality. Ask your local dealer for more information.
4.3Orientation of mains plug
The correctpolarizationof mainsisimportant for reasonsof audioclarity
and stability. Pleaseconnect themainscordsothatthehot pin of the wall
outlet isconnected to the pin of the mainsinput 11 marked 'PHASE'9 .
Your Audionet SAMG2 isableto detect awrong polarization of the
mainsplug during start-up. If the message
Attention: ◄
Mains phase incorrect ◄
appearsin the display, switch off the unit and flip the mainsplug in the
wall outlet (see section'Mainsphase detection'on page 15).

5 Inputsand outputs
Important
·During connecting and removing of sourcesoramplifiersto the
SAM G2 all unitsof your audiosystem have to be switched off to
prevent damage of the SAM G2 or any of the other connected
units.
·Pleasemakesure that all cablesare in absolute bestconditions!
Broken shieldsor short-cut cablescould damagethe SAMG2
and/or anyother connected unit.
5.1Inputs
The SAMG2 isequipped with five RCA inputs2 to6 and one bal-
anced (XLR) input 1 for connecting signal sourcesat line level.
Pleaseconnect theleftand right input of the same number printed on the
back panel of the SAMG2 to the corresponding output of the source you
would like to connect to the SAMG2.
5.2Speaker terminals
Connect your speakersto the gold plated terminals7 and 8 on the
back panelof the SAMG2. Youcan usebanana plugsor spadesaswell
assimple cable ends.Look out for the correct connection of yourspeaker
cables.Usually, the terminalsof your speakersare marked '+'and '-'.The
SAMG2 usesthe same marks.
Note
·Wrong speaker polarization will result in severe loss of sound quality.
·In caseyou would like to bi-wire your speakerspleaseinsert the ca-
ble to the tweetersfromthe rear using banana plugsand mount the
cablesto the bass speakersfrom the side. In doubt pleaseaskyour
dealer for assistance.
Important
·Although the SAM G2 hasan effective protection system topre-
vent damage to the circuits,switch off theunit while working on
the speaker and/or audio cables.

·The nominal loudspeaker impedance should be at least4 Ohmsor
higher.
·Never use force or toolstightening the terminal screws.
5.3 Preamplifier Output
The SAMG2 isequipped with apair of RCA preamplifier outputsto
connect e.g. an additional amplifier or a subwoofer.
Pleaseusehigh quality interconnectorsto connect the PREOUT 16 of
your SAMG2 with an additional amplifier or subwoofer.
5.4 Recording devices
You can connect onerecording device to the SAMG2for recording and
playback.
Connect your recording device (like DATor tape recorder) to the re-
cording output REC OUT 15 of the SAMG2. For playback pleasecon-
nect your recording device only to input no.5 IN5 5 of the SAMG2, if
it isalsoconnected to the output REC OUT 15 of your SAMG2. If you
select inputno. 5 IN 5 5 the output RECOUT 15 isswitchedoff to
prevent anyfeedbackloopsbetween your recording deviceand the
SAMG2.
Pleaseuseinputsno. 1 1 to no. 4 4 and no. 6 6 toconnect sources
you like to record from. With these inputsthe recording output REC OUT
15 isalwaysactive.
5.5 Phono
The SAMG2 can be upgraded with aphono pre amplifier board. In this
caseusethe input no. 6 IN 6 6marked as PHONO to connect your
turntable to the SAMG2. Connect the earth wire of your turntable to the
earth connector GND 13 .For further information on the optionalphono
pre amplifier board please refer to itsuser'smanual.
Important
·If the SAMG2 isupgraded with the optional phono module, input
no. 6 IN 6 11 must only be usedto connect a turntable.
·Never useinput no. 6 IN 6 11 forBy-Pass mode, if your SAMG2 is
equipped with an optional phono module (see section'Special func-
tion By-Pass Mode'on page 30).

5.6Headphones socket
A6.3 mm headphonessocket islocated at the rear of your SAMG2. The
signal at thissocket can be switched on and off to allowthe headphones
to be plugged in permanently. Switching iseasilydoneon thefront panel,
please refer to section 'Set Output Mode'on page 20.
5.7Audionet Link
For your convenience,the SAMG2 can switch on/off all other Audionet
units(e.g. power amplifiers)connected viaAudionet Link by asimple
touch on the remote control or the power key on the front panel.
You only need asimple optical'Toslink'cable. Connect the Audionet
Link output LinkOUT 12 of your SAMG2 to the Audionet Link input
of the unit to be controlled.

6 Usage
All functionsof the SAMG2 aremicroprocessor controlled. Thisguaran-
teeshighestprecision,exclusivefunctions,easyhandling and protection
against operating errors.
6.1Powering up
Firstof all, pleasemake sureyourSAMG2 isconnectedcorrectly to your
signal sourcesand mains(seesection 'Installation and powersupply'on
page 8 and 'Inputsandoutputs'onpage 11).
The SAMG2 isastand-by unit.Pleaseoperate the mainsswitch 10 on
the backpanel. The display showsawelcome message for abrief mo-
ment. After that the SAMG2 isin stand-by mode.
Only in casesof extended absence (like vacations)or if massivetrouble
on the mainspoweristo beexpected (e.g. thunder storms)it isrecom-
mended to disconnectthe SAMG2from the mains.While the SAMG2 is
in stand-by mode, operate mainsswitch 10 on the back panel. Todis-
connect theSAMG2 from mainscompletely,you have to pull the mains
cord off the mainsjack9 .
Important
·Before youswitch off the SAM G2 from mains,power down and
discharge completely all unitsconnected to the outputsof the
SAM G2.
6.2Switching on and off
Topower up the SAMG2 from stand-by mode, pressthe power key on
the front panel. The SAMG2 displaysthemessage Waking up....In
casethemainsplug hasthe incorrect polarization awarning will appear
in the display (seesection 'Mainsphasedetection'on page 15). After that
the unit isin normal operating mode and ready to use.
If you would like to switch off the unit, pleasepressthe power keyon the
front panel. The display showsthe message Going to sleep.. and
unit entersthe stand-by mode.

·Of course,you may switch on/off the SAMG2 withthe Audionet
System Remote Control Harmony One.For detailed information
please refer to section 'Screen 2'on page 29

6.3 Mains phase detection
The correctpolarizationof mainsisimportant for reasonsof audioclarity
and stability. Pleaseconnect the mainscordthat the 'hot'pin of the wall
outlet isconnected to the pin marked 'phase'11 of the mainsinput 9 on
the back panel. The SAMG2 recognizestheincorrect polarization of the
mainsplugautomatically. Right after switching on theunit from stand-by
mode by pressing the power keyon the front panel the following mes-
sage will appear in the display incase the mainspolarization isincorrect:

Mains phase incorrect ◄
If you read the above message, switch off the unit by pressing the power
key. Please wait until the displayno longer reads Going to sleep....
Disconnectthe SAMG2 from mainsby operating the mainsswitch 10 .
Now pull the mainsplug and re-insert it intothe mainssocket rotated by
180°.
If you switch on the unit again, the warning should not appear now.
Important
·If the SAMG2 issuesthe mainspolarization warning or no warning
at all for both positionsof the mainsplug, check theconnectionto
earth of your mainssocket and mainscord. You haveto ensure a
stable connection to earth forthe mainsphasedetection of the
SAM G2 to workcorrectly!
6.4 Using Audionet Link
The SAMG2 isequipped with an Audionet Link output LinkOUT 12
allowing you to switch on/off further Audionet units(e.g. power amplifi-
ers,CD player or tuner) connected via Audionet Link (alsosee section
'Audionet Link'on page 13).
If the restof your Audionet system isconnected toyour SAMG2 via
Audionet Link, all linked unitswill be automatically switched on/off as
soon asyouswitch on/off your SAMG2 using the power key on the
front panel or the Audionet System Remote Control Harmony One.
Note
·Pleasereadsection 'Audionet Link'on page 13. Also, consult the
user'smanual of your Audionet componentsconnectedvia Audionet
Link for further information.

·If you switch off your Audionet chain usingAudionet Link, it isim-
portant to wait until all devicesare shut down beforeyou restart the
system.
6.5Control elements on the front panel
The front panel hasfour keysto control the SAMG2 (seesection
'Overview front panel'on page 7). With thesekeysyou can control all
functionsaswell asallsetup optionsto adjustthe unit to your preferences
(see section'Setup menu'on page 19).
power Usekey to switch on/off the unit (see section 'Switching
on and off'on page 14).
set Pushkey shortly to navigate through the setup menu.
Keep key pushed for longer than two secondsto exit the
setup menu(see section'Setup menu'on page 19).
down Pushkey toreduce volume, select previousinput chan-
nel (seesection 'Input selection'on page 17)or change
an option of the setupmenu (see section 'Setup menu'
on page 19).
up Pushkey to increasevolume, select next input channel
(see section 'Inputselection'on page 17) or change an
option of the setup menu (see section 'Setupmenu'on
page 19).
6.6 Volumecontrol
While the SAMG2 isin normal operating mode usekeys up and down
on the front panel to adjustthe volume. up increases, down decreasesthe
volume.
The volume control ofthe SAMG2 runsin a range from –80 dB to +0 dB
relatively to the level of the input signal.

·Usekeys up and down alsoto change an option from the setup menu
(see section 'Setup menu'on page 19) aswell asto select an input
channel (see section 'Input selection'on page 17).

6.7 Display
The displayprovidesin the normal operating mode the following infor-
mation:
1Statusof theloudspeaker output mode (see section 'SetOutput Mode'
on page 20).
2Statusof theheadphonesoutput mode (seesection 'Set Output Mode'
on page 20).
3Name of the currently selected input channel, fully user-definable
(see section'Edit Channel Name'on page 22).
4Statusof the preamplifier outputmode (seesection 'Set Pre Output
Mode'on page 21).
5Number of currently selected input channel, correspondsto the
number printed abovethe input jack on theback panel(see section
'Overview back panel'on page 8).
6Current volume levelin dB relative to the input level (see section
'Volume control'on page 16).
Assoonas you enter the setupmenu by pushing the set key, thedisplay
changestoshow information related to the selected menu item.For fur-
ther displaydetailsrefer to the description of each menu item in section
'Setup menu'starting from page 19.
Note
·After 10 minuteswithout any user interaction the 'display saver'is
invoked automatically. The display then showsonly the numberof
the currently selected input channel and the current volume level.
6.8 Input selection
Pushthe set key on the front panel once forless than two seconds,then
select the desired input channel with the keys up and down.The2nd line
of the display providesthe number and the (user-definable) nameof the
currently selected input channel.

·Leave the input selection function by holding down the set key
longer than 2 seconds.
·Using the Audionet System Remote Control Harmony One,selectan
input channel by simply pressing the corresponding key (see section
'Screen 1'on page 28), or usethekeys Ch+ and Ch- to switchto
the next or previousinput channelwithout using the Select Input
function.
6.9 Muting
Note
·The mute function isonly available on the Audionet System Remote
Control Harmony One.
Press key on the Audionet System Remote Control Harmony One to
mute or un-mute your SAMG2.
Justaswell asthe input selection, the SAMG2 uses'soft'muting, i.e.
volume isstepped downgently to -80 dB. The displayinformsthe user of
amuted unit with thetext MUTE.Even ifthe brightness level isset to
Off,the text isdisplayed (see section 'Set Display Brightness'onpage
21).
Toun-mutethe SAMG2 press key again. Here aswell, the volume is
stepped up gently to itsoriginal level after switching on the outputs.
Note
·Whiletheunit ismuted, you may of course selectadifferent input
channel as described above. ButtheSAM G2 will stay muted until you
press thekey again to un-muteand restoretheoriginal volume
level.
·If you turnup thevolume by using thekey up or Vol+ ,while the
SAM G2 ismuted, themuting function will be deactivatedand thenew
volume level set.

7 Setup menu
To adjust the SAMG2 to your preferences,please use the setup menu.
Pushthe set key on the front panel for less than two secondsto go to the
firstitem ofthe setup menu. Navigate to the next menu item, by pushing
the set keyagain for less thantwo seconds.Below isalistof allmenu
itemsof the setup menu.
After the lastmenu item you willleave the setup menu automatically. Of
course, you may leave the setup menu fromeach menu item byholding
the set key down for longer than two seconds. The SAMG2 will return to
the normal operating mode.
The order of itemsin the setup menu is:

Change any setting of a menu item by using the keys up and down on the
front panel.
Tip
·All settingsof the setupmenu can be dealt with by using the keysof
the front panel. However, if youprefer to changesettingsfrom the
comfort ofyour listening chair, pleaseusethe Audionet System Re-
mote Control Harmony One.For more information about the remote
control and itsusage see section 'Audionet System Remote Control' on
page 25.

·If you makeno adjustmentsfor longer than 12 secondsthe SAMG2
will automatically leave the setupmenu andreturn to normal operat-
ing mode.
·While you are in the setup menu the display brightness isset to 100%
for better readability. After leaving the setup menu the display
brightness isautomatically reset to itsuser selected level.
·If you power down the SAMG2 to stand-by mode all settingsare
stored automatically inthe non-volatile memory of the unit. Evenaf-
ter disconnecting from mainsthe SAMG2will still remember your
settings.
In the following all optionsof the setup menu are explained in detail.
7.1 Select Input
Pushthe set key on the front panel once for less than two secondsand
selectthanthe desiredinput channel usingthe keys up and down.The
display showsthe number and the (user-definable) name of the currently
selected input channel. See also section 'Input selection'on page 17.
7.2 Set Output Mode
Pushthe set key on the front panel twice for less than two secondsto
selectthe output mode. Now usethe keys up and down to select the de-
sired output configuration.
The two symbols and in the display show if the speaker and/or the
headphonesoutput isactivated.
Speakers only The headphonesoutput PHONES 14
isdisabled.
Headphones only Only the headphonesoutput PHONES
14 isactive. The speaker outputs7
and 8 are disabled.
Speakers & Headphones The headphonesoutput PHONES 14
and thespeaker outputs7 and8 are
active.
Note
·If the option Headphones only isselected, the preamplifier out-
put PREOUT 7 will be automatically disabled.
