4 Installation and powersupply
Important
·For connecting or removing loudspeakersand/or the pre ampli-
fier your AMPmustbe switched off to prevent damage to the
amplifier or the connected units.
·Pleasemakesure that all cablesare in absolute bestconditions!
Broken shieldsor short-cut loudspeakercablescould damage
speakersand/or amplifiers.
4.1Placement
Your Audionet AMPhastheperfect format for placing it right beside
your speakers.Alternatively, twoAudionetAMPssitting side by side
have exactlythe standard width of 43 cm. It isrecommended to place the
AMP into a high quality rack or onto a stable table.
Important
·Pleasefindaplace foryour Audionet AMPthat issufficiently venti-
lated to allow the heatto dissipate.
·Do not expose the unitto direct sunlight.
·Do not place the AMP in close range to heat sourceslike radiators.
·Do not cover the ventilation slotsof the unit.
4.2Mains connection
The mainsinput 8 *ison the backpanel of the AMP. Toconnect the unit
to mainsusethe included mainscord. If you prefer to useadifferent
power cord make sure that it meetsthe specificationsfor your home
country.
Important
·The electrical specificationsof your home country mustmeet the
electrical specificationsprinted onto the backpanel.

·The AMPisaClass I unit and mustbe earthed. Pleaseensure astable
earth connection. Phase('hot'pin) ismarked on the back panel
('PHASE')7.
·If you connect themainscordpleasemakesure that mainsswitch 9
at the back panel isswitched off.
·Never pull the mainsplug while the AMPisswitched on! Before you
pull the mainscord off itssocket 8 at theback panel,power down
the unit to stand-by mode and switch off theunit using mainsswitch
9 .
Only in casesof extended absence (like vacations)or if massivetrouble
on the mainspower isto be expected youshould switch off the AMP
from the mainsusing mainsswitch 9 .Todisconnect the unit completely
from mainspull the mainsplug.
Tip
·Using high quality mainscordsmay improve thesound quality.
Please consult your local Audionet dealer.
4.3Orientation of mains plug
The correctpolarizationof mainsisimportant for reasonsof audioclarity
and stability. Pleaseconnect themainscordsothatthehot pin of the wall
outlet isconnected to the pin of the mainsinput 8 marked 'PHASE'7 .
Note
·Your Audionet AMPisable todetect awrong polarization of the
mainsplug during start-up. If the message
Attention: Mains
Phase incorrect!
appearsin the display,when youswitchonthe unit from stand-by
mode using the power key, switch off the AMPcompletely and flip
the mainsplug in thewall outlet(see section'Mainsphasedetection'
on page 14).

5 Inputsand outputs
Important
·For connecting or removing loudspeakersand/or the pre ampli-
fier your AMPmustbe switched off to prevent damage to the
amplifier or the connected units.
·Pleasemakesure that all cablesare in absolute bestconditions!
Broken shieldsor short-cut loudspeakercablescould damage
speakersand/or amplifiers.
5.1Inputs
At first, connect your pre amplifier alternatively to inputs2 or 3 of the
AMP. You can useboth aCinch or abalanced (XLR) cable. Forcable
lengthsexceeding 10 m we recommend the use of balanced cables.
Note
·Don'tforgetto activate the input you are using in the setup menu (see
section 'SetInput'on page 21).
5.2Speaker terminals
Now connect your speakersto the gold platedterminalson the backpanel
of the AMP. You can useboth banana plugsor spades aswell assimple
cable ends.The AMPfeaturestwoelectrically identicalspeaker terminals
1 and 4 ,which you may usealternatively. In caseyouwould like to bi-
wire your speakersplease refer tosection 'Bi-Wiring'onpage 12.
Note
·Look out for the correct connection of yourspeaker cables.Usually,
the terminalsof your speakersaremarked '+'and '-'.The AMPuses
the same marks.
·Wrong speaker polarization will result in severe loss of sound quality!

Important
·Although the AMPhasan effective protection system to prevent
damage to the circuits,switch off the unitwhile working on the
speaker and/or audiocables.
·The nominal loudspeaker impedance should be 2 Ohmsor higher.
·Never use force or toolstightening the terminal screws.
5.3Bi-Wiring
If your speakerssupport bi-wiring, usetwo separatecablesto connect
eachspeaker to theoutput terminals1 and4 of theAMP. Impulse
responseand spatiality may improve significantly.
Note
·Again, please mind thecorrect polarization of the speakers!
5.4Audionet Link
For your convenience,the AMPcan be controlled remotely by one of
Audionet'smulti channel pre amplifiers(e.g. MAP orMAP 1) aswell as
one of Audionet'sstereo pre amplifiers(e.g. PRE,PREG2, PRE1 or
PRE1 G3) using the 'Audionet Link'interface.
You only need asimple optical 'Toslink'cable to connect the'Audionet
Link'output of your Audionet pre amplifier to the 'Audionet Link'input
IN 5 of the AMP.
In caseyouwould like to automatically switch on/off further Audionet
unitsin your system (e.g. asecond AMP) using the 'Audionet Link'inter-
face, pleaseconnect the 'Audionet Link'output OUT 6of your AMPto
the 'Audionet Link'input of the next Audionet unit (e.g. power amplifier,
tuner, CD player etc.)using a simple 'Toslink'cable.
Note
·The 'switch on'signal isissued to any further Audionet unitsdaisy
chained to the 'Audionet Link'output of your AMPwith alittle delay
to avoid allunitsswitching on at the samemoment,which could
causean overload of your mainsfuse.
·Pleasereadsection 'Using Audionet Link'onpage 14.Also, consult
the user'smanualsofyour Audionet componentsconnected via
'Audionet Link'for further information.

6 Operating
6.1Powering up
Firstof all, pleasemake sureyour AMPisconnectedcorrectlyto your
pre amplifier, speakersand mains(see section 'Installation andpower
supply'on page 9 and section 'Inputsand outputs'on page 11).
The AMPisastand-by unit. Pleaseoperatethe mainsswitch9on the
back panel.The display showsfor abriefmoment awelcome message.
After that the AMP isin stand-by mode.
Only in casesof extended absence (like vacations)or if massivetrouble
on the mainspower isto be expected it isrecommendedto disconnect the
AMPfrommains.Operate the mainsswitch 9 on the back panel to
switch off the unit from mains. The display will go dark.
Important
·Never pull the mainscord while the AMP isswitched on! Before
you operate the mainsswitch 9 on the backpanelor pull the
mainsplug, power down the unit to stand-by mode first.
6.2Switching on/off
Topower up the AMPfrom stand-by mode, press the power keyon the
front panel. The AMPissuesthe message Waking up....In casethe
mainsplug hasthe incorrect polarization awarning will appearin the
display (seesection 'Mainsphasedetection'on page 14). After that the
unit notifiestheuserof the currently selected input. Now the AMPisin
normal operating mode.
If you would like to switch off the unit, pleasepressthe power keyon the
front panel. The display showsthe message Going to sleep.. which
then will be replaced after a short moment by:
DISCHARGING NOW
please wait...
until the power supply of the AMPisdischarged completely. The unit is
now in stand-by mode.
Note
·During powering down, you may re-start the AMPby pressingthe
power keyon the front panel. The display showsthe message
RE-STARTING....

6.3Mains phase detection
The correctpolarizationof mainsisimportant for reasonsof audioclarity
and stability. Pleaseconnect the mainscordthat the 'hot'pin of the wall
outlet isconnected to the pin marked 'PHASE'7 ofthe mainsinput 8
on the backpanel. The AMPrecognizestheincorrect polarization of the
mainsplugautomatically. Right after switching on theunit from stand-by
mode by pressing the power keyon the front panel the following mes-
sage appearsin the display in case the mainspolarization isincorrect:
Attention: Mains
Phase incorrect!
If you read the abovemessage,power down the unit by pressing the
power key.Please wait until the display no longer reads
DISCHARGING NOW
please wait...
Disconnectthe AMPfrom mainsby operatingthe mainsswitch9 .Now
pull the mainsplug and re-insert it into the mainssocketrotated by 180°.
If you switch on the unit again, the warning should not appear now.
Important
·If the AMPissuesthemainspolarization warning or no warning at all
for both positionsof the mainsplug, check the connection to earth of
your mainssocket and mainscord. You have to ensure astable
connection to earth for the mainsphasedetection of the AMPto
workcorrectly!
6.4Using Audionet Link
If your AMPisconnected to an Audionet pre amplifier via 'Audionet
Link',usethe remote control of the pre amplifier to automatically switch
on/off the AMP(and all other Audionet unitsalsoconnected via 'Audio-
net Link').
For setting up the necessary connectionspleaserefer tosection 'Audionet
Link'on page 12.
Note
·The 'switch on'signal isissued to any further Audionet unitsdaisy
chained to the 'Audionet Link'output of your AMPwith alittle delay
to avoid allunitsswitching on at the samemoment,which could
causean overload of your mainsfuse.
·Independently from the 'Audionet Link'interface, you can switch
on/off yourAMPat any time by using the power key on the front
panel.

6.5AutoStart function
If the AutoStart function isactive, the AMPstartsup automatically to
normal operating moderight afterthe unitisconnectedto mainspower
(e.g. by operating the mainsswitch 9 on theback panel). Usethisoption
to start up the AMP automatically using a timer device. For further details
please refer to section 'Set AutoStart'on page 22.
6.6Auto On/Off function
Your Audionet AMP isequippedwith amulti-stage input signal detection
circuit (Auto On function). If aninput signal isdetected at theinput
(Cinch or balanced (XLR)) crossing the user selectable threshold the
AMPwill switch on automatically. For further detailspleaserefer to sec-
tion 'Set Auto On'on page 21.
Note
·Due to security concernsthe Auto On function will onlybe available
after first manual switching on.
·Becauseof the natureof stereo ormulti-channel signalsit may occur
that the AMPsin your setup will switch on at adifferent point of time
according to each input signal.
·Operate theAMPas usual. Ofcourse, you are stillable to switch
on/off the unit manually.
The AMPwill shut down automatically (Auto Off function) when no
input signalisdetectedfor auser selectable time (30 secondsup to 2
hours). Toactivate andsetup thisfeature pleaserefer tosection 'SetAuto
Off'on page 22.
6.7Warm Up Countdown
While you are absent the AMPcanswitch onautomatically after aprese-
lected time(15 minutesup to 99 hoursand 45 minutes)and isthen pre-
heated andready for alistening session when you get back. Tosetup the
countdown clock press the power key on the front panel longer than 2
seconds(=long keystroke) while the AMPisin stand-by mode. The dis-
play shows:

The cursormarksthedigit of the countdown time toedit. Along key-
stroke movesthe cursor one digit to the right.

Useshort keystrokes(= presskeylessthan2seconds)on the power key
to set the desired digit. Hourscan be programmed in stepsof 1hour, min-
utesin stepsof 15 min. The following diagram explainsthe possible
countdown timer settings:

Activate thecountdown timer by leavingthe timer setup menuwith a
long keystroke. Alternatively, the countdown isstarted automatically if
you do not change anysetting for longer than 12 seconds.
Note
·While the countdown isrunning, the display showsthe remaining
time until automatic start-up:

·If the display saver isactive, the display showsthe remaining count-
down time abbreviated(e.g. 02:43). Pleaserefer to section 'Set Dim
Level'on page 20 for detailed information on the display saver.
If you would like to usethe countdown timer again, simply activate it by
along keystroke: While in stand-by mode press the power keylonger
than 2secondsand wait. After 12secondsthecountdown will start again
with the previousprogrammed time.
Tode-activate arunning countdown justpress the power key for less
than 2 secondsat any time.

7 Protection system
Your Audionet AMPand your loudspeakersare protected by acomplex
protection circuitry. Incaseof amalfunction the display informsthe user
about the nature of the detected error in plaintext:

Even after powering down the AMP, the error messagewill still bein the
display. Press the power key onthe front panel to reset thedisplay to
indicating the stand-bymode.
Important
·Remove cause of error prior to switching on the AMP again!

8 Setup menu
Beyond thefeatureof the 'Warm Up-Countdown'you canadjustthe
AMP to your preferencesusing the setup menu.
List of settingsto be adjusted according to your preferences:
·Brightness of display (Set Dim Level)
·Display mode (Set Display)
·Input selection: balanced (XLR) or Cinch (Set Input)
·Auto On function: threshold for automatic power on (Set Auto On)
·Auto Off function: time to automatic power down (Set Auto Off)
·AutoStart function: automatic start for timer control (Set AutoStart)
Press the power key on the front panel longer than 2seconds(= long
keystroke) to enter the setup menu. Useashort keystroke (= less than 2
seconds) tonavigate to the next menu item.
Select amenu item with along keystroke. Now you can select your de-
sired option with short keystrokes.
Toleave amenu item hold down the power key longer than 2secondsor
simply waitlonger than 12 seconds.If youwould liketo changemore
settingsplease re-enter the setup menu.
While you are in the main menu, get back tonormal operating mode by
waiting longer than 12secondsor navigate to menu item Exit... and
select it.
Note
·In caseyou stop editingany user setting the AMPwill leave the setup
menu automatically after 12 secondsand returnsto normal operating
mode.
·While you are in the setup menu the displaybrightness isadjustedto
100% for better readability. Leaving the setup menu resetsthedis-
play brightness to the user selected level automatically.
·If you power down the unit to stand-by mode, all user settingsare
stored automatically inthe non-volatile memory of the unit. Evenaf-
ter disconnecting from mainstheAMPwill still remember your set-
tings.
The following diagram givesan overview of the structure of thesetup
menu. The subsequentsectionsexplain all optionsof the setup menu in
detail.

8.1Set Dim Level
Select thebrightness of the display on thefront panel. Five settingsare
available: 100%, 75%,50%, 25%and OFF.
Important
·Long-term usage of the displayset to maximum brightness (set-
ting 100%)may causeextended signsof wear resulting in adecay
of contrastor brightness of individual dots in the display. Do not
usethe display with abrightness set higher than the factory de-
fault of 50% over a longer period of time!
Note
·Isthe brightness set to Off the display isonly on during setup ad-
justments,powering up/down and while displaying an error message.
It switchesoff automatically several secondsafter the last user entry.
·The AMPactivatesthe 'Display saver'automatically after 10 minutes
without a user entry.
·While the 'display saver'isactive,in normal operating mode the dis-
play showsthe selectedinput channel or thetemperature (depending
on the selected display mode (Set Display)) in the abbreviated
form Line/XLR In or Temp Cool/Ok/High.The display bright-
ness isautomatically reduced to25%, and the locationof the infor-
mation text will change randomly every 12 secondsto prevent any
'burn-in'effect of the display.
·The 'display saver'isde-activated, and the display returnsto itsnor-
mal mode assoon asany user entry isdetected.
·The user cannot switch off the automatic 'display saver'function!
8.2Set Display
Select the informationthe AMP displayswhile in normal operating mode.
There are two modesavailable:
Standard During normal operating mode the AMPindicatesthe
selected input channel: either Line Input or Bal-
anced Input.
Temperature During normal operating mode the AMPdisplaysits
operating temperaturein 3 steps:
Cool the AMP iscool,
Ok the AMP hasitsnormal operating temperature,
High the AMPisworking at ahighertemperature
under heavy load.
