1. Safety Information
To prevent personal injury or damage to vehicles and/or the scan

torcap,ignionwiresandsparkplugs.Thesecomponentscreatehaz-
ardousvoltageswhentheengineisrunning.Keepareexnguisher
suitableforgasoline/chemical/electricalresnearby.
7. Putthevehicle’stransmissioninPARK(forautomactransmission)or
NEUTRAL(formanualtransmission).Makesuretheparkingbrakeis
engaged.
8. ToavoidacvangtheMalfunconIndicatorLight(MIL),turnothe
ignionbeforeconnecngordisconnecngtheOBDIICablewhenit
isaachedtotheTPMStool.
9. To avoid personal injury and prevent performing unneeded repairs,
refertotheuser’smanualofthevehiclebeingservicedandadhereto
alldiagnoscproceduresandprecauonsdescribed.
10. KeeptheTPMStooldry,clean,freefromoil,waterandgrease.Clean
with a cloth dampened with water and a mild detergent.

2. TPMS System Review
Arepressuremonitoringsystem(TPMS)isanelectronicsystemde-
signedtomonitorvehiclerepressureandalertthedriverviaadash-
boardindicatorlightwhenrepressurefallsbelow25percent(U.S.)
and15-20percent(Europe).Typically,theTPMSconsistsofasensor
aachedtothevalvestemofeachrethatwirelesslytransmitsreand
sensordatatothevehicle’sElectronicControlUnit(ECU).
2.1 TPMS Legislation
IntheUnitedStates,starngin2008,allpassengervehicles,SUVsand
lighttrucksarefederallymandatedtohaveaTirePressureMonitoring
Systeminstalled.IntheEuropeanUnion,byNovember2014,allEurope
an manufacturers were required to install TPMS on all new passenger
vehicles.In2013,SouthKorea,beganitsphase-inofthepassenger
vehicle TPMS mandate and now requires TPMS on all new vehicles with
a gross vehicle weight of 4.5 metric tons (9,921 lbs) or less. Japan
followedwithTPMSmandatesin2015.Russia,Indonesia,thePhilip-
pines,Israel,MalaysiaandTurkeyhaveproposedorpendingTPMS
regulons.
2.2 TPMS Tell-Tale Light

1. Ifthetell-taleindicatorlightsandthenturnso,therepressure
onthevehicleisadequateandthemonitoringsystemisworking-
properly.
2. Ifthetell-taleindicatorlightsandremainsdisplayed,therepres-
sureofoneormoreofthevehicleresislow.
3. Ifthetell-talelightashesfor60to90secondsandthenremains
solid, a problem exists with the TPMS system.

Note: For opmum performance, always keep your tool suciently charged. It is
recommended that you charge the tool for at least two hours before the rst use.
Important: Only use the power adapter or USB cable included with the tool. The
use of unapproved power supplies may damage the tool and void the warranty.

4. Settings Menu
Thetoolallowsyoutomakethefollowingsengsadjustments.
1) Language: Sets language
2) ID Format: Sets to display sensor ID in either Hexadecimal or
Decimal.
3) Pressure Unit:SetsthepressuremeasurementunitinkPa,psi,
or bar.
4) Temperature Unit:Setsunitoftemperature,CelsiusorFahren-
heit.
5) Beep Set:Enables/disableskey-pressbeep.
6) Wheels to Test:SetstestmodetoOneWheelorAllWheels.
7)Auto Power-o:Setstheamountofmethetoolcanremain
idlebeforeitautomacallyturnso.
8)Contrast:AdjuststhecontrastoftheLCDdisplay.
9) Backlight Set:Turnso/onthebacklight.
10)Tool Informaon:Displaystool’sserialnumber,sowareand
hardware versions.

byselecngAllWheelsortotest
onewheelselectOneWheel.

without change.
Note: In All Wheels mode, the tool will check for duplicate sensor ID.
In One Wheel mode, the tool will not check for duplicate sensor IDs.

3) Press the YbuontoconrmthechangeorpresstheNbuonto
exit without change.
Note: The tool will save all test data before automacally turning
o. This data will be available next me the tool is turned on. If
the tool automacally turns o during a test operaon, upon restart
the tool will return to the test screen.
Note:Thetoolwillnotpoweroautomacallywhenconnected
toanexternalpowersupply;poweritobypressingandholding
thepowerbuon.Onlywhenusingitsinternalbaerywillthe
toolautomacallypoweroaerbeingidleforthesetme.
Contrast
1)FromSystemSengsuse
the UP or DOWN Arrow buons
to select Contrast and press the
Ybuon.
2) Using the UP or DOWN
Arrow buons,adjustthescreen
contrast and press the Ybuontoconrmthechangeorpress
the N buontoexitwithoutchange.

Backlight Setting
1)FromSystemSengs,usethe
DOWN Arrowbuontoselectthe
Backlight Set and press the Ybuon.

5. Update Tool Software
Beforerstusingthetool,checktheAutelwebsitetoensureithasthe
latestsowareinstalled.Itisimportanttocheckthewebsiteregularlyfor
sowareupdatestoensurethetoolconnuestoworkwithnewer
vehicles.Autelmakesconsistentimprovementstothetoolssystemso-
ware and expands the tool vehicle coverage.
TheTS401isupdatedviatheMaxiLinkII
sowareinstalledonaWindowsPC
andbydownloadingtheUpdatele
from the Autel.com website.

IMPORTANT:
Both the tool system
UpdateandtheDTCUpdate
MUST be performed for the
tool to operate correctly.

3)ConnecttooltoWindows-based
PCusingthesuppliedUSBand
select Update Mode on the tool.
4)LaunchMaxiLinkIIonthePCand
thenselecttheTS401onthe
le-handsideofthescreenunder
the TPMS tab.
5)UnderUpdateProgram,clickonselectleandbrowsetothenew
sowareupdateyoudownloaded.Openthefolder,selectthele
within (the extension is .bin)andClickUpdate.
Theapplicaonwillcommunicatewiththetoolandupdateitssoware.
ThePCapplicaonandthetoolwilldisplayamessageoncetheupdate
is completed.
6)Next,Under UPDATE DTC,
ClickonSelectFile,(the
extension is .aut)andClickon
OPEN.ClickonUPDATE. The
applicaonwillcommunicate
with the tool and update its
soware.
ThePCapplicaonandthetool
will display a message once the
update is completed.

6. TPMS Sensor Activation
The MaxiTPMS TS401 can acvate all known sensors and read the sensor
ID, frequency, baery level, re pressure and temperature.
TheTS401canacvateTPMSsensorsintwoways:
A.VehicleSelecon:Acvatesensoraerselecngvehiclemake,model
and year.
B.LatestScan:theTS401recordsthelatestacvatedsensordataandthe
sensorscanbere-acvatedbyusingthewavesignalofthelasttest.
Vehicle Selection
1) Use the UP or DOWNArrowbuonto
select Vehicle Selecon from the Main
Menu and press the Y buontoconrm.
2)Next,usingtheUP or DOWN Arrow
buon,selectthevehicle’sMAKE,
MODELandYEAR.
The Acvaon screen will display dierently depending on the test mode
chosen, All Wheels or One Wheel.
6.1 All Wheels Mode
In this mode, a vehicle diagram displays.

WhenoperanginOneWheelMode,
place the tool alongside the valve stem
andpresstheSignalbuon.
Oncethesensorisacvated,thetoolwill
beepanddisplaythesensorID,baery
level,frequencyandrepressureand
temperature. The screen will display for
threesecondsbeforeresengfornext
sensor test. The tool can save up to
vesensordatarecordsatame.If
morethanverecordsarestored,the
latestrecordwilloverwritetherstone.
Pressthebuonatanymeduring
tesngineithermodetodisplaythe
sensor manufacturer, sensor frequency,
OEMpartnumberandRelearnprocedure.
6.3 One Wheel Mode
Use the Down Arrow buontopage
throughtheinstrucons.Sensor
acvaoncanbeabortedatanyme
by pressing the Nbuon.Thetoolwill
then return to the previous menu.
Press the Ybuontoreview
informaonforalltestedsensors.
FirsttheSensorID,TirePressureand
Tire Temperature associated with
each wheel will display. On the second
screen,theBaeryLevel,Modeand
Modulaonwilldisplay.

6.4 Troubleshooting Sensor Activation
Dependingonthesensorand/orvehicle,addionalstepsmayneedto
betakentoacvatethesensoronthevehicle.
• If the magnet icon is displayed, the sensor requires the
useofamagnet(includedinkit)tobeacvated.Placethe
magnetovertherevalvestemandthenplacetheTS401along
sidethestemandpresstheSignalbuon.
•IfthedeaoniconP is displayed, the sensor requires
therebedeated(typicallyby10psi,consultvehicleuser
manual)toacvatethesensor.Deatereandthenplacethe
toolalongsidethevalvestemandpresstheSignalbuon.
•IfacvangabandedsensoronaFordvehicle,holdtheTS401
180degreefromthevalvestemandpresstheSignalbuon.

6.6 Printing Audit Report
To print test results, ensure the
tool is on and using the
supplied USB cable connect it to a
Windowscomputer.TheInter-
net browser will open the
TPMS report and display it on-
screen.Thevehiclemakeand
model and the recorded TPMS
data will display. If you wish,
youcanaddaddionalinformaon
suchastechnicianandownersnameandthevehicleinformaononthe
form.Toprint,gotoFileonthebrowsermenuandselectPrint.

6.5 Latest Scan
Usethisfuncontoreviewthesensor
data of the last vehicle tested andacvate
the sensors. This vehicle will be listed on
the display.
1) Use the UP or DOWNArrowbuonto
select the vehicle from the Main Menu,
place the tool alongside the valve stem of
each wheel and select the Y buon.
2)Amessagewilldisplayaskingifthe
TPMS data should be deleted.
3) Press the N buontoreviewhistorical
sensor data. Use the DOWN Arrowbuon
to advance to next data screen or Press the Nbuontoexit.
4)Todeletethestoredsensordataandentertheacvaonmode,
Press the Ybuon.
