1. Command
The PRECA 1280i controlsthe receiving of various commands through a digital interface.
Commandsare written in ASCII codes, with the following structure: the first letter indicates
the action, followed by the under-bar (_), and the contents of the action.
(E.g.: “m_ ZMT t”movesthe Zoom (ring) toward the Tele side.)
The font is not case sensitive (all letters are converted to capitals internally).
The percent (%)symbol can be substituted for the under-bar (_).
2. Communication Means
Communications with the PRECA 1280ican be made through the RS-232C, Telnet or FTP.
With RS-232C and Telnet, communications are only controllable, but with FTP, image data
can also be transferred through its protocol.
Commands are made available through any of the above means (some commands,
however, may not function depending on the interface).
3. Establishing Communications
For Telnet and FTP, you must establish communications (log on) before issuing
commands. This document does not address the details of Telnet or FTP protocols. Refer
to the appropriate software Help files for information on RFC and Internet connections.
If you already have an Internet connection, you can check for Telnet and FTP accessibility
using your client software provided with Windows 2000 or 95/98/NT.
3-1:Log on with Telnet
From the windows DOS prompt, enter the Telnet IP address (e.g., Telnet
128.21.160.10) to activate the Telnet client.
If the internal server “User ID” of PRECA 1280iis set to “anonymous” under “Network
settings”in the Setup menu, logging on is automatic. But, if a user ID is set,
identification will be requested as follows:
Welcome to (Imager’s) Telnet Server: 103.009.37.0707a
530 login: Input user ID
331 Password: Input password
Log on using the user ID and password that are assigned in “Internal Server”of
“Network settings”in the Setup menu.

When logged on, the unit displays the following message and waits for a command.
230 User logged in

Input “>s_ulon” for “upper lighting on,”and the message “200 Complete!!”
appears.
Input “s_ulof” for “upper lighting off” to log off.
As Telnet does not provide any log off command, switching off will log off
automatically.
3-2:Log in with FTP
From the windows DOS prompt, enter the FTP IP address (e.g.: ftp 128.21.160.10)
and the FTP client is activated.
As FTP always requests for identification (user ID and password), you should log on
using the user ID and password that are already assigned.
However, when the user ID is “anonymous,” any password will do.
When logging on, the following is displayed.
230 User name accepted
ftp>
Then, input “>?”.
The Windows’ FTP command list is displayed. (Note: these are not the same
commandsthat PRECA 1280i supports.)
FTP protocol is for transferring files, the PRECA 1280i enables you to exchange
ASCII commands by issuing the expansion commands.
Input “ftp>literal excm s_ulon”. The lighting on as Telnet.
“excm” is the expansion command in FTP protocol.
The Windows FTP client uses the literal command,but other FTP clients may be
different.
When logging off, input:
ftp>quit

3-3:To control with RS-232C
The client software for RS-232C is not provided for standard Windows. You should
use either free software or the computer language BASIC or C.
The communication format for the RS-232C is any format other than 9600bps, B8,
S1 and None. These are unchangeable.

4. Command Response
4-1:Telnet
In the ASCII command system codes, “CR” (0DH) and “LF” (0AH) are added.

4-2:FTP
EXCM + SP + ASCII command CR LF
SP = Space
The ASCII expansion command system adds one space (ASCII code, “CR”(0DH)
and “LF”(0AH)).
When the PRECA 1280i issues the command:
If the command is established, a number code from 200 and over, and the
corresponding message are displayed.

4-3: RS-232C
RS-232C provides two types of command system. (To support the command system
ofprevious models.)
One adds “CR” (0DH) and “LF” (0AH) to the ASCII code, and the other adds the
control code “SOH” (01H) and “ETB” (17H).
(When you develop new software, the CR/LF command system is recommended.)

When the command is issued to PRECA 1280i:
If the command is established, “ACK” (06H) is displayed.
If the command is executed correctly, “NAK” (15H) is displayed.
In development programs, when the letter code is not received correctly, you can
change the display to ASCII letter string of OK CR/LF, NG CR/LF by issuing the
“s_RSOK” command. Once the “s_RSOK”command is issued, from then on, the
display mode is set to the OK or NG mode.
When you turn on the power to this unit, the ACK or NAK reply mode is always
selected.

5.FTP Protocol
The FTP protocol commands that PRECA 1280i supports are shown as follows.
With respect to their functions, refer to the appropriate literature,such as RFC.
USER, PASS, QUIT, PORT, TYPE, RETR, STOR, CWD, CDUP, DELE,
NOOP, SYSE, PWD, LIST, NLST
EXCM (The ASCII expansion command)
To search for directories, connect this unit using FTP and issue the LIST command.
You will find the two directories listed below.
RAMIBOX<DIR>
CardIBox<DIR>
The RAMIBOX is a virtual directory within PRECA 1280i, and the CardIBox is a directory
on a PC card. (Image data is saved in this directory.)
The CardIBox is displayed using the List command even if a PC card is not inserted.
The CardIBox is the only directory you can access using a PC card.
The RAMIBOX has the four files shown below.

IMGFULL.bmp
IMGMID.jpg
IMGMID.bmp
“IMGFULL.jpg”and “IMGFULL.bmp”are high-resolution image files (1280∗960).
“IMGMID.jpg”and “IMGMID.bmp”are intermediate resolution image files (640∗480).
These are virtually displayed and do not exist actually. The time of them are set at 0 hours
and 0 minutes.
When the “get” (RETR) command is issued from FTP protocol, image files are downloaded.
If the retrieval time setting for the file of 0 hours and 0 minutes is unacceptable, the FTP
client may require you to change the time.
You can read from and write to the PC card (CardiBox).
Image files from RAMIBOX can be read with this unit.
When BMP or JPEG filesare transferred from RAMIBOX, they are displayed on the
screen.
The size of the image to be handled should be 6 Mbytesor less.

Command: m_ZMV t Move the zoom (ring) to Wide side
m_ZMT t Move the zoom (ring) to Tele side
Functions:These commandscontrol the zoom activation.
The zoom motor is activated for the time specified, where t = time (msec).
The specified time has a different movement, depending on the position of the
zoom ring.
The minimum value of t is 34 msecs.
Command: m_FCN t Move the focus (ring) to Near side
m_FCF t Move the focus (ring) to Far side
Functions: These commandscontrol the focus activation of the lens.
The focus motor is activated for the time specified, where t= time (msec).
The specified time has a different movement, depending on the position of the
focus ring.
The minimum value of t is 67 msec.

Command: m_AF Auto-focus
Functions:This command executes the auto-focus function of this unit, for automatic
focusing on the subject.
Note: If you select zoom or auto-focus when the auto-focus is already selected,
the auto-focus will stop, and then either zoom will activate or auto-focus will re-
activate.
Command: s_AEON Set auto-IRIS
s_AEOFF Release auto-IRIS (Set manual IRIS)
Function: Thesecommandsswitch the IRIS control function alternately to auto-mode and
manual mode.
With the manual IRIS mode, the “s_IRO” / “s_IRC” command is effective.
With the auto-IRIS mode, the “s_IR n” command is effective.

Command: s_IR n Auto-IRIS compensation mode
Function: This command sets a compensation value for the IRIS when the IRIS function of
the unit is set to auto-mode.
The compensation value, “n” can be selected from –3 to +7.
(Note that +1 is not the same as +1EV for a camera.)
–3 means the iris is closed completely, and +3 means the iris is opened fully.
Command: m_IRO t Open Iris
m_IRC t Close Iris
Function: Thesecommandscontrol the Manual Iris of the lens.
The iris motor is activated for the time specified, where t = time (msec).
The specified time has a different movement, depending on the position of the
focus ring.
The minimum value of “t” is 134 msecs.
The manual Iris is set using “s_AEOFF” command.
When the iris is set to the auto-IRIS mode, this command is invalid.

Command: s_ULON Overhead lighting on
s_ULOFF Overhead lighting off
s_BLON Base lighting on
s_BLOFF Base lighting off
s_LOFF Overhead and base lighting off
Function: These commands control on/off of the fluorescent lamp.
The overhead fluorescent lamp and base light cannot be lit at the same time (i.e.,
while one is lit, the other is off).
Command: s_XGA Set CRT output to the XGA mode.
s_SXGA Set CRT output to the SXGA mode.
s_CRTOFF Stop CRT output.
Function: These commands set the output mode of the CRT (Main screen).
Setting this command will not change TV output (Sub-screen).
When you stop output with the “s_CRTOFF“ command, the restoration of output
is made using the “s_XGA” or “s_SXGA” commands.

Command: s_NTSC Set TV output to NTSC.
s_PAL Set TV output to PAL.
s_TVOFF Stop TV output.
Function: These commands set the output mode of the TV (Sub-screen).
Setting this command will not change the CRT output (Main screen).
When you stop output with the “s_TVOFF“ command, the restoration of output is
made using the “s_NTSC” or “s_PAL” commands.
Command: s_FZON Freeze the screen.
s_FZOFF Release the freeze function.
Function: These commands control the ON / OFF of the freeze function (still image).
The Freeze function only affects the CRT output (main screen).
The TV output (sub-screen) is not frozen.

Command: s_EZ n Electronic zoom
Function: This command setsthe magnification of the electronic zoom of the CRT output
(Main screen).
You can change the magnification of the electronic zoom function where “n”
represents the setting value.
“n = 100” means magnification. And “n = 1600” is the maximum setting value.
A setting of 100 or less will be displayed as magnification.
This command does not affect the TV output (sub-screen).
Command: s_SLU Electronic scroll Up.
s_SLD Electronic scroll Down.
s_SLL Electronic scroll to Left
s_SLR Electronic scroll to Right
Function: These commands scroll the CRT output (Main screen).
You can scroll the CRT output (Main screen) when the electronic zoom is being
used.
It moves approximately 20 dotsper command.
This command does not affect the TV output (Sub-screen).

Command: m_WB White balance (metering exposure)
Function: This command adjusts the white balance for the current environment. It
measures the metering exposure and compensates the white balance/shift
against the subject.
Command: s_TONE Change of gradation features
Function: This command changes the tone setting where “n”represents the value of tone to
be set.
There are seven settings you can choose from (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Nand B).
The relation between a setting value and the actual status of the tone is as
follows:
1: Natural 2: Linear 1 3: Document 4: Linear 2
5: Picture N: Negative B: Blue Background

Command: s_GAIN Set the gain of an image
Function: This command compensates the gain value of an image, where “n”represents
the value. The setting can be selected from 20 to 260.
A 100 is set at magnification (Gain 1).
As “s_GAIN”cannot be improved when an image where CCC has been saturated
is multiplied by Gain of 100 or less, because digital data after A/D conversion is
multiplied by a multiplier. In such a case, you should control the IRIS.
In addition, as the multiplication is processed before tone conversion, the output
would not change linearly in the case of no-linear conversion.
Command: s_GNR n Set the red gain.
s_GNG n Set the green gain.
s_GNB n Set the blue gain.
Function: These commands compensate the green, red, and blue gain values set in the
unit, where “n”represents a setting value. The setting can be selected from 50 to
150.
A 100 is set at magnification (Gain 1).
The value of this command and the value of “s_GAIN”are respectively
independent. Just like “s_GAIN”digital data after A/D conversion is multiplied.

Command: s_SP n Set the sharpness level.
Function: This command sets the sharpness level of an image, where “n”represents a
setting value from 0 to 5.
The setting 0 means sharpness off, with each setting through 5 representing
increased sharpness, 5 being the sharpest.
Command: t_FB Set file type to BITMAP format
t_FJ Set file type to JPEG format
Function: These commands set a file format to save on a PC card and/or FTP server.
File types are selected from BITMAP (24bit) and JPEG.
To change the compression rate of JPEG, use the “t_JQ”command.

Command: t_JQ n Set data compression rate of JPEG
Function: This command sets the data compression rate for saving JPEG image files.
The setting value is from “n = 50”through “n = 100”.
The setting values of this unit are:
Fine = 100, Normal = 95, Basic = 90, Draft = 85.
Be aware that a low value (e.g., 50 or so) gives you substantially inferior image.
Command: t_6 Set the size of reading image to 320∗240.
t_4 Set the size of reading image to 640∗480.
t_a Set the size of reading image to 1280∗960.
Function: These commands set a size (resolution) to save a file to a PC card or FTP server.
Both JPEG and BITMAP formats are common.

Command: r_DT Transfer image files to an FTP server.
r_DS Save image files to an FTP server.
Function: These commands save image files.
The File format of image data is specified in either the Setup menu or with the
“t_FJ / s_FB”commands etc. (BITMAP format / JPEG format).
The address etc. of the FTP server is set in the Setup menu.
These commands are turned off when the FTP server is not connected or when a
PC card is not inserted.
Command: t_FTP t Transfer image files to FTP server with an interval of t
seconds.
t_FOF Stop transfer.
Function: These commands set an interval timer to activate when transferring image files to
an FTP server that is not connected with a network.
The address etc. of the FTP server is set in the Setup menu.
“t”indicates the interval of time in seconds. The value of the processing time is
added to the specified value (in seconds) and becomes the actual interval time.

Command: d_FIL/directory name Displays image files of the PC card on CRT.

Function: The command specifies a directory and image file name, and displays its image
on the CRT output (Main screen). Possible file formats are BITMAP and JPEG
formats.
The TV screen (Sub-screen) does not have any display function for PC card data.
Command: d_NEW Return CRT output to CCD image.
Function: This command returns a display of the main screen to the CCD image that a
camera section shoots when it displays an image data on CRT output (Main
screen), using “d_FIL/directory name/fname name”command.
