Sliding arrester device on mobile guide with
an energy absorber as a ladder safety device
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
INTENDED USE
The ladder safety device RFZ  serves to secure a
person on a ladder.
Users are assumed to be familiar with the use
of personal fall protection equipment and the
risks associated with working in fall hazard areas.
This personal protection equipment may only
be used in vertical applications.
Maximum number of users:  person
All other uses are deemed improper. The
company BORNACK will not be liable for any
ensuing damages. The user bears the sole risk.

• Energy absorber FALLSTOP AK made of
aluminium based on EN 

USE
• To secure a person on a ladder
GENERAL INFORMATION
If the goods are sold abroad, the dealer must
ensure that the user manual is supplied in the
applicable national language.
The respective translation must be authorised
by BORNACK.

INFORMATION BEFORE USE
Always check every time
before using!
If during the inspection even the slightest of
faults is detected, this protection equipment
may not be used! Faulty protection equip-
ment components may only be tested and
repaired in a workshop authorised by the
company BORNACK.
VISUAL INSPECTION
Check that the equipment is complete:
• Are all components in place?
Check for damage:
• Are all seams undamaged?
• Can you see or feel any damage in the textile
components?
• Are there any signs of damage to the fittings,
D-rings, buckles, karabiners?
FUNCTION TEST
• Is the karabiner fastener and its lock functional?
• Tug the attachment lug of the sliding arrester
device Ropstop  powerfully downwards. The
sliding arrester device must clamp securely to
the safety rope. After being released, the
sliding arrester device must slide freely again
over the rope.

PREPARATION
Set the arrester harness to your personal size
(wearing appropriate clothing).
ARoll out the rope carefully. It may not be
knotted.
BThe rope may not be allowed to twist against
the rope rotation direction as this will cause
kinks and lead to damage.
STRUCTURE
The attachment points must be sufficiently
strong EN :.
CAttach the lower end of the rope to the end of
the ladder.
DThen span the safety rope using the
FALLSTOP AK device to the top.
AFFIXING THE ARRESTER DEVICE
EHold the device in the palm of your hand. The
direction arrow should point UPWARDS.
Lift the securing lug and push the locking bolt
downwards.
Locking the locking bolt into the „park position“.
FPlace the guide rope into the device and close
the device. Check the working direction:
Arrow points UPWARDS!

Push the locking bolt out of the „park position“:
the bayonet fastener snaps closed automati-
cally!

CONTROL
Is the arrester device ROPSTOP  positioned
correctly?
The device must hold its position on the rope
and may not slide downwards. If jerked down-
wards, the device must block.
The device can be pushed freely up the rope.
Hook the karabiners from the connecting
equipment into the attachment D-ring of the
attachment point and secure.
Push the ROPSTOP  up the vertical guide rope
by hand as high as it will go. It should be just in
reach to allow it to be adjusted. The system is
now ready for use and work may commence.
The guide rope must be taut (not slack).
DISMANTLING
The ladder safety device RFZ  is dismantled in
reverse order.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
There is a risk to life if these safety
instructions are not observed!
• The personal protection equipment may no
longer be used even in the case of very minor
faults.
• Damaged, fall-stressed, dubious personal
protection equipment or safety devices must
be immediately withdrawn and not used. The
equipment may only be inspected by an
expert or a workshop authorised in writing by
BORNACK. This must be documented in the
checklist.
• Independent modifications or repairs are
prohibited.
• The rope protection is part of the personal
protection equipment to prevent falling and
should be assigned to a specific person.
• The personal protection equipment may only
be used by qualified staff that are familiar
with the material. They must be proficient in
handling the personal protection equipment
and must have been briefed about the possible
risks associated with its use.
• In accordance with the accident prevention
guidelines (UVV), the users of fall protection
equipment (Category ) must attend a theore-
tical training course and a practical training
course. Make use of the training competence
of the BORNACK training centres:

• Accessories from other manufacturers may
only be used if approved by BORNACK and
may not impair the function and safety of the
protection equipment.
• Clothing and shoes must be suitable for the
task at hand and the weather conditions.
• Only use the equipment if you are fully fit.
• Health impairments can jeopardise the safety
of the user when working at heights or depths.
• If this personal protection equipment is used
as a fall-arrest system (free fall is possible), an
arrester harness in compliance with EN 
must be used.
• Before using, ensure that there is enough
space below the user to prevent impact onto
a protruding obstacle or the ground.
• Protect personal protection equipment during
storing, use and transportation against the
eects of heat (e.g. welding flames or sparks,
burning cigarettes) and chemicals (e.g. acids,
alkalis, oils) and mechanical eects (e.g. sharp
edges).
• Before starting work, the responsible person
must draw up a plan of rescue measures that
defines how to rescue casualties quickly and
safely and ensures first aid measures. Casualties
must be rescued within  to  minutes.

• The local safety guidelines (e.g. in Germany
the guidelines issued by the professional
associations BGR  and BGR ) and the
accident prevention guidelines for the specific
industry (UVV) must be observed.
• Application temperature: - °C to + °C.
• Observe compatibility with other equipment
parts of the personal protection equipment.

OTHER
REGULAR INSPECTIONS
This personal protection equipment must be
inspected at least once a year by an expert.
The result must be documented in the checklist
at the end of this user manual.
MAINTENANCE
Oil mobile parts on karabiners and other
devices to ensure they run smoothly. Do not use
grease. Bearings are permanently lubricated
balls. If necessary, oil joints with (resin-free)
sewing machine oil. Protective equipment that
is well looked after will last longer!
CLEANING
Dry damp personal protection equipment in
the air, not on artificial heat sources. Dry metal
components with cloths.
Clean soiled textile components (e.g. arrester
harnesses and ropes) with lukewarm water and
a little detergent for delicates. Then rinse
thoroughly and allow to dry in the air. No other
cleaning agents may be used!

If the personal protection equipment comes
into contact with saltwater, keep it wet until it
can be rinsed with distilled water. Blow with
copressed air if necessary.
LIFE SPAN
Recommendations for the use of personal
protection equipment in industrial environments:
Maximum storage period before using for the
first time up to  years.
Maximum usage period after being used for
the first time up to  years.
In the case of safety systems that work on the
basis of rope friction (rappelling devices, rope
shorteners, energy absorbers, etc.), functional
problems may occur as a result of rope changes.
In this case, the devices may need to be replaced
more frequently.
For reasons of safety, after intensive use and/or
extreme conditions, e.g. sharp edges and
chemical influences, the usage period may be
reduced. The company owner must ensure this
in the risk analysis of the workplace.
The company owner must ensure compliance
with the maximum usage period by documenting
first-time use in the checklist or the rope log.
The checklist at the end of this user manual
must be presented during the regular expert
inspections and completed by the expert.

OTHER
.STORAGE
Dry damp personal protection equipment before
storing.
Store away from light in a dry place.
Do not store personal protection equipment
close to radiators.
Permanent temperatures of over + °C have a
negative impact on the strength of the textile
material and will reduce the life-span.
Do not allow personal protection equipment to
come into contact with aggressive substances
(e.g. oils, grease, acids, chemicals).
Store the personal protection equipment in the
device case or device bag.
