4 Equipment description
4.1 General
The charger LW 30 E has been developed as a
high-performance workshop charger with electronic
characteristic control.
Charging mode
It is possible to vary the characteristic by changing
the option board (11). The charger has an IU
characteristic control as the basic option. The
current can be varied steplessly from approximately
1 to 30 A.
The charging voltage can be switched over between
14.4 V (standard batteries) and 13.8 V
(maintenance-free batteries)
Back-up mode
In this operating mode, the vehicle electrical system
can be backed up in the event of a battery change.
The output current in this operating mode is
restricted to 1.5 to 3 A.
4.2 Mechanical construction
Electrical construction of the power section
The power section consists, from the mains to the
battery charging terminals, of an inlet connector for
non-heating appliances with mains fuse F1 (5), RFI
suppression circuit (10), mains switch (mode
selector switch) S1a (12), Triac in the primary circuit
of the main transformer T1 (4), bridge rectifier (3),
capacitor C1 (9) for voltage smoothing, regulating
transistor V1 (7) in the POSITIVE lead, ammeter A
(1), relay K1 and the battery connection lead. The
shunt R100 (11) is accommodated in the NEGATIVE
lead.
Mechanical construction of the charging section
The charger consists of the base plate (6), front
panel and cover. The base plate is curved parallel to
the front panel so that one part is available as a
module subrack for mode selector switch (12),
ammeter (1), regulator board and supply
transformer (8). The front panel serves to
accommodate the indicator and operating controls.
The main transformer (4), rectifier (3), regulating
transistor (7) and capacitor (9) are screwed onto the
bottom section of the base plate. The option board
(2) is screwed onto the front panel in the form of a
plug-in module.
