1.0 Product Overview
1.1 Indications for Use
This application area extends to endodontic procedures using a root canal
instrument which is intended by the manufacturer for use in the mechanical
and rotary preparation of root canals.

2.0 Safety Precautions
WARNING!
• The system may be subject to malfunction when used in the presence of
electromagnetic interference. Do not locate the system in the vicinity of
other devices that possibly emit electromagnetic interference.
• CanalProTM CL2 is designed for use by dental professionals only.
• Special care must be taken to maintain patient safety while in use.
• Read this user’s guide thoroughly and understand functions of individual
components completely before use to help avoid undesired operation.
• Ensure that the CanalProTM CL2 is in good working condition prior to use
to avoid undesirable operation from occurring.
• Before use perform a test run to ensure the system is working properly to
avoid undesirable operation from occurring.
• If any abnormal condition is detected including excessive vibration, noise
and heat while in use quit using the product immediately and contact
customer service. Use under abnormal conditions may result in injury.
• EnsurethehandpieceisOFFbeforeinstallingorremovingaletoavoid
injury from occurring.
• Do not lubricate the handpiece. This may result in improper operation.
• Both the handpiece and charging base should not be sterilized. Equipment
may be damaged by the sterilization process.
• Do not use organic solvents to clean handpiece or charging base. Organic
solvents may cause damage to the equipment.

4.0 Operation
4.1 Switches
4.1.1 Power Switch
4.1.1.1 To turn it ON, press and hold the switch for longer than 1 second
when the power is OFF.
4.1.1.2 To turn it OFF, press and hold the switch for longer than 1 second
while the power is ON.
4.1.2 Motor On/Off Switch
4.1.2.1 Simply pressing this switch will turn the motor on or off depending
on its current state (ON or OFF).
4.1.3 Program Switch
4.1.3.1 Toggles through mode 1, 2, 3 and 4 for each time the switch
is pressed. The preset values (speed, torque and gear ratio) are
displayed as each mode is selected.
4.1.4 Select Switch
4.1.4.1 Pressing this switch will change the menu item selected. The
operation of this switch is dependent on whether the handpiece is
on or off.
4.1.4.1.1 If the handpiece is off this switch will toggle between
Speed, Torque, Gear Ratio, Run Mode and Speed.
4.1.4.1.2 If the handpiece is on this switch will toggle between
Speed and Torque.
Menu Item Descriptions
Speed (SP) — Speed can be adjusted by pressing the increment
or decrement switch.
Torque (TRQ) — The torque of the handpiece is adjustable.
Gear Ratio (GR) — Sets the gear ratio of the contra angle which is
connected to the unit.
Run Mode (PRG) — Selects the mode of the handpiece.

4.1.4.1.3 When Auto Stop Reverse Forward (ASRF) is
selected: and will blink.
4.1.4.1.4 When Auto Stop Reverse Stop (ASRS) is selected:
blinks
4.1.4.1.5 When Auto Stop is selected: blinks
4.1.4.1.6 The select switch will be initialized (speed adjustment
mode) if the program switch is pressed while selecting
any item using the select switch.
4.1.5 Increment/Decrement Switches
4.1.5.1 The switches are used to increase (Increment Switch) or decrease
(Decrement Switch) the value of the item selected using the
select switch.
4.2 Charging the Battery
Prior to operation the battery must be fully charged according the instructions
below:
4.2.1 Ensure that the site main power is working and that the CanalProTM CL2 is
corded with the proper type of power cord for power available at the site.
4.2.2 Plug the power cord into both the charging base and the wall outlet.
4.2.3 Turn the power switch on the charging base to on and ensure that the
charging LED lights green.
4.2.4 Placethehandpieceintothechargingbasebeforetherstuseandfully
charge the handpiece. The charging base LED will be yellow when the
handpiece is not in place. When the handpiece is place in the charging base
the LED will light green indicating that the unit is charging. An audible
buzzer will sound when the handpiece is placed in the charging base.
WARNING!
If there is not audible buzzer or LED light on after
the handpiece is placed in the charging base imme-
diately stop using the CanalProTM CL2 and contact
Customer Service.

Note the following:
• If the charging LED is not lit after the power is turned on, there may
be a problem with the base circuit. Contact Customer Service for
instructions.
• If the charging base terminals are dirty and contaminated, the handpiece
may not properly charged. Ensure all connections are clean prior to
using the charging base.
• Use only the charging base supplied with the CanalProTM CL2.
• While the battery is charging the rear of the handpiece may become
warm which will not generally cause a problem.
• Once the handpiece is placed on the charging base it is recommended
that it stays in place until the battery indicates fully charged.
• A completely drained battery may not be able to be charged and may
have to be replaced.
• Avoid placing the charging base in an area that may be susceptible to
additional heat (in the sunlight or next to a heater, etc.).
• The battery may not charge if the temperature is excessively high or
low, it is already fully charged or if the battery is damaged.
4.3 The CanalProTM CL2 Modes
• Auto Stop Reverse Forward – In this mode if the handpiece is
overloaded it will begin to run in reverse until the overload is relieved.

It will then begin to run in forward mode.
• Auto Stop Reverse Stop – In this mode if the handpiece is overloaded, it
will begin to run in reverse. Once the overload is relieved the handpiece shuts
off.
• No Indication – Auto Stop – In this mode when the handpiece is overloaded
it turns off.
WARNING!
If the battery charge is too low, the actual load may not reach the select-
ed torque value, in which case the Auto Reverse function will not work.
If the battery is overheated due to use an error message will be dis-
played. It is necessary to allow the handpiece to cool at this point.
4.4 Program Memory Function
4.4.1 The unit has four memory functions which will store the user’s own
speed, torque, gear ratio and operational mode. These modes can be toggled
through by pressing the Program button.
4.5 Attaching and Removing the Contra Angle
4.5.1 The Contra Angle simply snaps on or off to the top of the handpiece. A 16:1
gear ratio contra angle is supplied with the CanalProTM CL2 and additional
contra angles can be ordered. The CanalProTM CL2 will also operate with
Contra Angles of other gear ratios. Contact your local sales operation for
more details.
WARNING!
DO NOT use any contra angle attachment from other
manufacturers with this unit. Failure to comply may
result in equipment damage.
Ensure the handpiece power is off before removing or
replacing the Contra Angle. Ensure the Contra Angle
is securely installed prior to use. Failure to comply
may result in equipment damage.

4.6 Insert or Remove NiTi File
4.6.1 While pressing and holding the the button on the back of the the contra
angle,lightlyrotateandinsertthele.
4.6.2 Ensuretheleiscorrectlyinstalledbylightlypullingontheletoensureit
does not come loose.
4.6.3 Aleisremovedbypressingthebuttonandpullingthelewhilethebutton
is pressed.
CAUTION!
• EnsurethepowerisOFFbeforeinserting/removingale.
• Checkthattheleisproperlyinstalledbylightlypulling
onthele.
• Cleanthelepriortoinsertingtoavoidimproper
insertion.
• DonotexceedtherecommendedRPMfortheleinuse.
• Failure to comply with these Cautions may result in
equipment damage or injury to personnel.
4.7 Buzzer Setting
4.7.1 The buzzer can be set for On/Off when the preset torque reading has
been reached.
4.7.1.1 The buzzer select menu is displayed by pressing the
power switch while pressing and holding the select switch
after turning the power Off. When the buzzer indicator is
displayed, a warning sound is made unless the buzzer is set
to Off.
4.7.1.2 The warning sound can be alternately selected (on/off) by
pressing the select switch while pressing and holding the
power switch.
4.7.1.3 The warning on/off selection can be stored by releasing the
power switch and can be used for general conditions.

5.0 Error Messages
Error codes are displayed on the LCD and are described below.
Note
Errors are cleared by pressing the handpiece On/Off switch. The unit
will then return to standby mode.

6.0 Cleaning, Maintenance and Repair
6.1 Maintenance and Repair of Contra Angle
The Contra Angle is the only CanalProTM CL2 attachment that can be lubricated.
Lubrication is required prior to each use as well as before sterilization.
6.1.1 Lubricate once a day prior to sterilization. Insert the spray nozzle into the
end of the contra angle that attaches to the handpiece. Spray the lubricant
5 times.

6.1.2 To remove dirt and contamination from the contra angle, wipe with a soft
cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol.
6.1.3 When the contra angle is detached to perform lubrication or sterilization
and charge the handpiece place the cap on the handpiece to prevent it from
becoming contaminated. Use a standard motor handpiece lubricant.
CAUTION!
• Never lubricate the handpiece. Failure to comply may result in
equipment damage.
• Completely wipe off oil from the contra angle before connecting
it to the handpiece. Also do not attach the contra angle to the
handpiece until the oil has dried. Failure to comply may result in
equipment damage.
• It is recommended to hold the spray can vertically.
• Do not use soluble liquids such as benzene or thinner when
cleaning the handpiece. Failure to comply may result in equipment
damage.
• Never autoclave the handpiece. Failure to comply may result in
equipment damage.
6.2 Cleaning Procedure
6.2.1 Clean the contra angle using a soft brush and then wipe out the dirt on its
surface with a soft cloth (do not use a wire brush).
6.2.2 Lubricate the contra angle as described in section 6.1.
6.2.3 Place the contra angle into the autoclave.
6.2.4 Set the autoclave temperature to approximately 121° C (250° F) for
approximately 20 minutes and then 132° C (270° F) for approximately 15
minutes.
6.2.5 When complete allow the contra angle to dry and keep it in a clean area.

6.3 Changing the Battery
The handpiece battery is rechargeable over 500 times depending on the user’s
operational methods and the handpiece conditions. If the handpiece operational
time or RPM has been considerably reduced, the battery should be considered bad
and replaced. Contact your dealer for a battery replacement. Observe the following
precaution when replacing the battery.
• Only open the battery cover.
• Ensure that only the designated battery (AAA nickel metal hydrogen rechargeable
battery,1.2V,standard)isused.Specicationsvarydependingonthe
manufacturer. Using the incorrect batteries may result in equipment damage.
• Do not use non-rechargeable batteries (alkaline or manganese). This may result
in an explosion and gas emission during charging.
• If the liquid leaks or direct contact with the eyes occurs immediately rinse
thoroughly with water and seek medical attention.
• Replace only with the correctly designated batteries and replace both batteries
atonce.Shortenedbatterylemayresultifbothbatteriesarenotreplacedatthe
same time.
• Do not replace batteries with wet hands to avoid contamination to the battery
terminals.
• Dispose of used batteries in accordance with the local ordinances.
6.3.1 Turn the power off.
6.3.2 Remove the rubber cover and cover screw.
6.3.3 Remove the battery cover.

6.3.4 Remove the old batteries and replace with the new batteries using care to
observe the correct polarity.
6.3.5 Re-install the cover (using hardware previously removed). Avoid over
tightening the screw. Place the unit on the charger until it indicates that
the battery is fully charged.
7.0 Troubleshooting
