Connector Closure
1 About this manual
This installation instruction document describes the installation of the connector closure. The document starts with providing
an overview of the tools required to perform the installation. Also warnings and cautions are indicated, which should be
observed before starting the product installation.
Following installation steps are covered in this document: closure preparation, organizer preparation, feeder cable
preparation and installation, drop cable preparation and installation, branch cable preparation and installation, routing
towards and on the dierent trays, splicing, patching; closing the closure and mounting the closure.

5 Warnings and Cautions
5.1 Follow the installation instruction steps to ensure the performance of the closure.
It is necessary to take precautions and keep the working space clean to protect the
closure sealing materials and splices.
5.2 Exposure to laser radiation can seriously damage the retina of the eye. Do not
look into the ends of any optical ber. Do not assume the laser power is turned o or
that the ber is disconnected at the other end. Looking into the ends of any optical ber
is entirely at your own risk. A protective cap or hood MUST be immediately placed over
any radiating adapter or optical ber connector to avoid the potential of dangerous
amounts of radiation exposure. This practice also prevents dirt particles from entering
the connector and adapter.
5.3 Fiber optic cables may be damaged if bent or curved to a radius that is less than
the recommended minimum bend radius. Always observe the recommended bend
radius limit when installing ber optic cables, subunits and patch cords.

7 Closure preparation
7.1 Open the packaging box
7.1.1 Open the packaging box and verify the kit contents. Kits and accessories are stored on the top layer. The closure
with organizer is stored under the accessory shelf.
7.2 Open the closure
7.2.1 To open the closure, open the latches. Remove the top cover.
7.2.2 Verify the long seal remains correctly seated within the closure cavity.

7.3 Install the hinges in another position
The hinges are pre-installed on the left side. However it is possible to install them in another position. First the hinges should
be removed.
7.3.1 Remove the hinges
7.3.1.1 Remove the top cover from the base. Push on the snap features under the hinge on the base. Slide the top cover
with the hinges over the snap features.
7.3.1.2 Use a screw driver to disassemble the hinges from the top cover.
7.3.1.3 Lift the hinges up and then move the hinge forward to lift it out of its cavity.
7.3.2 Re-install the hinges
For a butt conguration, the hinges can be installed left, right or at the top of the top cover. For an in-line conguration, the
hinges can be installed left or right.
7.3.2.1 Slide the hinge in the openings of the top cover.
7.3.2.2 Then slide the hinge down in its lock position.
7.3.2.3 Assemble the top cover and base by sliding the top cover hinges into the cavities within the base.
The hinges are properly seated in the base if a click sound is noticed.
7.3.2.4 Rotate the top cover towards the base and close the top cover.

7.3 Install the hinges in another position

7.4 Access the inside of the closure
7.4.1 Open the closure, lift the top cover up.
7.4.2 Hinge the top cover open to the side of the installed hinge.
7.4.3 Secure the top cover in open position: the top cover with hinges will move downwards and will lock in the base.
Note: If the hinges are installed in the top position, the top cover cannot be secured in open position.
To access the inside of the closure, the top cover should be detached.

9.2 Feeder cable rigid strength member strain relief
For a looped feeder cable, install the strength member strain relief on both sheath opening ends:
9.2.1 If the diameter is smaller than 9 mm (0.35”) or if the jacket is a thin jacket, add 5 wraps of self amalgamating silicon
tape. Stretch the tape up to 300% while wrapping the tape around the cable. Make sure the tape is wrapped where the hose
clamp will be positioned.
9.2.2 Verify the length of the strength member(s) as indicated or measure 4 cm+/-0.5 cm (1.6”+/- 0.2”) and cut to length.
Place the cable on the bracket with the jacket end aligned with the bracket edge as shown in gure 2 and the strength
members aligned with the top of the bracket.
9.2.3 Route the subunits under the top piece of the bracket and place the metal plate and the nut over the stud and
secure the nut with an appropriate tool (M5-socket wrench size 8).

9.2.4 Install the hose clamp around the cable bracket assembly and secure with an appropriate tool (socket wrench
size 6). Make sure the head of the hose clamp is positioned against the bracket.
9.2.5 Finalize with wrapping 2 layers PVC tape around the hose clamp.
9.3 Feedercablearamidyarnstrainrelief
9.3.1 If the diameter is smaller than 9 mm (0.35”) or if the jacket is a thin jacket, add 5 wraps of self amalgamating silicon
tape. Stretch the tape up to 300% while wrapping the tape around the cable. Make sure the tape is wrapped where the hose
clamp will be positioned.
9.3.2 Cut the aramid yarn to a length of 12 cm +/- 1 cm (4.7”+/-0.4”).
9.3.3 Place the cable on the bracket with the jacket end aligned with the bracket edge. Route the subunits under the top
piece of the bracket. Wrap the aramid yarn around the stud. Place the metal plate and the nut over the stud and secure the
nut with an appropriate tool (M5-socket wrench size 8).
9.3.4 Install the hose clamp around the cable bracket assembly and secure with an appropriate tool (socket wrench
size 6). Make sure the head of the hose clamp is positioned against the bracket.
9.3.5 Finalize with wrapping 2 layers PVC tape around the hose clamp.

size 6). Make sure the head of the hose clamp is positioned against the bracket.
9.2.5 Finalize with wrapping 2 layers PVC tape around the hose clamp.

9.3.1 If the diameter is smaller than 9 mm (0.35”) or if the jacket is a thin jacket, add 5 wraps of self amalgamating silicon
tape. Stretch the tape up to 300% while wrapping the tape around the cable. Make sure the tape is wrapped where the hose
clamp will be positioned.

9.3.3 Place the cable on the bracket with the jacket end aligned with the bracket edge. Route the subunits under the top

nut with an appropriate tool (M5-socket wrench size 8).
9.3.4 Install the hose clamp around the cable bracket assembly and secure with an appropriate tool (socket wrench
size 6). Make sure the head of the hose clamp is positioned against the bracket.
9.3.5 Finalize with wrapping 2 layers PVC tape around the hose clamp.

10 Feeder cable installation
10.1 Port reducers
Port reducers are installed above and below the Octopus gel seal. Depending the cable diameter, the port reducer should
remain or removed.
If the cable diameter is larger than 8 mm (0.32”): remove both port reducers
10.1.1 Lift up the two port reducers at the both sides of the Octopus gel seal (no tools needed).
10.1.2 Remove both parts.

10.2 Install feeder cable
10.2.1 Install the feeder cable (with the strain relief bracket installed) into the organizer. A loop feeder cable will typically
be installed one end left (F2 - feeder out) and one end right (F1 - feeder in).
10.2.2 The bracket snaps in the holder of the organizer.
10.3 Remove feeder cable
10.3.1 To remove the feeder cable strain relief bracket, position a at screw driver between the metal bracket and the snap
hook and push the snap hook to the side.

10.2 Install feeder cable
10.2.1 Install the feeder cable (with the strain relief bracket installed) into the organizer. A loop feeder cable will typically
be installed one end left (F2 - feeder out) and one end right (F1 - feeder in).
10.2.2 The bracket snaps in the holder of the organizer.
10.3 Remove feeder cable
10.3.1 To remove the feeder cable strain relief bracket, position a at screw driver between the metal bracket and the snap
hook and push the snap hook to the side.
10.3.2 Move the bracket forward while pushing the snap hook to the side.

10.4.1 If present, secure the feeder cables to the external cable xation bracket using hose clamps (use socket wrench
size 6).
Note: If the diameter is smaller than 9 mm (0.35”) or if the jacket is a thin jacket, add 5 wraps of self amalgamating silicon
tape. Stretch the tape up to 300% while wrapping the tape around the cable. Make sure the tape is wrapped where the hose
clamp will be positioned.
Note: secure the cable to the L-shape on the left side (same side as T-shape of the internal strain relief bracket).
11 Install grounding feeder cable
11.1 Prepare cable
11.1.1 For cable with shielding, remove a section of the outer sheath 180° around the cable by 2.5 cm (1”) in length
measured from the end of the outer sheath in order to expose the cable shielding.
11.1.2 Prepare the strength member as explained in section 9.2 or 9.3. Make sure the sheath opening is positioned
against the T-shape of the bracket
11.1.3 Secure the cable with a hose clamp. Note: don’t use the self amalgamating tape.

11.3 Install grounding kit
11.3.1 Install the grounding wire to the ground bar as shown in gure 1, using a socket wrench size 8.
11.3.2 Install the feeder cable (with the strain relief bracket installed) into the organizer as shown in section 10.2.
11.3.3 Install the grounding assembly on the studs of the installed strain relief bracket using a socket wrench size 8.
12 Routefeederberstosplicetray
12.1 Route subunits to storage
12.1.1 Select the subunits that will be used for splicing to the drops or branch cable. Keep them separate. Route the
subunits that will not be used to the loop storage basket. Make sure all subunits are positioned properly under the lips.
Table below gives an overview of the capacity of the loop storage basket:

12.2 Directlytosplicetrayrear
12.2.1 Cut the subunits at the jacket end installed on side F2 (endcut) OR cut the subunit in the middle (midcut).
The non-used end can be re-stored in the loop storage.
12.2.2 Bring the cut subunit to the splice tray (rear) and mark the stripping point. Strip the subunit to this mark and clean
all bers per standard practice.

12.3.1.1 Bring the selected subunit to the rear of the loop storage, the uncut ber storage. Note: It is important that the
selected subunit is routed rst and that the bundle of subunits is installed back on top of this routed subunit.
12.3.1.2 Put the selected subunit on top of the uncut ber storage basket and indicate the marks (stripping points) between
which the subunit should be shaved. Shave and clean the subunit per standard practice. Cut the ber to be spliced at the
jacket end of the subunit, side F2.

12.2.1 Cut the subunits at the jacket end installed on side F2 (endcut) OR cut the subunit in the middle (midcut).

12.3.2 Cut subunit
12.3.2.1 Bring the selected subunit to the rear of the loop storage, the uncut ber storage.
Note: It is important that the selected subunit is routed rst and that the bundle of subunits is installed back on top of this
routed subunit.
12.3.2.2 Put the selected subunit on top of the uncut ber storage basket and mark the stripping point. Strip the subunit to
this mark and clean all bers per standard practice.
12.3.3 Routingonuncutberstoragetosplicetray
Note: images below shows a shaved subunit, same practice for cut subunit.
12.3.3.1 Push the cut ber through the transportation tube, respecting the correct bend radius.
Note: Make sure bersaregreasefreebefore pushing the bers through the transportation tube.
12.3.3.2 Store over length and the uncut bers in the storage area.
Note: Make sure all bers are properly positioned under the lips and avoid bugling of the ber.
Note: The ber guidance pen (situated on top of the loop storage basket) can be used to position all the bers under the lips.
12.3.3.3 The ber routed through the transportation tube is ready to be spliced. Proceed with step 12.4. to change side or
with section 15 Splicing.

12.3.2 Cut subunit
12.3.2.1 Bring the selected subunit to the rear of the loop storage, the uncut ber storage.
Note: It is important that the selected subunit is routed rst and that the bundle of subunits is installed back on top of this
routed subunit.
12.3.2.2 Put the selected subunit on top of the uncut ber storage basket and mark the stripping point. Strip the subunit to
this mark and clean all bers per standard practice.
12.3.3 Routingonuncutberstoragetosplicetray
Note: images below shows a shaved subunit, same practice for cut subunit.
12.3.3.1 Push the cut ber through the transportation tube, respecting the correct bend radius.
Note: Make sure bersaregreasefreebefore pushing the bers through the transportation tube.
12.3.3.2 Store over length and the uncut bers in the storage area.
Note: Make sure all bers are properly positioned under the lips and avoid bugling of the ber.
Note: The ber guidance pen (situated on top of the loop storage basket) can be used to position all the bers under the lips.
12.3.3.3 The ber routed through the transportation tube is ready to be spliced. Proceed with step 12.4. to change side or
with section 15 Splicing.

12.4 Fromsplicetrayreartofront and vice versa
12.4.1 The bers are now available on the splice tray at the rear of the closure. The bers can be routed to the front
through the two slots on the sides of the splice trays. The drop bers can also be routed from the front to the rear on the
same way. Fibers can be temporarily stored on the tray.
13 Install drop cable
13.1 Using T-shapes integrated in organizer
13.1.1 Prepare drop cable

Strip the dual jacket to a length of 1 cm

3Aramid yarn Cut the aramid yarn to length of 12 cm
+/- 1 cm. (4.7 +/ 0.4 inches)
4Subunits Clean the subunits, remove all grease.
5 Rigid strength
member
Remove the rigid strength member if present.
If the diameter is smaller than 5 mm (0.2”) add 3 wraps of self amalgamating silicon tape. Stretch the tape up to 300% while
wrapping the tape around the cable. Make sure the tape is wrapped where the cable ties will be positioned.

13.1.2 Install drop cable
13.1.2.1 Install the cable ties around the T-shape on the front of the organizer. Position the cable with the taped area on
top of the T-shape and secure the cable ties. Note: make sure to install the cable tie with the correct orientation (see gure
above).
13.2 Using jacket strain relief
Note: cable diameter range: 4,5 mm - 6,3 mm (0.18”- 0.25”)
Note: atcable is terminated following the same installation method as described below. Note that the metal clip has a
sightly dierent shape. Cable dimensions at cable: 4,5x8 mm (0.32” x 0.18”)

13.2.3 Install strain relief on drop cable
13.2.3.1 Put the metal clip on the cable. Align the sheath opening with the concave slot in the metal clip. Wrap the aramid
yarn around the clip as shown. The aramid yarn should be positioned under the tags of the metal clip.
13.2.3.2 Mount the carrier on the clip-cable assembly. The two tabs of the carrier should be positioned in the two slots of
the metal clip, then turn the carrier towards the cable.
13.2.3.3 Push until the two snap hooks snap in the slots of the metal clip. Pull on the aramid yarn to verify it is properly put
under tension. Cut o the excess aramid yarn.
13.2.3.4 The metal clip can also be installed without using aramid yarn. Installation of the cable follows the same procedure
as steps 13.2.3.1 - 13.2.3.3.
13.2.4 Install drop cable
13.2.4.1 Slide the carrier with the cable secured into the slots of the organizer.

300% while wrapping the tape around the cable. Make sure the tape is wrapped where the cable ties will be positioned.
