DataPort 2U & 4U DataCase
Package Contents
1 - DataPort 2U or 4U DataCase
4 or 8 - DX115 Frame & Carrier Assemblies
4 or 8 - Key Sets
4 or 8 - Screw Kits
1 - Power Cable
The DataPort 2U DataCase supports up to 4 hard drives and the
DataPort 4U DataCase supports up to 8 hard drives. The DataPort 2U
& 4U DataCases use the SFF-8470 (InfiniBand) connector(s) or eSATA
connector(s) with port multipliers. The DataPort 2U DataCase with SFF-
8470 (InfiniBand) connector requires a multi-lane cable. The DataPort
2U Enclosure with eSATA connector requires an eSATA cable. The
DataPort 4U DataCase with SFF-8470 (Infiniband) connectors require 2
multi-lane cables to support 8 SAS/SATA hard drives. The DataPort 4U
DataCase with eSATA connectors requires 2 eSATA cables to support 8
SATA hard drives.
NOTE: The DataPort 2U and 4U DataCases do not include the
required external enclosure to host cable.
The DataPort DataCase with SFF-8470 connector(s) support two differ-
ent multi-lane cables, the SFF-8470 (InfiniBand) to SFF-8470 (InfiniBand)
cable (CRU Part Number 7366-700-03); or the SFF-8470 (InfiniBand) to
SFF-8088 (Mini-SAS) cable (CRU part number 7366-701-01). Consult
your host bus adapter manual to determine which interface (connector)
it supports.
For host support CRU offers a cable assembly kit. The 4x SATA to
SFF-8470 (InfiniBand) PCI host adapter with (4) SATA data cables and
SFF-8470 (InfiniBand) to SFF-8470 (InfiniBand) external cable (CRU part
number 7100-800-10) will provide the end to end cabling required to set
up the DataPort DataCases with SFF-8470 connectors.
These cables are available through CRU’s authorized resellers or directly
from CRU at www.cru-dataportstore.com.
Installing Hard Drive
1. Remove the drive cover from the carrier.
2. Carefully insert the drive into the carrier. Slide the drive towards the
Drive Carrier Board, so that the I/O connector on the drive mates with
the connector on the Drive Carrier Board. Hold the drive in place and
turn the drive/carrier assembly over.
3. Fasten the drive into place with four (4) provided screws. Some
drives may require minor adjustment before securing into carrier with
screws.
4. Install the drive cover and secure with two (2) provided screws.
Enclosure Setup Instructions
WARNING: The DataPort DataCase requires slide rails or other
support system to be rack mounted. The front mounting brackets
will not allow the DataPort DataCase to be rack mounted without
additional support.
1. Power off the host computer and disconnect the power cord.
2. Install hard drives in the removable carriers. See Installing a Hard
Drive in the Carrier section for more details.
3. Insert the removable carriers into the enclosure and engage the lock
on the receiving frames.
4. Connect the host computer to the DataPort DataCase with the exter-
nal cables (not provided).
5. Power on the DataPort DataCase with the power button located on
the rear of the enclosure. For best results power on the enclosure
prior to powering on the host system.
The CRU-DataPort 4U 8bay & 2U 4bay DataCase DX115 Digital Cinema
JBOD Storage Racks are proprietary, high quality and highly reliable
storage solutions designed specifically for our Digital Cinema custom-
ers. The 4U & 2U allows for the installation of up to (8) DX115 DC SAS/
SATA Carriers and the choice of either (singe or dual) eSATA Port Multi-
pliers or (single or dual) 8470 Multilane external host connections.

NOTE: The DataPort 2U or 4U DataCase with Removable Drive

Production Operation
Rack Mounting Instructions
• Elevated Operating Ambient : If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack
assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment
may be greater than room ambient. Therefore, consideration should
be given to installing the equipment in an environment compatible
with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) of 40˚C.
• Reduced Air Flow : Installation of the equipment in a rack should be
such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the
equipment is not compromised.
• Mechanical Loading : Mounting of the equipment in the rack should
be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven
mechanical loading.
• Circuit Overloading : Consideration should be given to the connection
of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading
the circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring.
Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be
used when addressing this concern.
• Reliable Earthing: Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment
should be maintained. Particular attention should be given to supply
connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (e.g.
use of power strips).
Trouble Shooting
Verify the lock is locked and call CRU to replace the fan when it starts
beeping.
Limited Product Warranty
CRU-DataPort (CRU) warrants the DataPort 2U or 4U DataCase to be free
of significant defects in material and workmanship for a period of one
year from the original date of purchase. CRU’s warranty is nontransfer-
able and is limited to the original purchaser.
