The 11g WIRELESSLANACCESS POINT provides the most expandeduserbandwidth
available inanAP. Wireless clients can connect to this APusing any ofits channels to
transferdataat speedsneverachievable beforeinawireless device. The 11g
WIRELESS LANACCESSPOINT operatesseamlessly andsimultaneouslyin the
2.4GHzfrequency spectrums supportingthe802.11band thenewer, faster 802.11g
wireless standards. For offices, schools or public hotspots thatalreadyuse802.11b
devices, the11gWIRELESS LANACCESSPOINTis agreat wayto expand anexisting
network andenable evenmoreusers to communicatewith one another, access dataand
the Internet. Now, you canhave anAPthat will compliment yourexistingnetwork and
protect theinvestment you made when you provided the convenience of wireless
networking.
The 11g WIRELESS LANACCESSPOINT offers transferrates upto54Mbpsinthe

faster and more efficientlyor watch astreaming video smoothly. Networkadministrators

privileges —access tosensitive information, specificdepartments or

Awireless localarea network (WLAN) isacellular computernetwork thattransmits and
receivesdata with radio signalsinsteadof wires. Wireless LANs areused increasingly in
both homeandoffice environments, andpublicareas suchasairports, coffeeshopsand
universities. Innovativeways to utilize WLANtechnology are helping peopleto work and
communicate moreefficiently.Increased mobility and theabsence of cabling and other
fixed infrastructure have proven to bebeneficial for many users.
Wireless userscanusethe same applications they useonawired network. Wireless
adaptercardsused onlaptopanddesktop systems supportthesame protocolsas
Ethernet adapter cards.
Under many circumstances, it may be desirablefor mobilenetwork devicesto linkto a
conventional EthernetLAN in order touse servers, printersor anInternet connection
supplied through the wired LAN. AWireless Access Point (AP)isadevice usedto
providethis link.

Standards-Based Technology
The 11g WIRELESS LAN ACCESS POINT utilizes the 802.11b and 802.11g standards.
The IEEE 802.11g standard is anextension of the 802.11b standard. It increases the
data rateup to 54 Mbps within the 2.4GHzband. 802.11g utilize OFDM technology.
Thismeans that inmost environments, within the specified rangeof this device, you will
be able totransferlarge filesquickly or even watch a moviein MPEG format overyour
network without noticeable delays. This technologyworks by transmittinghigh-speed
digital data over aradiowave utilizing OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division
Multiplexing) technology. OFDM works by splitting theradio signal into multiple smaller
sub-signals that are then transmittedsimultaneously at different frequencies tothe
receiver. OFDM reduces theamount of crosstalk (interference)in signaltransmissions.
The 11g WIRELESS LAN ACCESS POINT offers themost advancednetwork security
features available today, including: WPA.
In additionto its compatibility with 802.11g devices, the 11g WIRELESSLAN ACCESS
POINT is compatible with 802.11bdevices. This means that if you have an existing
802.11bnetwork, or a network with a mixture of 802.11g and 802.11b, the devices in that
network will be compatible with the 11gWIRELESS LAN ACCESS POINT.

Installation Considerations
Desktop andlaptopcomputers with wireless network adapters installed can access the
11g WIRELESS LAN ACCESS POINT from virtually anywhere withinits operating range.
Keep in mind, however, that thenumber,thickness and locationof walls, ceilings, or other
objects that thewirelesssignalsmust pass through, may limit the range. Typical ranges
vary depending on the types of materialsand background RF(radio frequency) noisein
your home orbusiness. The key tomaximizing wireless rangeis to followthese basic
guidelines:

Keep thenumber ofwalls and ceilings betweenthe 11g WIRELESS LAN ACCESS
POINT and other network devices to aminimum - each wallor ceiling can reduce your
wireless product’s rangefrom 3-90 feet (1-30 meters.) Position yourdevices so that the
numberof walls orceilings is minimized.

Be aware of thedirect line between networkdevices. A wall that is 1.5 feet thick (.5
meters), at a45-degreeangle appears tobe almost 3 feet (1 meter) thick. At a2-degree
angleit looks over42 feet (14 meters) thick!Position devices sothat thesignal will travel
straight througha wall or ceiling (insteadof at an angle) for betterreception.

Building materials canimpede the wireless signal - asolid metal dooror aluminum studs
may haveanegative effect on range. Try to position wireless devicesand computerswith
wireless adapters so that thesignal passes through drywall or opendoorways and not
othermaterials.

Keep your product away (at least 3-6 feet or 1-2 meters)from electrical devices or
appliances that may generateextreme RFnoise.

Getting Started
An Infrastructure wireless network contains anAccess Point or Router. The
Infrastructure Network example, shown here, contains thefollowing network devices:

IP ADDRESS
Note: If youareusing aDHCP-capable router in your network setupyouwill
not needtoassign astatic IPAddress.
If you need to assignIP Addresses to thecomputers onthenetwork, please
remember that the IP Address for each computer mustbe inthe same IP
Address range as all the computers inthe network, andtheSubnet mask
must be exactly thesame for all thecomputers in thenetwork.
Forexample: If thefirst computeris assignedan IP Address of10.0
.0.2witha
Subnet Mask of 255.0.0.0, then the second computer can be assigned anIP
Addressof 10.0.0.3with a Subnet Mask of 255.0.0.0, etc.
IMPORTANT:If computers or other devices are assigned the same IP
Address, one or more of the devices maynot be visible onthe network.

For a typical wireless setup (as shown above,)please do the following:
1. You will need a broadband Internet access (Cable/DSL) subscription
2. Consult with yourCable/DSL providerforproperinstallation of themodem
3. Connect the modem to an Ethernet broadbandrouter.
4. Connect the routerto the 11g WIRELESS LAN ACCESSPOINT.
5. If youare connecting a desktop computer in your network, you caninstall any 11g
compliant wireless PCI adapter into anavailable PCI slot.
6. InstallaWLAN 11gCardBus cardinto theNotebook PC.

Usingthe Web ConfigurationMenu
Wheneveryou want toconfigure yournetworkor the 11g WIRELESS LAN ACCESS
POINT, you can access theConfiguration Menuby opening the web-browserandtyping
in theIPAddress of the 11g WIRELESS LAN ACCESS POINT. The 11g WIRELESS LAN
ACCESS POINTdefault IP Address is shown below:
n Open the webbrowser
n Type in the IP Address
of the Access Point
Note: if youhavechanged thedefault IPAddress assignedto the11g WIRELESS LAN
ACCESS POINT, makesure to enterthecorrect IPAddress.
n Type admin in the User
Name field
n Leavethe Password
blank
n Click OK
Once entered,the CurrentStatus screen will appear. If yourAccess Point is an
11gonlydevice, therewillbeonly WLAN 802.11gStatus available foryour
viewing.If you are going touse theoption, Setup Wizard, pleaserefer to the
Quick InstallationGuide for moreinformation.

Advanced Setup>Access Point>Configuration>IP Address
Thiswindowdisplays the default settings of the11g WIRELESSLAN ACCESS POINT.
Get IP From: Choose Manual or Auto. If you select Manual you willmanually input the
IP Address. If you select Auto the DHCP server onyour network will automatically assign
an IPAddress.
IP Address: The default IP Address is 10.0.0.1.
Subnet Mask: The Subnet Mask is 255.0.0.0
Default Gateway: Input the IP Address of the Default Gateway (therouter in the
network).
Click Apply if you havemade any changes.
Note: In theConfigurationscreens that follow, you will be able to configure settings
for 802.11gdevices inyour network. Settings that you input for802.11g devices will
also apply to 802.11bdevices in your network.

Advanced Setup>Access Point>Configuration>DeviceInformation:
Clickingon the “DeviceInformation”menuwillbring out theabove menu. It allows you
to modify for the AP System Name andSystem Contact information. Just type in your
newinformation on whiteout fields, and click on “
Apply”button tosavethe information.

Wireless Band: Select the 802.11b or 802.11g.
SSID: (Service Set Identifier) “default”is the defaultsettingfor802.11g. The SSID is
a unique namethat identifies a network. Alldevices on a network must share the same
SSID namein order tocommunicateonthenetwork. If you choosetochange theSSID
fromthe default setting, input your newSSID name in thisfield. TheSSID can be up to 32
characters in length.
SSID Broadcast: “Enable”will allowall WLAN clients to observeits Wireless LAN
network presence. “Disable”will make theAccess Point invisible toanyclient scanning.
Channel: Channel 6is the default channel for 802.11band802.11g. Select adifferent
channel if you want to change the default setting. All deviceson thenetwork must be set
to the samechannel to communicate onthe network. (Current wireless network adapters
willautomatically scanfor the channel toestablishconnectionwith the access point.)
Frequency: The frequency range will be displayed.
Data Rate: Select the transmission ratefor the network
Beacon Interval: Beacons arepackets sent byan Access Point to synchronize a
wireless network. Specify a Beaconinterval value (20-1000.) Default (100)is
recommended.
DTIM: (Delivery Traffic Indication Message)Enter avalue between 1 and 255 for the
Delivery Traffic Indication Message (DTIM.)A DTIM is acountdown informing clients of
the next windowfor listeningto broadcast andmulticast messages.
FragmentLength: This value should remainat its default settingof 2346. If you
experience a high packet errorrate, you may slightly increaseyour Fragmentation
Threshold within the valuerangeof 256 to 2346.Setting theFragmentation Threshold too
lowmay result in poorperformance.
RTS Length: Thisvalueshould remain at its default setting of 2346. If you encounter
inconsistentdata flow, only minor modificationsto the valuerange between 256 and 2346
are recommended.
Transmit Power: Adjust the transmission range here. Thistool canbehelpful for security
purposes if you wish to limit the transmission range.
Pleaseclick on “
Apply”button to have the Access Point saving the newoptions once you
havecompleted the modification.

Advanced Setting> Access Point>Configuration>WLANpartition
WLANPartitionis used to allow/disallow traffic among usersor transmission media.
Wireless Band: For 11g only AP, there is only IEEE802.11g selection forthe field.
Internal StationConnection: When “Enabled”, every WLAN station connected tothe
Access Point can seeeachother throughPING, FTP, TELNET or NetworkNeighborhood
Search. Otherwise, any station probing will becut off. The default setting is “
Enabled”.
Ethernet to WLAN Access:When “ Enabled”, Ethernet broadcast packets are allowed
to penetratetheAccess Point tothe WLAN client(s). By disabling theoption, noonefrom
the Ethernet side can initiate any probingaction on theWLAN client(s). The broadcast
packets from theWLANclient(s)into the Ethernet LAN side willnot beaffected by this
option setting.
Please click on the “Apply”button to save the options once you havecompleted the
changes.

Control:
Disabled -Disable theAccess Control feature
Accept - Accept the MAC Addresses inthelist into the network
Reject - Reject theMAC Addresses in thelist from participating in thenetwork
Input MAC Address: Input the MAC Addresses into thelist. Click “Save”to add the
address into the Current Access Control List.
Current Access ControlList: An administrator can viewor deleteanyoftheadded item
from the table shownhere.

Wireless Band: If theaccess point isan 11g device, IEEE 802.11gwill be the only
choice here.
Authentication: Select from one of the following:
n Open System: the11gWIRELESS LAN ACCESSPOINT will be visible to all
devices on the network. Open System is the default setting.
n SharedKey: in order to access the 11g WIRELESS LAN ACCESS POINT onthe
network, the devicemust be listedinthe Access Control List
n SharedKey/Open System: click heretoselect both options
WEP: Select Enabled or Disabled (the default setting is Disabled)
WEPKeyType: Select HEX (Hexadecimal)or ASCII
WEPKeySize: Select 64, 128or 256 bit for 802.11b and 802.11g
Valid Key: Select the key that you willuse from one of thefour keysintheKey Table.
KeyTable: Input up to 4keys using the format that you haveselected in Wep Key Type.
Hexadecimal digits consist of thenumbers 0-9and the letters A-F ASCII
(American
Standard CodeforInformation Interchange)is acodeforrepresenting
English letters
as numbers from 0-127

Old Password: To change your password, first enter the old password

Telnet Service: When enabled, Administrator can access thedeviceconfiguration via
Telnet operation.
Timeout: Under the Telnet session, the devicewilllog off the administratorif he is
inactivefor more thanthe timeout period specifiedhere.
