2 SAFETY
2.1 IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Always read the maintenance manual before manipulating the valve

2.2 GENERAL INFORMATIONS
The following advice is given to ensure optimum use of the equipment.
•The tasks must be performed in the order specified.
•A range of greases for cylinder seals and valve seals has been defined in
accordance with their nature and regulations and according to their use (see § 8.8).

3 INTRODUCTION
CAUTION: Before any intervention, it is necessary to check with the person in charge
that the installation is stopped and drained (empty and unpressurised pipes, pumps
stopped, tanks isolated or empty).
4 VALVE DISASSEMBLING
If the valve is fitted with a signalling box, it may be necessary for disassembly to first
separate the signalling assembly from the actuator.
4.1 DISASSEMBLING THE SIGNALING BLOCK
Disassembling without disconnection
CAUTION: Before starting any work on the box, it is important to ensure that the
air supply is closed and that the circuit is purged.

mains supply is switched off, that the air supply is closed and that the circuit is
purged.

4.2 SEPARATION OF THE AUTOMATIC SYSTEM FROM THE VALVE
•Unscrew the two screws [55] holding the equipment to the valve half-bodies.
•Uncouple the equipment from the valve and remove the position indicator index [52].
•Identify the position of the shutter (valve normally closed or normally open).

•Unscrew the fixing screws [55] from the nuts [61] on the half-bodies [56], separate them and
remove the shutter [60] with its seal [57] and the plug [58] (DN3/4 USand DN25 only).
•Remove the wear rings [59] and pull the shutterout of the seal.

6 DISASSEMBLING THE MANOEUVRING SYSTEM
6.1 DISASSEMBLING THE AUTOMATIC ACTUATOR (changing the inner seals)
WARNING: This operation must be carried out with suitable tools and with the necessary
precautions (SPRING UNDER TENSION)
Note: After any maintenance work on DEFINOX products, it is imperative to check the
proper functioning of the equipment concerned: Sealing, pressure, etc.
6.1.1 Disassembling the accessories
Remove the air connector [28], the pierced plug [29], the CHC screw [30] and the lock
washer [31].

6.1.2 Disassembling the internal parts of the actuator
ATTENTION:SPRING UNDER TENSION
WARNING: This operation is dangerous if the tools are not suitable. We recommend that
you use a hydraulic press, or a tool as shown in the diagram below.
Note: Consider a minimum spring travel of L = 100 mm when using the tooling.
Note: If the equipment is fitted with a signalling unit, mark the position of the base in relation
to the body of the unit before dismantling.

With the actuator placed vertically:
•Press the base down to release the ring [32].
•Release the ring [32] from its groove with a small screwdriver.
•Release the pressure to remove the base [33] with its seals and segment.
•Remove the drive cam [34] with its seal, the spring [35], the bronze rollers [36], the drive
shaft [37] with its seal, the retaining washer [38], the bearing shields [39] and the roller
bearing [40] from the actuator casing [27].

7 CHANGING THE SEALS AND REASSEMBLING
7.1 INTRODUCTION
The components of our valves are listed and marked in these instructions. You can find there
the information you need to order spare parts.
7.2 REASSEMBLING THE AUTOMATIC MANOEUVRING SYSTEM
This is the reverse of disassembling. However, please note the following for the automatic
system:
•Before reassembling the parts, grease the assembly with a suitable grease (non-food,
water- and temperature-resistant type → Example for information: Q8 Rembrandt EP 2,
see § 8.8). Ensure that the greases used are compatible with the elastomer seals.
•Do not damage the seals on the edges of the parts.
•Take care not to damage the seals [42] and [43] on the bottom, and the seal [45] on the
drive cam when reassembling with the press.
•Make sure the ring [32] is correctly positioned in the groove of the barrel before
releasing the pressure.
•Operate the actuator before continuing with the assembly.
oAssemble the O-ring [44] in the groove of the drive
shaft [37], dry fit.
oGrease the 4 sides of the drive shaft square [37]
(without greasing the seal).
oUse a screwdriver to shape the segment [41] and place it in the
inner groove of the cylinder base [33] (do not use a guide to
force the segment into the groove).
oDry-fit the red seal [42] in the inner groove [33], of
the cylinder base [33], taking care to fit the lips inside
the barrel (hand-fit without a screwdriver or other
device, as there is a risk of damaging the seal).
oGrease the O-ring [43] and place it in the outer groove
of the cylinder base [33].

oGrease the O-ring [46] and fit it into the groove in the
barrel [27].
oTurn the barrel [27] over and fit the guide [47].
Note: The bearing flanges [39] have 1 rough side
and 1 radiused side.
oFor the 1st bearing flange [39], the face with the radius
will be towards the bottom of the barrel and the rough
face towards the top of the barrel, grease the rough face
and insert the flange into the barrel [27].
oGrease the roller bearing [40] on both sides and insert
it into the barrel [27].
oFor the 2nd bearing flange [39], the raw face will be
mounted towards the bottom of the shaft, grease the
raw face and insert the flange into the shaft [27].

oInsert the plastic retaining washer [38] (paying
(attention to the direction, shoulder side up to
centre the spring) into the barrel [27] then
remove the guide [47].
oLubricate the inside of the bronze rollers [36] and
place them on the pins in the barrel [27].
oGrease the top of the barrel up to the level of the
rollers.
oInstalling the spring [35].

oGrease the seal [45] and fit it in place, grease the
pitch of the drive cam [34].
oPosition the shaft [37] in the square of the
drive cam [34].
oInstall the guide [49] by screwing it
onto the drive cam assembly.
oPosition the drive cam [34] in the barrel [27],
taking care to align the marks on the barrel
and drive cam to ensure correct positioning
of the bronze rollers and cam.
Position the assembly on the press mounting.

oPlace the cylinder base [33] on the drive cam [34]
using the guide [48] to avoid damaging the U-joint.
Remove the guide after fitting the cylinder base.
oPush the base about 1 cm under the ring
groove, fit the ring [32] and check that it is
well positioned in its groove before
reassembling the press.
oRemove the actuator from the press and
lay it flat on the table, pull on the guide [49]
to reveal the groove in the drive shaft, you
should feel the shaft go through a notch,
check by pushing the drive shaft, it should
stay in place and not sink into the barrel.
oRemove the guide, fit the locking washer [31]
(rounded side outwards), put a drop of
threadlocker on the CHC screw [30] and screw
the assembly together, replace the pierced plug [29]
and the angled air connector [28] on the base.

7.3 CHANGING THE ACTUATOR'S CONFIGURATION GEN 2
Conversion of a GEN 2 single-acting actuator to double-acting:
After dismantling the air connector [28], the pierced plug [29], the CHC screw [30] and the
lock washer [31].
Place the actuator vertically on the press:
•Push in the cylinder base to release the ring [32].
•Release the ring [32] from its groove with a small screwdriver.
•Release the pressure to remove the base [33] with its seals and segment.
•Remove the drive cam [34] with its seal, the spring [35], the drive shaft [37] with its seal,
the retaining washer [38], the bearing shields [39] and the roller bearing [40] from the
actuator casing [27].
To change the actuator to double-acting, follow the reassembly steps for the single-acting
actuator up to the last but one step without replacing the spring [35], retaining washer [38],
bearing shields [39] and roller bearing [40].
After replacing the ring [32],
•Install the retaining plate [50] using TH screws [51] on the cylinder base [33].
•Install the lock washer [31], the CHC screw [30], the air connection [28] in place of the
pierced plug [29] and the air connection [28] on the cylinder base.
N.B.: For your safety, make sure that the ring is correctly positioned in its groove. If the
ring is damaged or deformed, it must be replaced.

7.4 REASSEMBLING THE BUTTERFLY VALVE
Thisoperationiscarried outinthereverseordertodismantling,butthe following advice should be
followed:
•Apply a suitable grease (such as Paraliq 703, see section 8.8) to the guides of the
shutter, the ½ bodies and the seal.
•To centre the seal correctly, keep the shutter in the closed position while tightening the
½ bodies.
7.5 ASSEMBLY OF THE VALVE AND MANOEUVRING SYSTEM.
Thisisalsothereverseof disassembling.Thefollowingadviceshouldbefollowedfortheautomatic
system:
•Don't forget to fit the position indicator and, above all, to check the working position of
the N.C. or D.A. valve (position of the drive squares).
•Before the final connections to the network, check the normal working of the valve.
