Please contact authorized people to change the battery.
The battery is polarized, please do not reverse the end terminals. Battery are considered
dangerous weste goods and be destroyed following the present regulation.
CLEANING THE TERMINAL
Use a clean and soft cloth. Wet the cloth with water or natural detergent if it is necessary to
remove any stains.
Never use chemical products such as petrol or solvents.

1. GENERALITY
This operating manual describes the installation
procedures and the main features of the
SNM 70, the innovative K56Flex™ host modem.
DEAR CUSTOMER,
Thank you for choosing a Digicom modem.
Untilrecently only thelarge InternetService Providershavebeen ableto offer56Kconnectivity
totheir subscribers. Now Digicom,Italy’smajor modemmanufacturer,providesthisinnovative
and unique 56K host modem that will enable any business to benefit from the near ISDN
connecting speeds for remote access to LANs, BBSs or PC’s.
The SNM70 K56Flex host modem is a direct replacement for the slower 33.6 V34bis modem.
At the host site (or remote LAN access node) the SNM-70 connects to the telephone network via a
single ISDN Basic rate Interface (BRI). The SNM-70 has 2 RS232 communication ports for interface
to the host equipment and can accept 2 simultaneous incoming connections at 56K.
To realise the 56K connection speed the remote user (client) must have a K56Flex standard
modem and simply dials one of the two telephone numbers to connect to the host modem.
Onhandshaking the SNM70determines themaximumspeed of56K andareliable connection
is established. If the incoming call is from a slower 33.6 V34 modem then connection is made
at 28.8/33.6 Kbps, or the fastest speed supported by the remote user modem.

2. INSTALLATION
2.1. HARDWARE INSTALLATION
See the following picture to connect
your modem to the COM port of your
PC or Router and the ISDN cable to
the BRI socket.
See the following picture to connect
your modem to the GEO port of your
Macintoshandthe ISDN cableto the BRI
socket.
After the cable installation, connect the power cord to the
mainpower supplyoutletand switchON thepower switch
on the rear panel. Check that the green LED PWR
indicator light is on.
For the next step see the section Software Installation.
2.2. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
l WINDOWS 95/NT4.0 DRIVER
Before starting with the software installation, please read the file Readme.txt present on the
Floppy Disk or the CD ROM included with the modem package. In this file you can read more
details about the driver installation for the different versions of Windows 95 and also the latest
release notes or driver upgrades not available at the time of printing this manual.
l MACINTOSH Driver ARA/Open Transport
Make a copy of the SNM70 driver file from the Floppy Disk or the CD ROM to your hard disk
in the folder Modem Script (System Folder- Extension-Modem Script).
Your SNM 70 driver is present in the modem list and available for any application that uses
ARA/Open Transport.
Remember to select the correct communication port in the application in accordance with the
hardware installation.
l OTHER DRIVERS
For other Operating Systems, see the installation procedures on the Floppy Disk or the CD
ROM included with the modem package.

Installation
2.2.1. WINDOWS 95/NT4.0
1. Run Windows95/NT4.0
2. Select from the START icon: Settings-Control Pannel- Modem-Add
3. From the window Install New Modem put a tick in the box “Don’t detect my modem: I will select it
from a list” and select the button: Next.
4. From the new window Install New Modem click the button Disk
5. Insert the Floppy disk or the CD ROM in the appropriate drive and from the window : Install from
disk check that the correct driver letter appears showing where your Floppy/CD ROM is inserted
(eg. A or D), then click the button OK
6. From the list select the driver to use (e.g. Digicom SNM 70) and click Next
7. Select the COM port where your modem is connected, then clik Next and then Finish
Your modem is installed and ready to make the first connection.
2.3. FRONT PANEL
On the front panel are present LED that indicate the most important interface circuit in use. In
the following table, is present the complete description and function of each LED:

3. DESCRIPTION
3. DUAL MODEM SETUP
The SNM70 has dual, fully featured, digital K56flex modems inside one box: infact on the rear
pannel you can see the RS232 serial interface connector of modem 1 (orA) indicated as JC
and the RS232 serial interface connector of modem 2 (or B) indicated as JA.
For the above reason, the user must setup of the two modems separatly. We suggest startingt
the setup with the modem 1 connector JC and then proceed with the modem 2 connector JA.
The following AT command description is valid for each modem.
3.1. MODEM AT COMMAND SET
The modems support the AT command set, to define the configuration, initiate or terminate
modem communication, and to test the modem and the communication link. The modem will
work in two basic modes: command mode and data mode.
Command mode is when the modem is not connected to another modem, therefore “Off Line”
or in a idle condition. In this mode the modem will accept commands beginning withATprefix.
Data mode is when the modem is connected to another modem, that is an “On Line” condition
or functioning. In this mode all the characters sent from computer are interpreted as data and
they are sent to the remote modem. You may switch from data to command mode by entering
anescapesequence.Thedefault escapesequenceis +++this must haveat least onesecond
before and after being keyed. To go back into data mode simply typeATO.
Data Length
Each caracter of the AT command must be an ASCII code with any of the following format
combinations:

The modem will accept even, Odd, mark, or space.
3.1.1. AT COMMAND SET DESCRIPTION
AT Attention
All the characters following the letters ‘AT’ are commands. InAT command mode the modem
automatically detects the computer speed and parity format. The modem will response using
the same speed and parity format ofAT command.
