2 Introduction
The See3CAM_80 is a 8.0 Mega pixel, UVC Compliant, USB3.0 SuperSpeed camera from e-con
Systems. e-con Systems is a leading embedded Product Design Services company which
specializes in the advanced camera solutions and the See3CAM is a new family of USB3.0
SuperSpeed camera products launched by e-con. The See3CAM_80 is a member of this family.
The See3CAM_80 is based on e-con’s 8MP Autofocus MIPI Camera Module,
e-CAM80_MI8825_MOD. This AF camera module is based on 1/3.2”, OV8825 image sensor from
OmniVision. The See3CAM_80 is capable of supporting VGA, 720p (HD), 1080p (Full HD) at 30
fps and full resolution 8MP at 11 fps when interfaced to a USB3.0 host port.
The See3CAM_80 is UVC-compliant camera and it does not require any drivers to be installed on
the PC. The native UVC drivers of Windows and Linux Operating Systems shall be compatible
with this camera. E-con also provides the sample application that demonstrates some of the
features of this camera. However, this camera can be utilized any DirectShow application such as
Skype etc.
This document describes about how the users can connect the See3CAM_80 camera board with
Host Port and necessary precautions to be taken if any.
3 Scope
The scope of this document is limited to providing necessary overview of the
See3CAM_80 camera board and how to use the same on a typical PC based environment.
4 Disclaimer
The specifications of See3CAM_80 camera board and instructions on how to connect this board
with PC are provided as reference only and e-con Systems reserves the right to edit/modify this
document without any prior intimation of whatsoever.
5 Description
See3CAM_80 is a 65 mm x 16 mm small form factor device with a high performance 8 Mega
Pixel pluggable camera module with auto focus especially targeted for embedded devices with
PC Operating Systems such as Windows 7 and Linux etc.
High Definition USB Camera Board is fully compliant with USB Video Class (UVC) 1.0 Standard.
So video streaming through UVC is possible without any special drivers on Operating Systems
that have built-in support for UVC standards. For example, the See3CAM_80 does not require
any device drivers to be installed on Windows 7 (both regular PC versions and the embedded
versions) as these Operating Systems come with the Microsoft supplied UVC drivers built-in.
The See3CAM_80 is a USB 3.0 camera capable of streaming camera frames VGA, 720p and
1080p @ 30 fps and 8MP @ 11 fps when connected to USB3.0 host port by leveraging the full
throughput of USB3.0. It also supports all the features with a USB 2.0 fallback. However, in USB
2.0, See3CAM_80 can stream only in VGA resolution and at about 30 fps only.

6 Setting up the See3CAM_80
This section describes how to connect the See3CAM_80 to the PC. The
See3CAM_80 camera is a USB 3.0 Superspeed client device. The
See3CAM_80 camera is supplied along with a USB cable to connect to the USB Type-A host
port.
The following sections describe the parts supplied in the kit.
•See3CAM_80 board with e-CAM80_MI8825_MOD
•USB3.0 Cable
6.1 See3CAM_80 to PC Host interconnecting Cable
The USB3.0 A to micro-B type cable is used to connect See3CAM_80 camera board to the PC
will be supplied by e-con Systems.

6.2 Connecting the board with Host
Please follow the below steps to connect See3CAM_80 board with PC or Laptop. Also ensure
that the board is connected to USB3.0 Superspeed port. If the board is connected to USB2.0
Highspeed port, only VGA resolution at 30 fps will be streamed. e-CAMView will show white
screen when any other resolution is selected.
6.2.1 Identification of USB3.0 Connector
The location of USB3.0 connector on See3CAM_80 is shown in below figure

6.2.2 Insertion of USB3.0 Cable in Connector
The USB3.0 Cable provided by e-con Systems with should be inserted with USB3.0 connector as
shown in below figure.

6.2.3 Connecting the board to Host
Identify a USB3.0 port. The port which has the below logo is USB3.0 Port.

The USB3.0 cable needs to be inserted to superspeed USB3.0 port of PC or Laptop.

After the insertion of USB3.0 Cable with USB3.0 connector on the board and USB Host, the LED
(D7) will glow in Red colour. This indicates that the board is powered ON.

7 Conclusion
This document describes How to connect See3CAM_80 board to USB3.0 Host and how to get it
working. For further information please refer datasheet and application note for reference
schematic on trigger and Strobe usage.
