chine. Thepurchaseragreestodefend,protect,indemnify,andhold
EastmanMachine Companyharmless fromand againstall claims,
losses,expenses,damages,and liabilities to the extent thatthey
have been caused by the purchaser’s failure to comply with the
termsand instructionsof thismanual.
SafetyInformation
thorizedmodification mayresult inserious personalinjuries
totheuser. Electricalconnectionstothis machinemustbe
madebya qualifiedelectricianfamiliarwithapplicablecodes
andregulations. Topreventelectrocution,agroundleadmust
beconnectedto terminal“E”on theattachmentplug.

Misuse of this machine or use of this machine as part of

WARNING
• Thismachine isequippedwith avery sharpand dangerous
knife. Keephands,arms,andhairawayfromtheknifeareaat
all times. When the machine is not in use, keep the knife
guardloweredat all times.Safety glasses andappropriate
clothingmay preventserious personalinjuries.
• Disconnectthepowerandairsupplyfrom themachinewhen
itisnotinuse orduringroutinemaintenance,including lubri-
cation.
• Thepurchasermustinstructalloperatorsintheproperuseof
themachineaccordingtotheinstructionsonthemachineand
inthis manual. Thistrainingmustincludeinstruction onthe
potentialsafetyhazardsarisingfromtheuseormisuseofthe
machine.In addition tosuch training, thepurchaser should
providewrittenworkinstructionsasnecessarytoensurecor-
rectuse ofthe machineforspecificcuttingapplications.

Overview
The Robin is a light weight, 4 inch round knife machine with the
powertocutheavy cloth and maneuverability to cutintricatepat-
terns. Itisavailablewithacoolrunning Perma-Fieldmotorineither
110or220volts. TheRobin’scompactstandardandthinbaseplate
combinetoreducefriction,lettingitcutwith easethroughtheheavi-
estoflays.
WARNING
Thecutterisequippedwithaverysharpknife.Failureto
keephands,armsandhairawayfromtheknifeareamay
result in serious personal injury.
PowerConnection
CAUTION
Checktobesurethepowersupplyisthesamevoltage
ratingasstampedon the nameplate.
Note: Voltage varying more than 10% (11v for 110 volt
machine,22vfor220voltmachine)maydamageyour
electronics.
Maintenance
TheRobinisdesignedtorequireonlyminimalmaintenanceformany
yearsoftroublefree service. The following information willaidin
keepingyourequipmentrunningatitstopefficiency.
WARNING
Beforeperforminganyofthefollowing procedures,makesure
thattheattachmentplughasbeendisconnectedfromthepower
source.
Knife Replacement
Laythemachineon its side, knife side up. Placeadriftor screw-
driverthroughtheholeintheknife ataboutthepositionshown“A”to
stopthekniferotating,whileremovingtheknifebolt“B”. Lifttheknife
guard“C”upslightlyandatthesametimeslidingforwarddisengag-
ingthe pin “D”from front slotof knifeguard. Removeflange cover
“E”.
Grasp knife “F” at open area and lift over knife flange “G”, at the
sametime slidingknife upfrom undershear plate“H”.
WARNING
Theknifeisverysharp.Failuretouseproperprecautions
whenhandlingmay resultinserious personalinjury.
Replacewithanewknife,beveledsidedown,carefullyslidingunder
shearplate “H”andover knifeflange“G”. Be sureto alignslots“J”
inknife withthe flanges“K” onknifehub,makingsureknifeisprop-
erly seated flush with the knife hub. Replace remaining parts in
reverseorderastheywereremoved. Doublecheck allscrewstobe
sureallparts aretightlysecured.

Shear Plate Replacement
Removeknifeblade(see knife replacement). From underside of
baseplateassembly,remove (2) twoscrews“K” holding inspring
block“L”. Liftout springblockandshearplateassembly. Separate
shearplate“M” fromspringblock by removing(2) two screws“N”.
Replacewithnewshearplate andreassembleinreverseorder.
Knife Sharpening and Sharpener Replacement
To obtaina fine, keen edgeonthe blade, press lightly againstthe
sharpenerbutton “P”with aconstantpressurewhileisrunning.
To replacesharpener stone, firstremove knifeblade(see knifere-
placement). Insertscrewdriverintoslottedheadofsharpenerbutton
andhold hex bushing“Q” inplace. Turncounterclockwise andre-
move sharpener button and spring “S”. Set these parts aside for
laterreassembly. Removescrew“T”toseparatehexbushing,spring
washer“U” andemery wheel“V”. Replaceemerywheeland reas-
sembleinreverseorder.
Lubrication
Knifegear“Z”shouldberemovedandpackedwithEastmanLubriplate
grease every three months. First remove knife blade (see knife
replacement)toexpose supportplateassembly826C1-8. Remove
three(3)screws“W”. Next,turna10-32X11/2“longscrewintothe
centerof theknife flange“X”. Thisscrewwillactasanextractorso
thatthegear,bearing,knifeflangeandbase plateassemblycanbe
removedasaunit. Continueturningscrewuntil approximately1/8”
ofthreadisleftexposedandliftouttheassembly. Repackgearteeth
onlywithgrease. Remove extractor screwandreassemble in re-
verse order. BE careful to start seat bearing “Y” squarely during
reassembly.
Motor Brush Replacement
Remove(4)fourscrews“A”fromcoverplate. Liftoffcoverplateand
coverinsulation. Remove (2)screws“B” andcarefully removecir-
cuitboard “C”. Usingcarenottopullwiresout,turnboardoverand
loosentwo screws“D” toremovemotorbrushes& pigtails.
Replacewith newmotorbrushes,bevelcorneratwirepigtailslides
intobrushholder“E”facingdown,with wirecomingoutofslot “F”to
fastener“D”. Wrappigtailsaroundscrew fastenersandtighten“D”.
Turnassemblyoverand, with your fingers, separatethebrushes
enoughtofitovercommutatorbars“H”andatthesametimeworking
circuitboard insidecavityinsulation“J”. Continueworking assem-
blydownuntilbrushessnapintopositionandflattoinsidestandard.
Replacetwoscrews “B”holdingcircuit boardinposition. Replace
coverand cover insulationsecuring withfourscrews “A”
Switch Replacement
Remove(2)twoscrews301C12-5fromrightsidehandle22C2-3and
separateright sidehandlefrom standard. Removeswitch 580C1-
109 and switch insulation 8C4-81. Replace with new switch and
reassembleinreverse order. Make sureinsulationis inplaceand
undamagedbeforereassemblinghandle.
Level becomes unacceptable, the following procedures
shouldbecarriedoutbeforerepairsareconsidered.

Electricalconnectionstothisdeviceshouldbemadebyaqualified
electrician who is familiar with applicable codes and regulations.
To ensure operators safety, a ground lead must be connected to
terminal "E" on the attachment plug. Disconnect this equipment
from electrical power before proceeding with any disassembly
for adjustment, inspection or repair.
