1.1 Denion of Warnings and Cauons

For safe operaon from the start, read these instrucons carefully before you install
or commission the equipment and keep them safe for future use.
Read all the safety instrucons in this secon and the rest of this manual carefully
and make sure that you obey these instrucons. The equipment must only be
operated and maintained by trained personnel in the proper condion and as
described in this instrucon manual.
Obey local and state requirements and regulaons. If you have any quesons about
safety, operaon or maintenance of the device, please contact our nearest subsidiary.
Important safety informaon is highlighted as warning and cauon instrucons. Obey
these instrucons.
WARNING:
If you do not obey a warning, there is a risk of injury or death. Dierent symbols are
used according to the type of hazard.
CAUTION:
If you do not obey a cauon, there is a risk of minor injury, damage to equipment,
related equipment or process.

2. Important safety informaon
2.1 Mechanical hazards
WARNING: VACUUM HAZARD
Risk of injury. Do not expose any part of the human body to vacuum as it can cause
injury.
WARNING: OPERATION SAFETY
Risk of injury or damage to the equipment. Do not operate the pump with an open
and accessible inlet. Make sure that the vacuum connecons, oil lling and oil
draining ports are not open during the operaon of the pump.
2.2 Electrical hazards
WARNING: HIGH ELECTRIC VOLTAGE
Risk of electric shock. Covers marked with this symbol must only be opened by
trained electricians aer the pump is Lockout and Tagout.
1. Disconnect the unit from the power supply before you start any work on the
pump.
2. Always operate the pump with a properly connected protecve earth conductor
and make sure that the motor connecon box is closed.
3. Lay the connecng lines so that these cannot be damaged. Protect the lines
against humidity and contact with uids.
4. Avoid thermally stressing the lines by unfavourable laying. Provide strain relief for
the connecng lines so that the plugs and the line connectors are not subjected to
excessively high mechanical stresses.
5. Lay the electric feed lines so that there is no risk of tripping over them.
2.3 Thermal hazards
CAUTION: HOT SURFACE
Risk of burn injury. During operaon the pump is hot and some surfaces can reach a
temperature higher than 85 °C (185 °F). Switch o the pump and let it cool down
before any intervenon or take appropriate precauons. It is recommended to use an
oil casing or pump touching protecon at high ambient temperatures. Make sure that
you wear protecve gloves before you touch any part during or just aer the pump
operaon.

2. Never remove the oil-ll or oil-drain plugs when the pump is in operaon. There
exists the risk of suering burns. Always wear protecve gloves and protecve
goggles also for protecon against the oil.
2.4 Hazards caused by materials and substances
1. The pump is not designed for:
▪ pumping of dusty, aggressive, corrosive, ammable or explosive gases or gases
mixtures
▪ pumping of oxygen or other highly reacve gases with a greater concentraon
than the atmospheric concentraon (> 20%)
▪ working in a ammable or explosive environment.
For all these cases, special materials must be used. In case of doubt, contact
us.
Also, see the limits of use indicated in the CE declaraon of conformity.
2. Depending on the process involved, dangerous substances and oil may escape
from the pump. Follow the necessary safety precauons.
3. Take appropriate precauons to make sure that the pump cannot start.
4. If the pump has pumped hazardous gases it will be necessary to determine the
nature of the hazard involved and take the appropriate safety precauons.
5. Take adequate safety precauons before you open the intake or exhaust port.
6. Follow the instrucons for environment protecon when you dispose of the used
oil or exhaust lters.
7. Some pumps use peruoropolyether (PFPE) as a lubricant. When handling (PFPE)
you should observe the following: During thermal decomposion at temperatures
over 290 °C toxic and corrosive gases are released. When handling PFPE keep it
away from open res. Do not smoke with PFPE on your ngers.
8. Touch the inner secons of the pumps only while wearing clean gloves and use a
clean tool. Do the necessary work in clean and dry rooms.
2.5 Danger of pump damage
1. There is a risk of severe damage if any object falls in the pump. Make sure that no
objects (screws, welding beads, nuts, washers, pieces of wire, ngs etc.) enter
through the intake port of the pump.
2. Make sure that liquid and solid parcles do not enter the pump. Install adequate
lters, separators and/or condensers. In case of doubt contact us.
3. Do not connect the intake line of the pump to a device with over atmospheric
pressure. The exhaust line must be designed so that the pressure will not exceed
1.1 bar absolute (0.1 bar relave).
4. Make sure that the pump exhaust is not closed or restricted.
5. The pump is designed for indoor use only and must be operated below 2000 m sea
level.
6. If you operate the pump without oil or with incorrect rotaon direcon for a long
me, it can destroy the pump and create dangerous situaons.
7. Never use discarded seals. Always use new seals for assembly.

8. The pump must be packaged in such a way that it will not be damaged during
transport and so that no harmful substances can escape from the package.
9. Pumps having no frequency converter (standard single or three-phase motor) and
having an exhaust port smaller than DN40 are not suitable for a connuous
operaon above 100 mbar absolute inlet pressure. Such operang condions
above 100 mbar absolute can damage the pump or its motor and lead to oil leaks.
Typically, these pumps are used on equipment requiring an inlet pressure usually
lower than 30 mbar absolute in connuous operaon.

3. Descripon
The pump is designed for pumping inert gases in the range of rough vacuum, between
atmospheric pressure and ulmate pressure of the pump.
When removing condensable vapours, periodic opening of the gas ballast valve is
required.
3.1 Principle of operaon
These pumps are single-stage, oil-sealed rotary vane vacuum pumps.
The rotor, having three slots in which the vanes are sliding, is eccentrically installed in a
pump cylinder (stator). The vanes separate the interior space into 3 chambers. The
volume of these chambers varies with the rotaon of the rotor.
The gas sucked into the inlet chamber is compressed and then pushed out at the
exhaust valve.
The oil injected in the inlet chamber guarantees the air-ghtness, lubricaon and cooling
of the pump. It is dragged o by the compressed gases and roughly separated by gravity
when entering the oil sump. A ne separaon (≥ 99.9%) is then operated in the exhaust
lter. An internal transfer pushes the collected oil back into the vacuum generator. The
transfer is operated by a oat valve to avoid atmospheric air coming from the oil casing
to the inlet of the pump when no oil is present in the recovery system.
The oil circulaon funcons by dierenal pressures.
The pumps are equipped with a gas ballast valve for pumping condensable vapours.
The an-suck back valve at the inlet ange avoids oil coming back into the inlet line
when the pump is stopped. This is valid for working pressures below 100 mbar and
under the condion that the valve is kept clean and in good condion. The an-suck
back valve is not a safety valve. If oil back owing is to be avoided, it is necessary to
install a separate safety valve on the pump inlet.
This product has been tested to the requirements of CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 61010‑1, third
edion, including Amendment 1 or a later version of the same standard incorporang
the same level of tesng requirements.
3.2 Conforming use
These pumps are intended to be used on clean processes, at low inlet pressure, for
example, for backing turbomolecular pumps (TMP) in Analycal or Research and
Development applicaons like mass spectrometers, electronic microscopes, coang
installaons, etc.
In normal operaon, these pumps are operated below 30 mbar inlet pressure or at
ulmate pressure with open gas ballast (for pumps having a gas ballast). Connuous
duty is possible.

3.3 Non-conforming use
The pump may stop due to overheang of the power electronics or motor in the
abnormal condions that follow:
▪Connuous operaon at high inlet pressure
▪ Restricted, clogged or blocked exhaust lter or exhaust line
▪ Out of tolerance supply voltage
▪ Unsuitable, polluted or too old oil
▪ Too low oil level
▪ Too high ambient temperature
▪ Clogged fan hoods or impeded fresh air circulaon.

4.1 Lubricants
These pumps should be run with vacuum pump oils with a viscosity according to
ISO category VG32. Use only the oil indicated on the nameplate and pump. In case other
oils are used, we reject all responsibility if any problem occurs.

5. Transportaon
5.1 Packaging
These pumps pass a rigorous operang test in our factory and are packaged to avoid
transport damages. Indicaons on the packaging must be observed.
Check the packaging on delivery for transport damages.
The outer package bears a shock indicator, turning red at 50 g. If the shock indicator has
reacted, transportaon damage may have occurred and the freight forwarder must be
advised.
Recycle or dispose of the packing materials according to environmental laws. These
operang instrucons are part of the consignment.
The connecon ports are blanked o by plasc protecve caps or self-adhesives.
Remove these caps or self-adhesives before you turn on the pump.
5.2 Mounng orientaon
See required space in Figure: Dimension drawing.
Pumps that have been lled with oil must be moved only in the upright posion
(horizontally). Otherwise, the oil may escape. The angle of slope must not be more than
10°. Avoid any other orientaons while moving the pump.
Only use the liing lugs which are provided on the pump to li the pump with the
specied liing devices.
Make sure that these have been installed safely. Use suitable liing equipment. Make
sure that all safety regulaons are observed.
Use only liing devices appropriated to the pump weight. Check the nameplate. Do not
use other pump elements than the liing lugs as handles.

6. Installaon
WARNING: EXPLOSION HAZARD
Risk of explosion. The standard pump is not suitable for installaon in explosion
hazard ATEX areas. Contact us, if you are planning such an applicaon.
WARNING: HAZARDOUS VOLTAGE
Risk of electric shock. Before installing the pump you must reliably disconnect it from
the electrical power supply and prevent the pump from running up inadvertently.
Observe all safety regulaons.
It is essenal to observe the following instrucons step by step to ensure a safe start-up.
A Start-up must only be conducted by trained specialists.

6.1 Seng up
The pump must be set up or mounted horizontally on a at surface. Special mounng is
not required.
The pump must be levelled within a tolerance of ±2 degrees.

The following ambient operang environment must be observed:
▪Polluon degree 2
▪ Ambient temperature: 18 °C ‑ 40 °C (54 °F - 104 °F)
▪ Ambient pressure = Atmospheric pressure
▪Relave humidity ≤ 95% without condensaon.
To avoid over-heang of the pump, an undisturbed fresh airow to the pump is
necessary.
Consider changes in ambient temperatures that might occur when air condioning is
turned down, such as nights and weekends.
The pump must be kept clean (no dust deposit).
Normal presence of transient over-voltages due to the power mains. The usual transient
over-voltage level corresponds to category II of the impulse withstand (over-voltage) of
the IEC 60364‑4‑443.
6.2 Connecon to the system
6.2.1 Inlet connecon
The inlet ange can be connected with a vacuum-ght exible hose and/or pipe.
The pipes should cause no stresses on the pump’s anges. If necessary, compensators
must be opened.
Restricon of the pipes must be avoided in order not to decrease the pumping speed of
the pump. The nominal diameter of the pipes has to be at least the same as the
diameter of the pump’s inlet ange.
When removing condensable vapours, a gas ballast valve must be opened periodically to
avoid solvent buildup in the oil.
Addional airow may be needed during ballast, as this increases pump temperature.
The inlet pressure must not be above atmospheric pressure.

6.2.2 Exhaust connecon
No valve or restricng devices must be installed in the exhaust line of the pump. If an
exhaust line is installed, it must at least have the same diameter as the exhaust ange. It
must be installed such that no condensate can enter the pump (siphon, slope). Connect
the pump exhaust if oil mist or process gases are to be avoided in the pump area.
Note:
The maximum exhaust pressure must neither exceed 1.15 bar absolute (0.15 bar relave)
nor fall under atmosphere pressure minus 15 mbar.
Corresponding pressure regulang devices must be installed by the user.

6.3 Electrical connecons
WARNING: DANGEROUS VOLTAGE
Risk of electric shock. Make sure that electrical power supply to the pump is o
before wiring the motor or altering the wiring. IEC and local electrical regulaons
must be followed.
If the pump is to be connected to a standard wall socket, check that building protecon
rated 16 A is installed (fuse or breaker) to protect the power cable. The motor has an
overload protecon element.
The voltage and frequency menoned on the pump nameplate must agree with the
supply voltage.
The control cable must be at least distant by 10 cm to the mains cable and crossings
shall be at 90°.

The On/O switch integrates a motor overload protecon breaker, to be manually reset
aer an overload trip.

6.3.1 Pump control and power supply connecon
The pump control is either manual (On/O switch) or remote (M8 cable) depending on
the interface type. Use the correct power cord according to the power socket present on
the motor terminal box (C14, C20 or Hirschmann).
For pumps with C14 sockets use power cords with C13 connector.
The power socket and cord are disconnecon elements which must remain accessible to
the users.

6.4 Fill the oil
The pump is delivered lled with oil or the oil is provided in a separate can.
To ll in the oil, unscrew the oil ll plug and ll in unl the oil level reaches the "MAX"
marking beside the oil sight glass.
Typically the whole 1 l oil can is used for the pump.
Always check the proper oil level before you operate the pump.
