This system is for use in dentistry with EMS AIR-FLOW units.
This product must only be used by a qualied and trained personnel
(dentist or dental hygienist).
This product should only be used with powders supplied by EMS for a
subgingival application.
This product remove the subgingival biolm during periodic periodontal
treatments. Its long ne nozzle was specically developed for easy access
to the periodontal pocket.

治疗的常规提示
一般信息
适应症：
有牙周病和种植体周围炎的所有患者。
本系统尤其在以下情况下推荐使用：
• 在初步治疗后的深牙周袋（深达10mm）的牙周维护
• 牙周菌膜的清除
• 种植牙的清洁
禁忌症：
深牙周袋的治疗可能导致菌血症。 处于以下风险情形的患者进行治疗
时，请采用适当的限制条件：
• 心内膜炎
• 妊娠期、母乳喂养期
• 接触性传染病
• 免疫缺陷（嗜中性白血球减少症、粒性白细胞缺乏症、糖尿病、血友病）
• 患者正在接受治疗（放射治疗、化疗、抗生素治疗）
GENERAL HINTS FOR TREATMENT
General information
Indication:
All patients suffering from periodontal disease and peri-implantitis.
This system is specially recommended for:
• Periodontal maintenance of deep pocket up to 10 mm following initial
treatment
• Periodontal biolm removal
• Implant cleaning
Contra-indications:
The treatment of deep periodontal pockets can cause bacteraemia.
Please apply appropriate restrictions for the treatment of risk patients:
• Endocarditis
• Pregnancy, breast feeding
• Contagious disease
• Immune deciency (neutropenia, angranulocytosis, diabetes, hemophilia)
• Patients under treatment (radiotherapy, chimiotherapy, antibiotics)

The air jet and powder may cause breathing difculties. Please
apply appropriate restrictions for the treatment of risk patients: Patients
suffering from chronic bronchitis or asthma must not be treated under any
circumstances with this product.
Predisposed persons may be sensitive to the powder. If allergic
reactions are observed, stop using the product and completely remove it.
The nozzle cannot be sterilized.
The single use nozzle must be used for one single patient only.
Never reuse a nozzle because treatment will be ineffective and the risk
of emphysema would increase.
The use of any other powder than the EMS powders for subgingival
application would reduce the nozzle's service life. As a result the treatment
would become ineffective and would increase the risk of emphysema.

PREPARING FOR TREATMENT
Drying the sterilized handpiece
Following the sterilization, blow the interior of the handpiece with compressed air to eliminate
possible humidity.

Nozzle installation and handpiece connection
Before each use, make sure the nozzle is correctly attached: The nozzle must be fully inserted.
Do not use the nozzle in case of doubt that package seal was broken, or that package or
product is damaged.

A powder jet accidentally directed into the eye can cause severe ocular injury. Therefore it is
strongly recommended for all persons to wear eye protection during treatment.
To limit the risk of bacterial or viral infections and inhalation of powder, we recommend to the
dentist and the hygienist to wear a safety protection mask.
The contact lenses or glasses of the patient may get dirty during the treatment. We recommend
to take them off.
The PERIO-FLOW nozzle should never be pointed toward the patient before, during and after
operation.

开始治疗前，应先使用抗菌溶液清洗患者伤口至少30秒钟，这样可以有效
预防治疗过程中发生感染。
在患者嘴唇上抹上凡士林®将防止嘴唇干裂。
棉签可防止唾液流出、分开双唇并保护牙床。
Rinsing the patient mouth before treatment for at least 30 seconds with
an antibacterial solution will greatly prevent bacteria development during
the treatment.
Application of Vaseline®on patient's lips will prevent them becoming dry
and chapped.
The cotton rollers stop the ow of saliva, part the lips and protect the gums.

Power setting air/powder and water ow rate adjustment
Never use the PERIO-FLOW handpiece without water ow; this
could cause lesions in the treatment area.
• Start the treatment with water ow rate adjustment control set at
medium setting. Then adjust the irrigation to obtain a ow as required
for treatment.
• Start the treatment with the power setting air/powder control to the
minimum setting. It can then be adjusted as required during the treatment.

Positioning of the saliva pump and the high speed evacuator suction nozzles
Position the saliva pump suction nozzle for a sublingual suction.
Use the large nozzle of your high-speed evacuator of your dental unit to remove air/powder
mixture during treatment.

The nozzle length enables cleaning pockets over 5 mm deep.
Never treat with PERIO-FLOW the pockets down to the apex. At least 3 mm of bone must be
present to prevent the risk of emphysema.
Always use an evacuator during treatment.
1. Insert the nozzle into the periodontal pocket. The penetration depth depends on the pocket depth.
Do not force the nozzle into the pocket because this could hurt soft tissues.
