7.2 Oil Specifications
Use only Enerpac HF or LX hydraulic oil in the jack.
Enerpac HF hydraulic oil is recommended for operation at
ambient temperatures 10°F [-12°C] and above.
At ambient temperatures below 10°F [-12°C], Enerpac LX
hydraulic oil may be used if desired. Enerpac LX will provide
lower pumping eort in cold climates.
CAUTION Never use brake fluid or other non-hydraulic
fluids in the jack. The jack may not function properly when
using these fluids. Erratic operation may result. Minor or
moderate personal injury and/or damage to jack could occur.
Enerpac hydraulic oil is available from your Enerpac
distributor. Failure to use Enerpac hydraulic oil may result in
reduced performance and will void the Enerpac product warranty.
7.3 Changing the Hydraulic Oil
The hydraulic oil should be changed once a year or whenever it
is suspected that contaminants have entered the jack hydraulic
system.
1. Be sure the jack is fully retracted.
2. Lay the jack on its side. Place a pan or other collection
receptacle under the jack to catch the drained oil.
CAUTION Catch all drained oil in a pan or other suitable
receptacle. Dispose of used oil in accordance with all
applicable laws and regulations.
3. Remove the oil fill plug. See Fig. 4 for location.
4. Allow the oil to drain from the reservoir oil fill hole. During
draining take precautions to ensure that no dirt or other
contaminants enter the fill hole.
5. After all used oil has drained, look through the oil fill hole
and inspect the reservoir for signs of contamination. If the
drained oil appears dirty or feels gritty, or if other signs of
contamination are present, flush the reservoir with a clean
flushing solvent before refilling.
When using solvent, completely follow
solvent manufacturer's directions and safety precautions.
5. Place the jack on level ground in the vertical position. Be
certain that the jack is fully retracted.
CAUTION Be certain that the jack is fully retracted
before adding any oil to the reservoir. If oil is added while the
jack is extended, the reservoir could become overfilled and
burst when the jack is retracted. Minor or moderate personal
injury and/or damage to jack could occur.
6. Refill the reservoir with Enerpac hydraulic oil. Refer to Table
1 for Enerpac oil specifications and usable oil capacities.
See Section 7.2 for additional information. Continue filling
until the oil level is up to the top of the reservoir and even
with the oil fill hole.
7. Reinstall and tighten the oil fill plug.
8. Test jack operation as described in steps a through c:
a. Be sure that the pressure release valve is closed.
b. With NO load on the jack, and without using the lever bar,
operate the handle-socket and fully extend the jack.
c. Verify that the jack fully extends, and that resistance is
felt when the jack reaches the top of its stroke. If the oil
level is correct, the handle-socket will become impossible to
operate by hand when the jack is fully extended.
9. Open the pressure release valve to retract the jack. Be sure
that the jack is fully retracted.
10. Remove the oil fill plug. Recheck the oil level through the oil
fill hole. If oil level has dropped, add oil through the fill hole
as required.
11. Reinstall and tighten the oil fill plug.
7.4 Inspection and Lubrication
Before using the jack:
• Inspect the jack for oil leaks. Repair any oil leaks before placing
the jack into service.
• Check the jack mechanical components. Tighten any loose
components and replace any bent or damaged components
before returning the jack to service.
• Check the jack base and housing for cracks. If any cracks are
found, remove the jack from service immediately. Have an
Enerpac Authorized Service Center inspect and repair the jack
before it is placed back into service.
Every 90 days or when needed:
• Lubricate the three pump linkage pins with a good grade of
grease or lubricating oil (SAE 40 weight or greater).
8.0 TROUBLESHOOTING
The information in the Troubleshooting Guide (refer to Table 3) is
intended as an aid to help diagnose and correct various possible
problems that may occur.
For repair service, contact your local Enerpac Authorized Service
Center.
WARNING
Failure to observe and comply with the following precautions
could result in death or serious personal injury. Property
damage could also occur.
• Never loosen or remove jack components while jack hydraulic
system is pressurized. Escaping oil under pressure can
penetrate the skin, causing serious personal injury. Load will
drop suddenly when pressure is relieved.
• Keep hands, fingers and other body parts clear of pinch
points and moving parts when observing operation during
troubleshooting.
• Remove load from jack before making any repairs or
adjustments.
• Allow only trained and qualified hydraulic technicians to
troubleshoot, repair and service the jack. It is recommended
that the jack be serviced and repaired by an Enerpac
Authorized Service Center.
