Overview
This user guide provides information on to use the QuickTouch Preset controller. There are four types
of users that can log in to the QuickTouch Preset controller. Each user has their own purpose and the
user interface responds based on who logs in. These users are as follows:

•
Panel Users
•
Power Users
•
Administrators
The following sections detail how each type of user experience is different and what typical actions
are for each user.
Warnings and Notifications
The operation of ETC Rigging™ equipment requires responsible use and specific training. Only
authorized, trained personnel should operate this rigging system. Unauthorized use, alteration, or use
for situations other than those for which it was designed may cause damage to the equipment, other
property damage, or injury to persons, potentially of a severe nature. All safety precautions must be
observed and adhered to at all times.
Read and obey the following warning statements to ensure safe and consistent use of your ETC
Rigging system.
WARNING: Only properly trained and authorized persons shall operate ETC Rigging
systems. Operation by untrained persons may result in damage to the system, other
property damage, serious injury, or death.
WARNING: When using the ETC Rigging system, the user must have an
unobstructed view of the entire lineset and its attached load. If the user’s view is
obstructed, a second person (spotter) MUST be used to assist the operator at all times.
The spotter must have an unobstructed view of all moving components and be able to
maintain clear communication with the operator at all times.
If a problem arises while a hoist is moving (such as a mechanical issue or interference
from other objects) stop movement immediately by releasing all dead-man and " Go"
buttons or by using the Emergency Stop button. If a spotter sees a problem while a
hoist is moving, the spotter must signal the user to stop movement immediately.
WARNING: Devices under control of the ETC Rigging system must only be used to
move a maximum load equal to or less than its rated capacity. Overloading the device
may result in damage to the system, other property damage, serious injury, or death.

WARNING: ETC Rigging systems must not be operated by a user until installation
and configuration have been completed by an ETC trained and approved technician.
Only ETC trained and approved technicians are authorized to operate equipment
during the installation and configuration process.
WARNING: Disconnect power before servicing this equipment. Electric shock may
result from servicing while power is still connected.
WARNING: The Working Load Limit (WLL) of any device is the maximum load
capacity that a user may apply to that device or system.
All ETC Rigging hoists have a Working Load Limit. This is identified on the product label
on the back of the hoist and on the batten label. This limit is not the same for all hoists;
be sure to check the Working Load Limit for all hoists in your system. Prodigy Working
Load Limits include a design-safety factor.
If you cannot find a Working Load Limit for any device under the control of the ETC
Rigging system, do not operate and contact your ETC Rigging installer.
NEVER exceed the Working Load Limit for any hoist.
WARNING: Do not exceed point load, Uniform Distributed Load (UDL), or Working
Load Limit (WLL) for any line set. See label on batten for POINT, UDL, and WLL. Point,
distributed, and working load limits may be different for each device.
Do not suspend persons from the device or any of its components. Do not ride on the
batten.
Stop use of the system immediately if unusual noises are heard or unusual smells are
detected during operation. Contact a qualified ETC Rigging inspector before resuming
use.
In the event of an Emergency Stop (E-stop) cease use of the system, identify who
engaged the E-stop and why, and resolve the issue before restarting the system.
Never lock or jam the operating buttons in the depressed (“ on” ) position. These hold-
down buttons must be operated by a competent person at all times.
Use a remote unit when the load is obscured from this operator position or have
someone observe the load while it is moving. Never leave the controller when a hoist is
in motion.
Log out or remove the enable key of this rigging controller when a competent or
qualified person is not present.
Prior to servicing the system, disconnect and lock out/tag out power (according to
NFPA Standard 70E) to any relevant components.
Always inspect and test the ETC Rigging system before each use.
Have certified ETC Rigging inspector perform regular inspection and maintenance as
dictated by the system installer, ETC's specifications, and warranty agreements.
The system must be inspected annually by a qualified ETC Rigging inspector.

Panel Preset Operators
When logged in, the Panel Preset Operator has access to a Presets screen from which they can run
presets. This screen consists of pre-configured preset buttons.
In this example, there are three presets available: Show Electrics, Show Masking, All Out. To run a
preset, follow these steps:
1. Press the preset you want to open the preset dialog. The preset status of Loaded appears in the
upper right corner.
2. This dialog also displays the number of motors that are required to move and the duration of the
move.
3. Press and hold the Go button to run the preset. The status changes to Running.
4. If you release the Go button during the preset move, the status changes to Paused and the timer
and progress bar stop. You can resume the preset whenever you want by pressing and holding
the Go button again.
5. Once the preset move is done the status changes to Finished and you can release the Go
button.

Panel Users
Panel Users have a similar role to the Panel Preset Operators, but with one added layer of access.
Along with the Presets screen used by Panel Preset Operators, Panel Users also have access to the
Manual screen. This screen allows users to manually move one motor at a time.
To move a motor, follow these steps:
1. Select a channel by pressing on it. In the image above, channel 1 is already selected.
2. After selecting a channel you must designate the direction in which movement is desired. To do
this, press either the blue button with the up arrow or the green button with the down arrow.
3. After selecting the direction of movement, choose the speed of movement by setting the motion
slider to the desired location.
4. To move the motor in the direction and at the speed that you have selected, press and hold the
Go button.
5. Release the Go button when the motor has reached the desired location.

Power Users
A Power User can manually move multiple motors and can create and manage presets. This type of
user is meant to be called on when certain movement is needed and when presets need to be created
or managed in another way.
The Power User has a Manual and a Preset screen, but they are different than those that appear for
the other types of users.
Manual
The Manual screen contains rows of channels on the top of the screen and configuration and
movement options on the bottom of the screen.
Selecting channels
Selecting channels works the same way as the Foundation controller. You can select individual
channels or use the + button to select multiple channels. Click the Release button once to deselect
and twice to release all selected channels.
Moving channels manually
To move a channel manually, perform the following steps:
1. Select the channel or channels that you want to move.
2. Adjust the speed slider to the speed that you want. The slider is directly to the left of the blue
and green Up and Down buttons. If you move the slider all the way up the motor will move at its
maximum speed.
3. Select the blue Up button or green Down button depending on which way you want to move the
hoist.
4. Press and hold the Go button to move the hoist in the direction and at the speed that you've
selected.
5. Release the Go button when the hoist reaches the intended destination.

Performing target moves
To perform a target move follow these steps:
1. Select one or more channels that you want to move to a specific target and then press the
editable Target field (to the left of the trims) in the properties area.
2. In the Edit Target Position dialog that appears, enter the target destination and press Ok.
3. Press and hold the Go button to move to the target destination.
Setting channel trims
You can set trims for you channels from the trim fields (Low Trim, Trim 1, Trim 2, High Trim) or from
the Trims tab in the Advanced dialog. When you select a trim from either workspace, the Edit trim
dialog appears and lets you set or edit a trim. You can also designate the Low and High trims as limits
if you want.
Moving channels using trims
To move a channel using trims, perform the following steps:
1. Select the channel you want to move.
2. Click one of the trim buttons from the properties area to select the trim as your destination.
Note that the trim value is now displayed in the Target field.
3. Press and hold the Go button to move to the trim.
Setting attached load position
Setting your attached load position allows you to have the position readout indicate the bottom of the
attached load (i.e. bottom of the scenery) as opposed to the actual batten position. This allows you to
move a motor to 0'0" so that the scenery touches the stage and the batten remains at the specifed
elevation above the stage.
Perform the following steps to set an attached load:
1. Manually move the motor so that your attached load (i.e. scenery) rests at the lowest desired
position .
2. With the channel still selected, press the Load Attached button to open the Scenery Bottom
Position dialog.
3. Enter the position of the bottom of your load.
•
If the load is physically touching the stage, enter 0'0"
•
If the load is floating, enter the measured distance between the stage and the bottom of the
load
4. Click Ok.
Any channel that has a load attached configured displays a horizontal bar below the channel position.
For example, the following image shows the attached load position is set to 40' 0" for channel 1.

Advanced Configuration
You can open the Advanced dialog for any channel, from which the following tabs are available, with
the same functionality as the Foundation controller.
•
Trims: Allows you to set trims for the motor
•
Load: Provides load information for your motor
•
Speed: Provides speed information for your motor
•
Status: Provides system status and history
•
Statistic: Provides statistical information
•
Diagnostic: Provides diagnostic information
Load Profiling
It is highly recommended that you enable load profiling for your motors. This feature allows you to
record a normal profile of what the load should be at any point in the full range of travel, in both
directions. Load profiling then monitors the load during movement and stops movement when
unexpected load conditions occur.
To record these load profiles and subsequently enable load profiling:
1. Select a channel and press the Advanced button.
2. Select the Load tab and press the Learn button.
•
For standard loads (i.e. scenery or non-electric loads), press the Save button.
•
For loads that change during travel, press the Record button.

Record the up and down profiles for the load
-
Save the profiles when you are satisfied
-
Close the Learn Load dialog
3. From the Load tab, you can now select the Enable Profiling button (outlined in gold when
selected).
4. You can also change the sensitivity setting per motor, with Maximum having the lowest
tolerance for deviance from the load profile and Low having the greatest tolerance.
Preset
The Presets screen contains the same rows of channels on the top of the screen and configuration
options for presets on the bottom of the screen.

Create a Preset
Perform the following steps to create a preset:
1. Press "New". The New Preset dialog box opens. The first available preset number will be
automatically filled for you (starting with 1).
2. If a different preset number is desired, select the number field to change the number. The "Edit
Preset Number" dialog box will open and a numeric keypad allows you to enter a new number.
3. If you wish to edit the name of the preset, select the preset name field. The onscreen keyboard
will open and you may edit the name of the preset and press Ok.
4. Press "Create". The new preset will be created and will appear in the preset display in the
properties area.
Now that you've created the preset you can add content to it.
Add Preset Content
Once a preset has been created, you can begin to add content to it in the Presets Screen.
Note: It is recommended that you use trims when building presets, rather than specific
positions. Doing so will offer a much faster way to update presets. Trims represent a universal
way to update a motor position throughout all references. If a desired position changes (for
example, due to soft goods stretching), trim-based presets can be updated by altering a
single referenced trim position. Whereas with specified positions, all presets must be updated
manually.
To add preset content:
1. Make sure the desired preset is selected in the preset display. A selected preset is outlined in
gold.
2. Select a channel that you want to be in the preset. A position dialog box will open.
3. Enter the desired preset position for the motor for this preset.

You can reference a trim position by selecting from the four available trims or by pressing
"Trims" to see other trims recorded for the selected channel.
•
You can press "Current" to store the current position of the channel.
•
You can enter a specified position by selecting the position field. The "Edit Preset Position"
keypad opens. Enter a position on the numeric keypad and press "Ok".
4. Once the desired position appears in the position field, press "Ok" to close the motor position
dialog. The selected position will appear in the channel icon and the channel will remain
selected, indicating that it is currently stored as part of the preset.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for any other channels you want to be included in the preset.
Note: Preset content is stored automatically. You do not need to save a preset once it has
been created, nor after content has been updated.

Create Simple Presets
Simple presets are those that can be run by the Panel Users and Panel Preset Operators. If you want a
preset to be available from the Presets screens for those users, the preset must be designated as a
Simple preset by the Power User. You can make a preset a Simple preset by performing the following
steps:
1. Select the preset that you want to make a Simple preset.
2. Press the Options button to open the Preset Options dialog.
3. Select the Simple Preset check box and then press Ok.
Notice that your preset now has an"S" in the upper right corner of the preset button, designating it as
a Simple preset.
Edit a Preset
To edit a preset, select the preset you want to edit and perform the following actions:
•
Add a channel: Select the channel to add and set the desired preset motor position.
•
Remove a channel: Select the channel to open the position dialog and then press Remove.
•
Edit motor position: Select the channel to open the position dialog and then change the desired
motor position.

Administrators
As an Administrator, the same Manual and Presets screens that the power user has access to appear,
but are read only. The administrator actions are limited to configuring display settings.
To configure the display settings, click the menu button in the bottom left corner and select Settings
>Display.
•
Ambient Light: Set the left slider to backlight intensity for the lowest amount of ambient light
and the right slider to backlight intensity for the highest amount of ambient light.
•
Backlight Dim: Set the slider for backlight intensity when there is a screen timeout.
•
Screen Timeout: Set the amount of inactivity time before the screen automatically dims.
•
Controller Timeout: Set the amount of inactivity time before the controller logs the current user
out.
