Maintenance
6.1 General
The Ferno Compact 1-S and Compact 2 Carrying Chair require
scheduled maintenance to keep them working safely. Set up and
follow a maintenance schedule.
When setting up your maintenance schedule, consider how the
Chair will be used.
Will the Chair be exposed to extreme temperatures, or to salt,
sand, mud, dust, etc.?
Will the Chair be heavily used?
Follow the maintenance schedule below as a minimum.
INSPECTION CHECKLIST
● Are all components present?
● Is the Chair free of excessive wear?
● Are all screws, nuts, bolts, rivets, and roll pins
securely in place?
● Do all moving parts operate smoothly and
properly?
● Does the Chair lock properly into position?
● Are the safety rings present and intact?
● Does the Chair roll smoothly?
● Do the wheels have adequate tread?
● Are the restraints properly installed?
● Is restraint in good condition with no cuts or
frayed edges?
● Are restraint buckles free of visible damage
and do they operate properly?
6 CARE OF THE COMPACT CHAIR
WARNING
Improper maintenance can cause injury and
unpredictable operation. Maintain the
Chair only as described in this manual.
6.2 Maintenance Schedule
When using a maintenance product, follow the manufacturer’s
directions and read the manufacturer’s material safety data sheet.
Contact Ferno (UK) Ltd to order Ferno cleaners and disinfectants.
Keep Service and Maintenance records.
Use the convenient form at the back of this manual.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Every three months lubricate the hinge pins with light oil paying
particular attention to the cross section pins.
6.3 Cleaning the Chair
Remove the restraints and place them in a mesh laundry bag.
Machine wash them in cold water using the delicate cycle and a
mild laundry detergent. Allow them to air dry.
Clean all other surfaces of the Chair with warm water and a mild
detergent. (Use a brush if necessary).
Rinse it with warm water. Towel dry the Chair or allow it to air dry.
Wash the Chair by using a sponge and mild detergent soap mixed
in warm water. For particularly grimy cases, especially if the chair
has been in storage for a long period, it may be necessary to rst
wash the Chair with a solvent soaked cloth prior to using soap
and water.
Once cleaned, dry the Chair with a soft towel paying particular
attention to swivel and sliding joints.
NOTE
Do not use high pressure water or steam to clean the Chair,
these methods remove lubricants.
6.4 Disinfecting the Chair
Wipe all surfaces of the Chair and restraints with disinfectant (see
Page 3, Blood borne Disease Notice).
Follow the manufacturer’s directions. As you wipe down the
Chair, check it for damage and wear.
WARNING
High concentrations of bleach, phenols and iodine
can cause damage.

Normal levels of disinfecting uids are acceptable.
