• Signal words identify the level of injuries that can potentially occur.
• The signal words used in this manual and found on labels, DANGER, WARNING and CAUTION, are assigned
according to the level of potential risk.
• Warning labels are located at or near the part of the system that poses the indicated danger. Ignoring a warning may
cause death or serious injury, or system malfunction. Be sure to follow the indications in the manuals and on the warning
labels.
• The warnings include a signal word, the type and extent of the danger, and information on avoiding danger.

!General precautions
• Do not modify, remove or install any non-specified parts without our permission. Doing so may cause severe
personal injury or damage this product. It also voids any quality guarantee.
• Do not remove safety devices or modify it so that it cannot function. Doing either may put the users at risk or
cause a malfunction.
• Immediately stop the system if it smokes or is overheating during operation. Disconnect the power supply
and contact your place of purchase.

• Do not remove covers while the power cable of this machine is connected. Doing so presents a risk of
electrical shock.
An electrical shock may cause severe personal injury or death, and/or damage to this machine.
• Do not remove covers unless directed by us or specified in the manual.

!Precautions for operating heating section
• Dryer heaters and motors emit a substantial amount of heat.
If you directly touch them during operation or right after operation, you may get burnt.
When replacement of parts or maintenance is performed, make sure that the temperature is fully lowered.
If you have got burnt, cool the burn with running water and contact a physician as soon as possible.

!Precautions in operating this product
• Do not suddenly change the temperature of the room in which this product is installed.
Rapid changes in room temperature may cause condensation in the system and adversely affect its performance.
• Provide sufficient ventilation. Do not use this product in a closed location.
• Do not place any vase or cup containing liquid on this product. Liquid can damage this product. In addition, do not sit
on, place heavy objects on or push this product. Applying load on this product causes malfunction or failure.
• This product has some vents. These vents are used for air intake/outlet. Do not place anything in front of the vents or
block them in any way.
• Subjecting the system to shock or vibrations may cause damage. To prevent damage to this product, avoid subjecting it
to shock or vibration.
• Connecting devices or using software not recommended by us may result in system malfunctions, and are not covered
under warranty.

• Open this to load
sheet paper.

If an optional long length print guide is attached, do

• Attach this when making prints whose paper width is 203 mm or
254 mm and the advance length is over 457 mm. (option)

Use the specified paper.
Using paper other than that specified may adversely affect finished prints and cause problems.
• For details about the specified paper, see ☞8.1 Consumable parts and accessories.
2.2.1 Handling paper
• Do not bend paper or scratch the printing surface.
• Do not touch the printing surface of paper.
Moisture or oil on your hands affects the quality of prints.
• When handling paper, hold the edge of paper. We recommend that you put on clean cotton gloves.
• Keep the cardboard box and bags in which paper was contained, because they will be used for storing paper.
• Once the paper container is opened, we recommend the paper be used within three months. Using it three months after
first opening may adversely affect print quality.
• Print quality may be low if the last 1 m of paper on the roll is used. Therefore, 100 m rolls of paper are actually 101 m
long.
For details about the precautions for handling the specified sheet paper, see the instruction supplied with the paper.
Do not use sheet paper specified below. Doing so may cause a paper jam.

If paper is curled, flatten it before use. Curled paper may touch the printhead and become dirty.

!Storing roll paper
Store roll paper in a place where there is no direct sunlight, with the following condition.
The storage environment for unopened packs of roll paper and that for opened packs of roll paper are different.
Unopened roll paper
Store it in a place where the relative humidity is from 20%to 80%and the room temperature is from 15°C to 25°C.
Opened roll paper
• Once the paper container is opened, we recommend the paper be used within three months. Using it three months after
first opening may adversely affect print quality.
• Wind unused roll paper tightly, and put it in the bag that originally contained the paper. Then store it in the cardboard
box or a paper case (optional).
If the roll paper is loaded in the printer for a certain period of time (generally two or more days), the roll paper quality
may deteriorate.
