Theacquisitionmoduleisintendedtoacquire,digitize,andtransmitanalogECG
signalstoahostunit.Thecircuitryisdesignedtoprotectthehostunitagainstthe
effectsofcardiacdebrillatordischargetoensuredevicerecovery.
Theacquisitionmoduleisintendedtobeusedunderthedirectsupervisionofa
licensedhealthcarepractitioner.
GeneralDescription
TheacquisitionmoduleperformshighresolutionECGdataacquisitionforusewith
hostequipment(restingECGanalysissystemsandexercisesystems).Theacquisition
modulehasthefollowingfeatures:

•patientisolation
•functionkeycontrolofhostequipmentfunctions
Theacquisitionmoduleprovidespatientelectricalisolationforthehostequipment.
TheminuteECGsignalsfromthepatient’sskinarereceivedbytheelectrodesand
senttotheacquisitionmodulevialeadwires.Theacquisitionmodulethenamplies,
digitizes,andperformsprocessingonthesignals.

•Checktheleadwiresandleadwireadaptersforwearandlooseconnections.
Replacethesepartsattherstsignofwear.
•Checkthepinsthattheleadwirespluginto.Theyshouldnotbebentorloose.
ContactGEHealthcareCustomerSupportforanyrepairsneeded.
•Checktheacquisitionmoduleplasticcaseforanydamage.ContactGEHealthcare

Cleaning
Theexteriorandleadwiresoftheacquisitionmoduleshouldbecleaneddaily.
CleaningandDisinfectingAcquisitionModules
Propercleaninganddisinfectingprolongsthelifeofacquisitiondevices.Failuretouse
thepropercleaningsolutionsortofollowproperprocedurescanresultinthefollowing:
•Appearanceofwaveformswhennotconnectedtoapatient,resultinginfalse
alarmsinsteadofleadfailurealarms
•Brittleandcrackeddevicecase
•Melting,dulling,ordistortionofthecase
•Totaldevicefailure,requiringreplacement

Usethefollowingproceduretocleananddisinfectthecablesandleadwires.
1.Removecables,leadwires,andbatteriesfromthedevicebeforecleaning.
Makesuretormlyclosethebatterydoorafterremovingthebatteries.
2.Toclean,wipewithalightlymoistenedcloth.
Useamildsoapandwatersolutiontomoistenthecloth.
DoNOTuseanyofthefollowingcleaningproducts,orproductsthatcontainthe
sameactiveingredientsandsolutions,whichareknowntocausetheproblems
previouslylisted:
•Sani-Cloth®Wipes
•Ascepti®Wipes
•HBQuat®
•Clorox®Wipes(theydonotcontainbleach)
•Over-the-counterdetergents(suchasFantastic®,Tilex®,andsoon)

3.Todisinfect,wipewithasoft,lint-freeclothmoistenedwithanappropriate
disinfectant.
Usethefollowingsolutions,asrecommendedintheAPICGuidelinesforSelection
andUseofDisinfectants(1996):
•Sodiumhypochlorite(5.2%householdbleach)minimum1:500dilution
(minimum100ppmfreechlorine)andmaximum1:10dilution.
•Anysodiumhypochloritewipeproductthatmeetsthepreviousguidelines
canbeused.
4.Allowthecleaningsolution/disinfectanttoremainonthedeviceforaminimum
ofoneminute,orperhospitalguidelines.
5.Wipeoffthecleaningsolution/disinfectantwithaclean,moistenedcloth.
6.Drythoroughlywithadry,lint-freeclothandletairdryforaminimumof30
minutesbeforeuse.
DONOTuseexcessivedryingtechniques,suchasoven,forcedheat,orsun
drying.
NOTE:
Dryingtimesmayvarybasedontheenvironmentalconditions.
Cautions
•Followthecleaninginstructionsexactly.
•Wringexcessdisinfectantfromwipebeforeusing.
•Neverimmersethedevice,cables,orleadwiresinanyliquid,asthismaycorrode
metalcontactsandaffectsignalquality.
•Donotallowuidtopoolaroundconnectionpins.Ifthishappens,blotdrywitha
soft,lint-freecloth.
•Neveruseconductivesolutionsorsolutionsthatcontainchlorides,wax,orwax
compoundstocleanthedevice,cables,orleadwires.
•NeverusesolutionsorproductsthatcontainanytypeofAmmoniumChloridesuch
as,butnotlimitedto:
•DimethylBenzylAmmoniumChloride
•QuaternaryAmmoniumChloridesolutions
•Abrasivecleanersorsolventsofanykind
•Acetone
•Ketone
•Betadine
•Alcohol-basedcleaningagents
•Sodiumsalts
•Neverautoclaveorsteamcleanthedevice,cables,orleadwires.
•Donotuseuntilthoroughlydry.

Storage
Usethefollowingguidelineswhenstoringacquisitionmodules:
•Alwaysremovethebatterieswhenthedeviceisnotinuse,evenforshortperiods
oftime.
•Storeinadry,well-ventilatedarea.
•Hangthedevice,usingaholderifavailable.
•Ifleadwiresareattached,theyshouldhangstraight.
•Donotcoilleadwiresorcablesaroundthedevice.
BatteryCompartmentCleaning
NOTE:
Thisprocedureappliesonlyforfrequencyhoppingtelemetrytransceivers.It
shouldnotbeusedforotherdevices.
Undernormaloperation,thebatterycompartmentshouldnotrequirecleaning.Ifthe
batterycompartmentshouldrequirecleaning,usethefollowinginstructions.
CAUTION:
DEVICEMALFUNCTION—Cleaningthebatterycompartmentinamannerother
thanthatdescribedinthefollowingproceduremaycausetheunittomalfunction
andvoidthewarranty.
Thebatterycompartmentisnotwaterproof.Makecertainuidsdonotenterthe
electronicsthroughtheairholesinthebatterycompartmentoor.
1.Removethebatteryfromthebatterycompartment.
2.Cleanthedevicewithagauzepadorclothlightlymoistenedwithoneofthe
followingagents:
•Water
•Soap
3.Useaclothlightlymoistenedwithdistilledwatertorinseawaythecleaning
solution.Makecertainthatmoisturedoesnotentertheelectronicsareabelow
thebatterycompartmentoor.
4.Drythoroughlywithalint-freeclothandallowthebatterycompartmenttoair
drycompletelypriortoclosingthecompartmentdoor.
Built-InDiagnosticTests
Thehostequipmentgenerallycontainsbuilt-indiagnosticteststoverifytheoperation
oftheelectrocardiograph.
Thesebuilt-indiagnostictestsverifytheoperationoftheacquisitionmodule,aswell.
Forexample,thereisatestthatrecordsrawECGdataonthethermalpaper.Thistest
checksfornoiseandgainintheacquisitionmodule.Anothertestisaseriallinktest
thatdeterminesifthemicroprocessorinthehostequipmentiscommunicatingwith
theacquisitionmodule.
