Suggestions to improve the quality of the installation
All the suggestions provided here are derived by feedbacks from our installers that already
encountered on field issues similar to the issues you could encounter within your installation. To
respect these suggestions could simplify the configuration and make the camera able to provide
optimal results.
There are three possible points of installations, A, B and C (shown in fig. 1).
▪The best results will be obtained installing the camera in position A. The installation of the camera
in the position B should be considered as an additional improvement of the global results and not
as an alternative to the installation in position A. This depends from the low quality of the CODE
ID printed on the top of the containers. In fact, these codes could be often damaged, dirty, partially
missed, due to the mechanical abrasion during the loading or unloading operations and to the sea
salt that could be settled on the CODE ID, during the trip. The installation type C is very critical,
and we are discouraging its adoption.
▪Remember: ONE camera can operate on ONE lane only, with a lane width of maximum 3,5
meters (channelized gate).
▪Avoid, when possible, to place the camera too angled. It can cause problems of auto-hidden of
one or more digits of the CODE ID, due to the vertical sliding-lock of the door of the container. The
ideal position of installation of the camera is over the top of the container, at 5.50 meters of height,
positioning the camera horizontally aligned with the position of the CODE ID.
▪Although the OCR algorithm is designed to compensate the partial shadows over the CODE ID, if
possible, let install the camera in a position that can permit to see the code both fully illuminated
by sun or fully shadowed by the roof of the structure.
▪Make the installation stable. That means it’s necessary to reduce as much as possible the
vibrations and the oscillations that could be caused by inadequate fastening, especially with windy
weather. Select a pole with proper diameter.
▪Adjust the sunshield to protect the lens from direct sunlight, when the sun is in a frontal position.
▪Avoid installing the camera in a position where it could be possible that some obstacles could
interfere within the field of view. For example, trees, that during the spring could extend their
leaves or branches.
▪When you are adjusting the focus of the lens, take care to have the target (the rear of the
container) at the longest distance possible (so, the rear of a container of 22 feet length, mounted
ahead, near the cabin of the truck, stopped to the bar).
