Preamble
Complete set for reliable day and night license plate recognition, including camera, lens, weatherproof
housing, IR-Pass filter and IR headlights. The entire system was specially designed and developed
for use in conjunction with the Geutebrück ANPR / LPR analysis software.
G-Cam/ANPR-49xxx is equipped with a maintenance-free LED infrared illuminator that uses high-
power LEDs at 850 nm to provide optimal illumination of the scene.
▪Optimal camera/lens combination for best recognition results either day or night.
▪Minimized distortions from surrounding lights or from vehicle headlights.
▪Sharp pictures also with fast moving vehicles due to short exposure times.

Installation of the System Components
Erecting the camera housing
Proper erection of the system components is of great importance for correct operation and reliability
of the system. In particular, the erection of the camera housing and the IR lighting strongly
affect the recognition rate.

As can be seen from these figures, the horizontal angle of the camera should not be more than 20°
from the vehicle's axis and the vertical angle should not be more than 30°.
The greater the angle, the more the characters will be distorted. This distortion makes recognition
more difficult, and therefore significantly impairs the recognition rate. The human eye can still read a
character even when observing from large angles, since the brain can interpret what it sees and can
read correctly with the aid of this additional information.
A camera-based character recognition system does not have this much intelligence. The more the
line widths and sizes of the individual letters and numbers differ from those that would be seen when
pictured from an angle of 0°, the more difficult it is for the system to read them correctly.
For this reason, you should always try to achieve the smallest possible horizontal and vertical angles
when choosing the location of the camera.
It is possible to calculate the acceptable distance between the camera and the number plate from the
erection conditions given by the place of use, and from the maximum permitted angle.
The system already makes the maximum possible use of the retroreflective properties of number
plates, because camera and illumination are installed right next to each other. Additionally, the
daylight blocking filter minimizes glare by sun and headlights. The powerful illumination guarantees
bright illumination even over longer distances.

The Capture Zone
The European number plate with its dimensions 520x115mm should have a width between 100 and
200 pixels, optimum is about 150 pixels. Individual characters should be detected with 25 - 30 vertical
picture elements. The sketch width of a number plate is detected with 3 - 4 picture elements. Gaps in
between the characters are scanned with more than 2 picture elements.
The varifocal lens of the camera allows longer distances. Technically even a distance of 50 m
between camera and license plate would be possible. At such distances, however, the probability that
foreign objects in the field of view will interfere with recognition increases significantly. We
recommend a maximum distance of 15 meters between lens and license plate.
If the distance between the camera and the license plate is long, problems related to weather
conditions also occur.
The optimum width of the detection zone is 4,5 meters.

Lens Configuration
The camera sensor format and lens focal length determine the horizontal and vertical view angles.
Use the zoom lever to select the best part of the image.
Adjust the focus of the lens by turning the focus control. Define an area in the image section where
the focus area should be.

Vehicle Speed Considerations
The build in camera provides a maximum capture rate of 30fps.
The ANPR algorithm can be configured to use a frame rate between 3 and 30 frames per second. As
vehicle speed increases, the number of possible images within the capture zone is reduced and
should be considered when choosing the frame rate.
Also, the movement during the field exposure is increased which can lead to image smear. The
system provides enough light to use shutter speeds shorter than 1/1000 sec to avoid this effect.
The system is designed to work with reflective plates. So usually you see only the plate and some
other reflecting parts in the image. This is no camera fault but intention. If there are only a few
ambient lights you need to adjust settings with a number plate in the field of view.

If necessary, use an additional overview camera.
After setting up the system, the settings must be made in daylight, bright sunlight, night etc. should be
checked regularly.

Ensure all tests are undertaken by a qualified, trained engineer.

Weather Proof Housing
Instructions for mounting
Before approaching the connecting devices, all the feed circuits must be disconnected.
Make sure that at the beginning of the equipment there is a suitable sectioning device having
a minimum distance of the contacts of 3 mm.
▪Fix the bracket in the required
position (1) Fig.1 by means of
screws of diam. 8 mm with special
small blocks.
▪Unscrew the screws of the left side
(2) Fig. 2 and open the housing.
The top cover has a rotation of
180°.
▪Unscrew the 4-fastening screw of
internal slide and remove it by
movement on rear direction (fig.3).
▪Insert the Ethernet cable through
the cable gland M25
▪Connect the Ethernet cable to the
splitter. Fig.3
▪Close the housing by following the
opening opposite procedure and
fasten the 2 screws on the left side
of housing.t
▪Then clamp appropriately the
cable-gland.

IR-Pass Filter
The IR pass filter only allows infrared light with wavelengths of more than 720nm to pass through.
The visible light and backlight through the vehicle headlights are blocked. This results in an optimal
illumination to recognize the license plates day and night.
Please do not use any aggressive cleaning agents for cleaning. A soap solution with
neutral soap is sufficient.

IR LED Illuminator
Warnings
Pay attention to the device surface: it could be hot, and its contact could cause damages to
people and things.
Before maintenance procedures, switch off the illuminator and wait until it has cooled down.
All installation/maintenance procedures must be performed only by qualified staff.
The manufacturer declines any responsibility for any damage to people and things caused by
an improper use of the device.
Electrical/electronic device that should be disposed in waste collection centers or
recycling areas, keep it separated from unsorted municipal waste.

On/off threshold adjustment
It is not intended for the installer or user to adjust the on/off threshold. The factory setting is "ON"
and the illuminator lights up continuously; day and night.
The IR pass filter only lets IR light through. Therefore, the illuminator for license plate
recognition must always be set to ON!
Light intensity adjustment
The light intensity of the IR illuminator is preset on the maximum value. In order to adjust it and
eventually set a lower light intensity simply remove the protective cap (5) and turn the
potentiometer clockwise.
Once the procedures have been completed, tighten the cap properly!
