Safety instructions
1 Safety instructions
1.1 Intended use
The Slimdrive EMD or EMD-F door drive is designed for the automatic opening and closing of single-action swing
doors.
The Slimdrive EMD or EMD-F is designed solely for use
àin dry rooms
àin entrances and interior areas of pedestrian trac, in commercial plants and public areas
àin private areas.
The Slimdrive EMD
àmay be used on emergency exits.
àmust not be used on re and smoke control doors.
àmust not be used for potentially explosive areas.
The Slimdrive EMD-F
àis designed for use on re and smoke control doors. Permitted installation types:
àTransom installation opposite hinge side with link arm (1 leaf / 2 leaves)
àTransom installation hinge side with roller guide rail (1 leaf / 2 leaves)
àmay be used on emergency exits.
àmust not be used for potentially explosive areas.
Any improper use such as permanent manual operation, as well as any modication to the product, is not permit-
ted.
Observe the "GEZE Product information for door closers".
1.2 Safety instructions
àThe mandatory installation, maintenance and repair work must be performed by properly trained personnel
authorised by GEZE.
àThe country-specic laws and regulations are to be observed during safety-related tests.
àIf unauthorised changes are made to the system, GEZE cannot be held liable in any way whatsoever for any
resulting damage, and the approval for use in escape routes or emergency exists ceases.
àGEZE is not liable if products from other manufacturers are used with GEZE equipment.
àFurthermore, only original GEZE parts may be used for repair and maintenance work.
àThe connection to the power supply must be made by a professional electrician. Perform the power connec-
tion and equipment earth conductor test in accordance with VDE 0100 Part 610.
àUse a customer-accessible 10-A overload cut-out as the line-side disconnecting device.
àProtect the display programme switch against unauthorised access.
àIn compliance with Machine Directive 2006/42/EC, a risk analysis must be performed and the door system
identied in accordance with CE Identication Directive 93/68/EEC before the door system is commissioned.
àObserve the latest versions of guidelines, standards and country-specic regulations, in particular:
àASR A1.7 "Guidelines for doors and gates"
àDIN 18650 "Building hardware - Powered pedestrian doors"
àVDE 0100; Part 610 "Erection of low-voltage installations"
àAccident-prevention regulations, especially BGV A1 "General regulations" and BGV A2 "Electrical systems
and equipment"

tems and equipment"
1.3 Safety conscious working
àSecure workplace against unauthorised entry.
àWatch swivelling range of long system parts.
àNever carry out work with a high safety risk (e.g. installing the drive, cover or door leaf) while alone.
àSecure the hood/drive panels against falling.
àUse only cables prescribed in the cable plan provided. Lay shields in accordance with the wiring diagram.
àSecure loose, internal drive cables with cable ties.

Tools and aids
àBefore working on the electrical system:
àDisconnect the drive from the 230 V mains and check to ensure that it is not supplied with power.
àDisconnect the control unit from the 24 V battery.
àNote that if an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is used, the system will still be supplied with power
despite the fact that the power supply is disconnected.
àAlways use insulated wire-end ferrules for wire cores.
àAttach safety stickers to glass door leaves.
àDanger of injury with opened drive. Hair, clothing, cables, etc. can be drawn in by rotating parts!
àDanger of injury through unsecured crushing, impact, drawing-in or shearing spots!
àDanger of injury by broken glass!
àDanger of injury due to sharp edges in the drive!
àDanger of injury during installation through freely moving parts!
1.4 Inspection of the installed system
Measures for security and prevention of pinching, impact, shearing or drawing-in spots:
àCheck the functioning of safety sensors and movement detectors.
àCheck protective earth connection to all metal parts that can be touched.
àPerform a safety analysis (risk analysis).
1.5 Environmentally conscious working
àWhen disposing of the door system, separate the dierent materials and have them recycled.
àDo not dispose of batteries and storage cells with household waste.
àComply with the statutory regulations when disposing of the door system and the batteries/storage cells.

5.3 Types of installation, hinge action
àThe 2-leaf version corresponds to that of the 1-leaf installation type.
àThe opening angle of the door always has to be limited by a door stop.
àWe recommend the installation type link arms for the external doors.
àWind loads, negative pressure or excess pressure must be taken into account.
The Slimdrive EMD or EMD-F allows the following types of hinge action, each for doors DIN left and DIN right:

6 Installation
6.1 General installation information
àObserve all the instructions. Incorrect installation can result in serious injuries.
àThe specied ambient temperature range at the installation location of the drive must be observed.
àAfter completing installation, the settings and functionality of the drive have to be checked.
6.1.1 Preparations on site
Checking of the location conditions and the required space
àThe base construction must ensure safe attachment of the drive.
àThe bottom edge of the element mounted at the lowest point (roller guide rail or link arm) has to be mounted
at least 2 m above the oor.
XOnly use suitable means of fastening such as dowels, rivet nuts, etc.
XBefore mounting the drive check whether the door leaf is in a good mechanical state and can be opened and
closed easily.
XLay cables in accordance with the cable plan.
XCheck the planned type of hinge action on the leaf or frame prole (see Section 5.3).
6.1.2 Position the tting template
The top of the door must be aligned exactly horizontally, both in the closed and in the open position.
XUse the correct tting template in accordance
with the installation type (Section 5.3).
XTake the type of attachment into account (direct
fastening or with mounting plate (Section 5.3)).
XAlign the tting template parallel to the top of
the door.
XAx the template with adhesive tape in ac-
cordance with the specied installation type.
Heed the door and hinge action sketches on the
template.

XIn the case of doors not closing smoothly separate or fold the template along the perforation.

The drives Slimdrive EMD and Slimdrive EMD-F for double-leaf doors are equipped with an electronic closing
sequence control. However, only the Slimdrive EMD-F with mechanical closing sequence control is permitted for
use on re proof doors in compliance with EN 1158.

6.3 Installing the drive
During drive installation, ensure that the connection cables are not pinched.
XPull the hood o.
XIf necessary, screw the mounting plate on.
XAlign the drive (see drawings in section 6.2).
XUse the M5 screws or the chipboard screws provided to screw the drive in place.
6.4 Mounting the door stop
XOpen and close the door by hand to check the space
required.
XDuring door leaf installation, watch out for the pinch and
shearing points of the door edges when laying the cables.
XMount a stop (1) or an integrated opening restrictor (only
for roller guide rail). 

6.5 Mounting the roller guide rail
XSlide the lling pieces (2) into the roller guide rail (1) and
screw in place at the marked spot.
XEnsure that the seating and alignment of the roller guide
rail are correct.
 
6.6 Mounting the spindle covers
6.6.1 Spindle covers up to date of manufacture 2013
The spindle covers (1) and (2) have dierent lengths
of connecting link arm (3).
 



XBreak out cover (4) for the drive axle.


XAttach the spindle covers (1) and (2) to the drive.


6.6.2 Spindle covers from date of manufacture 2013
There is only a minimum dierence between the two spindle covers. There is a symbol for an oblong hole on the
back of the left-hand spindle cover, which is on the gear as well (see arrows).
XDuring installation, make sure that the spindle covers are installed on the right side.
XFit the left and right spindle covers as shown in the diagram below.
