2. Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the Goldanalytix GoldScreenCard. The Goldanalytix
GoldScreenCard is an easy, fast to use and non-destructive testing device for the determination of
the electrical conductance of precious metal mouldings. Primarily this device was developed to
test the authenticity of precious metal coins without a blister or a capsule, but with restrictions
you can use it also for the determination of small ingots made from silver, platinum or palladium.
The Goldanalytix GoldScreenCard software as an intuitive analysis tool allows to reliably display
and classify the results. The measured values can be compared to value ranges shown in the
graphical display of the software, which are deposited in the library. This allows a fast and
unequivocal statement within seconds without any need of interpreting the results.
Please read these operating instructions carefully prior to the first use in order to use the
GoldScreenCard properly.

3. Scope of Supply
Your GoldScreenCard set is delivered with the following elements:

4. Measurement Principle
The GoldScreenPen utilises the electrical conductance of metals for its measurement principle.
Every metal exhibits a characteristic conductance value, which enables the identification of
falsifications. Due to similar densities, the most used metals for falsifications like tungsten, lead or
tantalum usually differ significantly in their conductivity compared to precious metals or gold
alloys.
The patented, inductive testing method uses low-frequency, electromagnetic alternating fields,
whose penetration depth depends on the applied frequency and the electrical conductance of the
testing sample. The frequency of the GoldScreenPen was adjusted in a manner, that all kinds of
coins are pervaded. Devices currently available exhibit low penetration depths allowing the
determination of layers near to the surface only. Cores of tungsten or tantalum covered with thick,
galvanically plated metal layers can not be identified reliably with those devices.
The sensor technology as well as the evaluation unit is situated inside the compact casing of the
device. The GoldScreenCard can be connected to a computer via the integrated USB cable. The
signals can be evaluated and compared to reference values of the library included in the software
„Goldanalytix_SW“ which is purchased on the USB flash drive. Depending on the weight of the

coin (e.g. Krugerrand 1 oz vs. ½ oz) different values can arise, although having the same
conductance, due to the high penetration depth of the GoldScreenCard. That´s why the software
differentiates between single coin types.
5. Safety Instructions for optimal Measurement Conditions
The highly sensitive sensor technology and the evaluation unit are stored in the housing of the
GoldScreenCard. Therefore, please be aware of the following hints while performing
measurements:
Please ensure that the GoldScreenCard does not touch any metallic object or lies on a
metallic surface during the measurement because this might lead to inaccuracies of the
measurement.
Do not use the testing device in the presence of explosive gases, vapours or dust or in wet
environment.
Please operate the device at room temperature and not in proximity of heat sources (e.g.
fan output of your laptop). The measured values are temperature dependant and
linearised by best fit algorithms, but the best accuracy is achieved at room temperature.
Please ascertain that the GoldScreenCard as well as the coins feature the same
temperature, because big temperature difference affects the sensor technology in a
negative manner. The temperature dependency is particularly pronounced among silver
coins

6. Operation and Display Elements
The operation elements of the GoldScreenCard are displayed in Figure 1 and Table 1. The
GoldScreenCard is ready to use after connecting it to a computer via the integrated USB cable and
starting the Goldanalytix software.

7. Installation of the Goldanalytix Software
Before you are able to use the GoldScreenCard you have to install the Goldanalytix software via
the purchased USB flash drive as well as the driver.
Therefore, please connect the USB flash drive with your computer and start the installation
process by double-click on the install file „Goldanalytix_Install_Win7.8“ or
„Goldanalytix_Install_Win10“. The install assistant leads you through the setup.
Please note: The install package consists oft wo parts. After having installed the software the
driver will automatically be installed. The driver is necessary for the proper function of the device.
The driver will be installed according to your operating system (Win 7, 8, 10).
Please confirm the following windows for the standard install package. The program usually is
installed in the Windows program folder. If you wish another folder we recommend to change the
directory manually. Afterwards, the install process of the driver will start automatically (CP210x
USB to UART Bridge).

After installation you will the software in the start menu: [Start]\Programs\Goldanalytix_SW as
well as on the desktop (as icon, when you did not deselect this option during the installation
process). The software will automatically start after installation. In case of the GoldScreenCard is
not being recognized, please exit and restart the software.

8. Description of the Goldanalytix Software
Please be aware that you can use the GoldScreenCard in its full range of functions only with the
purchased Goldanalytix software. Operating without the program package is not possible. On the
one hand, the software graphically displays the measured values in a diagram, on the other hand,
it offers access to the library containing conductance values. On the basis of deposited reference
values of the library one can check the authenticity of the test specimen.
After starting the software and successful connection of the GoldScreenCard with your computer
the software interface will appear showing the status report "Device Connected" (②,see Figure
4).

Starting the GoldScreenCard
The device turns on as soon as you connect it to your computer via the USB port. By disconnecting
the GoldScreenCard it turns off.
Calibration of the GoldScreenCard
We recommend to calibrate the device in the beginning of each test series. By clicking on DEVICE
-> Calibration you will reach the mode „Kalibrierung“. Thereby, a message box appears asking you
to push the "Test" button on the GoldScreenCard until the calibration process is finished. This
process will last only a few seconds. The given sensor value should be in the range of about zero.
In case of the given value is <20, please repeat the calibration process. When the GoldScreenCard
is placed nearby a laptop or a magnetic balance, please do not move it after calibrating.
Measuring with the GoldScreenCard
When you successfully connected and calibrated the device you can the GoldScreenCard in its full
range of functions. In the beginning of each measurement please select the desired metal and the
respective coin by double-click on the library (③, Figure 5). In the status report (④, Figure 6) you
will get further information of the respective coin, i.e. diameter, thickness, weight and alloy. In the
diagram (⑥) an additional green-shaded range appears illustrating the reference range of the
respective coin graphically. Now you can place your coin on the detection area of the
GoldScreenCard.

By touching the "TEST" button of the GoldScreenCard measurements are performed in short time
lags (ca. 0.5 seconds each). The corresponding value immediately appears in the diagram as a
pursuing blue line (⑥, Figure 7) as well as numerical value in the information bar „Messwert“
(⑤, Figure 7). The measured values are compared to the values of the library. The status bar (②,
Figure 7) gives a report about the authenticity of the coin: In case of a genuine coin „Signal inside
range“is given, while „Signal outside range“ appears when it is a falsification (the conductance of
foreign metals partly differs a lot). You can terminate the measurement at any time by release of
the "TEST" button.

The result of the measurement can be saved as image file (bmp, emf, gif, jpeg, png, tif) by clicking
on FILE -> Save Screenshot.
Interpreting the results
The GoldScreenCard utilises the electrical conductance of the test specimen as physical
measurand.
Geometrical properties of the specimen also play a decisive role because the air gap in between
the sensor area and the coin´s surface (due to the embossing) contributes significantly to the
measurement result. Due to an air gap does not conduct electricity the result is different
compared to a filled and plane surface, respectively. Therefore, the Goldanalytix Software does
not even display the electrical conductance in qΩcm, but a value that arises from the embossing
and the geometry of the coin, and the conductance thereof. This provides an additional security
due to the embossing was included in the values range as further safety feature.
The vertical axis exhibits a values range of approximately 0-1000. The scaling was chosen in that
manner that a silver coin with normal embossing shows a value of ca. 1000. Silver features the
best conductance of all metals (ca. 61 qΩcm), i.e. the value for this coin is the highest value. In
analogy to the conductance the reference values of known alloys can be estimated as well. The
worse the conductance of a coin, the lower (with identical geometry) is the signal. Small coins,
which do not completely cover the detection area (small circle) or which are thinner than the

penetration depth of the eddy current field (with gold ca. 2.3 mm) show considerably lower
values. Comparatively, those small coins act similar to 1 oz coins.
Due to the high permeability of ferromagnetic substances like iron/steel or nickel a negative value
will be given. Consequently, magnetic substances can be identified at first glance.
Figure 8 represents an overview of values ranges of 1 oz coins. Due to the significant worse
conductance of tungsten compared to pure gold, gold plated falsifications with a core made from
tungsten feature significantly lower values. Please be aware that those coins (tungsten core plated
with gold) show higher values than gold alloys, e.g. Krugerrand.

As already described in the sub-chapter 'Measuring with the GoldScreenCard' the diagram does
not only show a value line as reference value for a certain coin but a green-shaded values range.
The width of this „cloud“ was chosen in the manner that small variances (e.g. coin is not deposited
in the middle of the detection area) or little deviations of the geometry of the specimen (edges of
the coins can be worn out by usage) during the measurment are also included in the values range.
A value which is not exactly in the middle of this cloud is no reason to be worried about. When the
value lies out of the cloud and the status report „Signal outside range“ appears the conductance
does not fit with the selected coin and you might have a falsification.

Please note: In general, you also can measure coins in blister or capsules. However, the signal
decreases due to the larger distance in between the coin and the detection area. Therefore, the
deposited reference values of the library cannot be applied in this case. The difference with and
without a plastic sleeve might be considerable. Nevertheless, you can compile a list in the library
with your own reference values of those coins in plastic sleeves. In the following you can assign an
object of comparison with the same jacket.
Edit your own user library
Having the user library in hand gives you the opportunity to deposit values of coins which are not
included in the standard Goldanalytix library. Thereby, you can contrast two identical coins and
compare new coins, respectively.
You can easily add you own coins. For this purpose a window appears after clicking on LIBRARY ->
Add User-Lib value…which asks you to push the "TEST" button for few seconds. The desired coin
has to be on the detection area as usual. After finishing the measurement an info panel appears
which can be filled in with parameters and properties of the desired coin in analogy to the
Goldanalytix library. We recommend to do so in order to get the same file structure for a better
overview. The new value is stored automatically in the user library and can be selected through
LIBRARY -> User-Lib. By using LIBRARY -> Delete Single Value User-Lib one can delete single values
from the user library.

9. Overview of Conductance Values
We would like to point out that the GoldScreenCard is specifically designed for measuring
conductance of in the library deposited coins (alloy, thickness, embossing), which can be extended
by the user through deposition of own values. The purpose of the following table is to serve as
reference value for the classification of common coin metals.

WARRANTY AND LIABILITY LIMITATIONS
Goldanalytix warrants that every Goldanalytix product under normal use and service free from defects in material and production.
The warranty period is one year from the date of dispatch. The warranty period for parts, product repairs and service is 90 days. This
warranty is only granted to the first purchaser or respectively the end consumer, who bought this product from a point of sale
authorised by Goldanalytix, and it does not cover the securing of loads, disposable batteries or other products which in the judgment
of Goldanalytix has been used incorrectly, altered, contaminated, neglected, damaged by accidents or subjected to abnormal
operating conditions or incorrect handling. Points of sale approved by Goldanalytix will only grant this warranty exclusively for new
and unused products sold to end consumers. However, the points of sales are not authorised to prolong, extend or in any other way
alter this warranty on behalf of Goldanalytix.
The purchaser is entitled to support services derived from the warranty only if he bought the product at a point of sale authorised by
Goldanalytix or paid the price respectively internationally applicable. Goldanalytix reserves the right to invoice import fees for spare
and replacement parts to the buyer if he offers repair of the product in another country than the country where he had originally
bought the product. The warranty obligation of Goldanalytix is limited to Goldanalytix’ sole discretion to refund the purchase price
or to repair or replace the defective product free of charge if this product is handed over for repair to a service centre authorized by
Goldanalytix within the warranty period. In order to make use of the warranty service, please turn to the nearest service centre
authorised by Goldanalytix to receive information about the taking back of the product, and you may then send the product with a
description of the problem upon a pre-payment of shipping and insurance costs (FOB point of destination) to the nearest service
centre authorised by Goldanalytix. Goldanalytix assumes no liability for transport damages. Following the repair, the product is sent
back to the buyer upon the pre-payment of shipping costs (FOB point of destination).
However, where Goldanalytix finds that the damage was caused by neglect, incorrect handling, contamination, modification to the
device, an accident or abnormal operating conditions, including overvoltage faults which have been caused outside of the capacity
specified for this product, Goldanalytix will send an estimate of the repair costs to the buyer and will first obtain the buyer’s consent
before beginning the repair works. After the repair, the product will be sent back to the payer against advance payment of the
shipping costs in, and the buyer will be charged with the costs of repair and shipping (FOB point of destination).
THE WARRANTY PROVISIONS ABOVE REPRESENT THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE LEGAL TITLE TO COMPENSATION FOR THE BUYER AND
APPLY EXCLUSIVELY AND IN PLACE OF ALL OTHER CONTRACTUAL OR LEGAL WARRANTY OBLIGATIONS, INCLUDING –BUT NOT
LIMITED TO –THE LEGAL WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR PURPOSE OR SERVICEABILITY FOR A SPECIFIC USE.
GOLDANALYTIX IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL OR CONSQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR LOSSES,
INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, REGARDLESS OF ANY CAUSE OR THEORY. NO LIABILITY FOR FINANCIAL LOSS IS ACCEPTED.
Considering that in some countries it is not permissible to limit a legal obligation as well as to exclude or limit incidental or
consequential damages, it may be that the limits and exclusions cited above, do not apply to every buyer. Should one provision of
this warranty be deemed ineffective or unenforceable by a competent court or another decision making body, the validity or
