The Rail Switch SPIDER 5TX has been
especially designed for se in ind strial
environments. It s pports ETHERNET
10 MBit/s and Fast ETHERNET 100 MBit/s.
The devices s pport switched ETHERNET
networks in accordance with IEEE standard
802.3 or 802.3 sing copper technology.
The devices are pl gged onto the standard
bar.
The devices have five 10/100 MBit/s twisted
pair ports (RJ45 connectors).
It is possible to connect p to five data
terminal eq ipments or other network
segments to the 10/100 Mbit/s ports sing
twisted pair cabling. The ports s pport
a tonegotiation, a topolarity and
a tocrossing.

Safety Guidelines
Power Supply
䡺Switch the basic devices on only when
the case is closed.
zWarning!
The devices may only be connected
to the s pply voltage shown on the
type plate.
The devices are designed for opera-
tion with a safety extra-low voltage.
Th s, they may only be connected
to the s pply voltage connections
with PELV circ its or alternatively
SELV circ its with the voltage
restrictions in accordance with
IEC/EN 60950.
䡺For the case where the mod le is opera-
ted with external power s pply: Use only a
safety extra-low voltage in accordance with
IEC 950/EN 60 950/VDE 0805 to power the
system.
䡺First of all yo connect the protecting
line, before yo establish the f rther
connections. When yo remove connec-
tions, yo disconnect the protecting line
last.
䡺Relevant for North America:
The s bject nit is to be s ppplied by a
Class 2 power so rce complying with the
req irements of the National Electrical
Code, table 11(b). If power is red ndant
s pplied (two individ al power so rces) the
power so rces together sho ld comply with
the req irements of the National Electrical
Code, table 11 (b).

installed in residential or b siness premises
the device may only be operated in fire-
proof cabinets.

ference when the eq ipment is operated in

1. Functional description
The 10/100BASE-T(X) ports of an SPIDER
5TX represent a terminal connection for the
connected LAN segment. Yo can connect
single devices or complete network
segments.
1.1 FRAME SWITCHING FUNCTIONS
Store and Forward
All data received by the SPIDER 5TX from
the system b s or at the ports are stored
and checked for validity. Invalid and defec-
tive frames (> 1.522 byte or CRC error) as
well as fragments (< 64 byte) are discarded.
The SPIDER 5TX forwards the valid frames.
Multi address capability
An SPIDER 5TX learns all so rce addresses
per port. Only packets with
– nknown addresses
– addresses learnt at this port
– a m lti/broadcast address
in the destination address field are sent to
this port.
An SPIDER 5TX learns p to 1,000 addres-
ses. This becomes necessary if more than
one terminal device is connected to one or
more ports. In this way several independent
s bnetworks can be connected to an
SPIDER 5TX.
Learnt addresses
An SPIDER 5TX monitors the age of the
learned addresses. The SPIDER 5TX deletes
address entries from the address table
which exceed a certain age (300 seconds).
Note: Restarting deletes the learned
address entries.
Tagging (IEEE 802.1Q)
The IEEE 802.1 Q standard designates the
VLAN tag to be incl ded in a MAC data
frame for the VLAN and prioritizing f nc-
tions. The VLAN tag consists of 4 bytes (2
bytes tag protocol identifier TPID, 2 bytes
tag control information TCI). It is inserted
between the so rce address field and the
type field. Data packets with VLAN tag are
transmitted nchanged by the SPIDER 5TX.
1.2 SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS OF THE
TP/TX INTERFACE
Link control
The SPIDER 5TX monitors the connected TP
line segments for short-circ it or interr pt
sing reg lar link test p lses in accordance
with IEEE standard 802.3 10BASE-T/-
100BASETX. The SPIDER 5TX does not
transmit any data to a TP segment from
which it does not receive a link test p lse.
Note: A non-occ pied interface is assessed
as a line interr pt. The TP line to terminal
eq ipment which is switched off is likewise
assessed as a line interr pt as the de-
energised b s co pler cannot transmit link
test p lses.
Auto polarity exchange
If the receive line pair is incorrectly connec-
ted (RD+ and RD- switched) polarity is a to-
matically reversed.
Autonegotiation
A tonegotiation is a proced re in which the
switch a tomatically selects the operating
mode of its 10/100 RJ-45 ports. When a
connection is set p for the first time, the
switch detects the speed (10 or 100 Mbit/s)
and the transmission mode of the connec-
ted network (half d plex or f ll d plex).
Autocrossing
The SPIDER 5TX detects the transmit and
receive pairs (MDI, MDI-X). The SPIDER 5TX
a tomatically config res its port for the cor-
rect transmit and receive pins. Conseq ent-
ly it does not matter whether yo connect
devices sing a cross-over or straight cable.

1.5 INTERFACES
10/100 MBit/s connection
Five 10/100 Mbit/s Ports (ports 1 to port 5, 8-
pin R45 sockets) on SPIDER 5TX allow ter-
minal eq ipment or five independent net-
work segments complying with the stan-
dards IEEE 802.3 100BASE-TX / 10BASE-T to
be connected. These ports s pport a tone-
gotiation and the a topolarity f nction.
The pin config ration complies with MDI-X.
– Pin configuration of the RJ45 socket:
– 1 line pair: pin 3 and pin 6
– 1 line pair: pin 1 and pin 2
– remaining pins: not sed.

2. Configuration
2.1 CONNECTING DTE AND OTHER
NETWORK SEGMENTS
It is possible to connect p to five data ter-
minal eq ipments (DTE) or other network
segments to the 10/100 Mbit/s ports of the
SPIDER 5TX sing twisted pair cabling (ref.
Fig. 4).
3. Assembly, startup procedure
and dismantling
3.1 UNPACKING, CHECKING
䡺Check whether the package was deliver-
ed complete (see scope of delivery).
䡺Check the individ al parts for transport
damage.

3.2 ASSEMBLY
The eq ipment is delivered in a ready-to-
operate condition. The following proced re
is appropriate for assembly:
䡺P ll the terminal block off the SPIDER
5TX and wire p the s pply voltage lines.
䡺Fit the SPIDER 5TX on a 35 mm stan-
dard bar to DIN EN 50 022.
䡺Attach the pper snap-on slide bar of
the SPIDER 5TX to the standard bar and
press it down ntil it locks in position.
䡺Fit the signal lines.

– The SPIDER 5TX is gro nded via a pin of
the terminal block.
– Do not open the ho sing.

3.3 STARTUP PROCEDURE

3.4 DISMANTLING
䡺To take the SPIDER 5TX off the ISO/DIN
rail, nlock the snap-in mechanism accor-
ding to Fig 7.
